My pedal chain is
tuner > small clone > ds2 > big muff > digitech multieffect used for reverb > EQ pedal

is the best option to daisy chain everything but the Digitech or should I buy a ton of batteries before my first gig?

I'm getting an isolated DC brick soon but I don't even have a board yet. gotta get my shit together before we start gigging next month.
>>
>>60856236
it's a great guitar, probably the most recommended ever. I would try to get a taylor gs mini or a big baby but that's just me. the Seagull is a much better guitar than those low end taylors.
>>
>>60856302
I'd recommend having the EQ before the small clone. With the power situation, I'd say try a daisy chain and see if you get an excessive amount of hum. If not, you should be able to get away with it till you get a brick. Batteries are expensive and die quick.

Honestly if it had a natural look and a symmetrical headstock it could be pretty cool.
pic semi related, Fredrik Thordendal's fretless 8 string.
>>
>Gear
Pic-related, I have a couple acoustics that I keep at my family's house so I have something to do when I visit and a modified Squier 51 that I want to turn into a fretless but my main guitars are my MIM Strat and Squier VM Jazzmaster. Amp is an Egnater Rebel 20 with Fender Super Champ 80 watt cab. Pedals are Morley Bad Horsie wah, EHX Soul Food with JHS mod, and EHX Memory Man with Hazarai.

>Desired Gear
Fretless Jazz Bass, a nicer keyboard with weighted keys. I'm pretty happy with my current set-up, though.

>Fav. Guitars
Strats, Jazzmasters, some archtops, kind of coming around to Teles.

>Fav. Guitarists
Hendrix, Shawn Lane, Guthrie Govan, Nels Cline, Frank Zappa, Pat Martino

>Projects
I'm about to head over to band practice. I recently joined a prog rock group on lead guitar so we're working on getting me up to speed on the band's current repertoire and writing new material. Also working on my sight reading by using jazz charts.

I also want to do this thing where I get a pool of musicians to play one-off gigs around my city, where we learn a few improv-centric tunes and then perform under a new band name each time with new musicians and new tunes.

>Talk About and Play Music
What guitarists got /gg/ into guitar in the first place, or even into specific musical styles? I started playing after listening to Van Halen and Green Day; Randy Rhoads got me into classical guitar, and Pat Martino made me want to study jazz. These days I mostly listen to jazz or fusion guys and use ideas from their music to furnish my lead work.
>>
>>60856537
>What guitarists got /gg/ into guitar in the first place, or even into specific musical styles?
Buckethead got me into guitar in general, Kirk Hammett got me into wanting to take it seriously, John Petrucci and Paul Waggoner got me into the progressive metal side that I'm playing, and Tosin Abasi got me into extended range.
>>
>>60856401
why would you suggest the EQ before the small clone? I had it at the end because the multipedal puts out an obnoxiously shrill amount of treble, even with the treble on my amp is at 1 or 2.

Nice, Paul Waggoner definitely got me into prog. metal too (him and AJ Minette from THA, I always found Dream Theater to be a little too try-hard) and I ws blown away the summer AAL's debut came out. I don't do extended range stuff though, at least not yet.

I've always been interested in extended range, but when I heard Animals I knew it was something I had to get into. Pic related.
>>
>What guitarists got /gg/ into guitar in the first place, or even into specific musical styles?

originally, Kurt Cobain when I was 10.

J Mascis inspired me to learn lead guitar.

Nick Drake inspires me to buy a nice acoustic and really dedicate myself to Travis picking.

>>60857020
THA is cool, the guitar work is more classically-oriented than AAL. They've put out two amazing albums. Too bad they're inconsistent with touring/recording.

I was excited by the extended range stuff for a while but all the djent stuff that came after AAL's debut just never sounded as good. There was a band called Rooks from Chicago that were among the earliest pioneers of djent in the Midwest (my old band used to do shows with them) and used Agile 7-strings. Then Periphery came along and made djent poppy and more digestible for a larger audience, then AAL came along and took the music as far as it could go from a technical level. Within the space of about three years djent had come and gone for me.

I've seen your posts on here before, though. Nice guitar, really.
>>
>>60857181
Djent's not really my thing either. (Though you wouldn't know it by looking.)

I got really into bass a couple years ago, but I had kinda already put all my eggs into the basket of being a guitarist. Having 10 strings kinda lets me be both, which I like.

I think I might get around to building a 12-string after I finish refinishing my Jazzy. How does this sound? I Squier Jazzmaster Special JM body, one of the older butterscotch alder ones, Warmoth 12-string hockey-stick headstock (not sure yet if I want plain dots or bound and blocked,) Danelectro 12-string bridge, just because I did play the newish semi-hollow 12's they have, and it brings surprisingly good intonation. I'll probably fill the hole for the strat input jack, I cannot deal with that thing, along with getting a custom pickguard routed for some old Electric XII p/u's

my man, he and Jack White made me by a guitar when I was about 11 but I never stuck at it.

Still, just get an SD-1 and a preferred distortion pedal and you're set for anything. A properly set overdrive and maybe a clean boost is enough to make single coils sound similar to HBs

ha, uruguay here
check if you can get an old series Marshall MG15R, those were alright for the quality and features. Or you could maybe get a Laney. Another option is getting a really cheap amp that has decent cleans and then get a multi fx, one of my buddies had a pack with a memphis strat copy and a roxy amp and it sounded alright for practice. Then he bought a behringer X V-Amp. Once we had a band, the singer bought a Laney LX35R and he would let this guy use it, we used it for gigs and all.

>>

I use it often. It's a one trick pony but it does the trick very very well. Good for layering backgrounds and stuff. I'll play a chord, freeze it, add a light chorus and then loop it. Play over it for days.

Play a lot and try to talk/have a conversation while playing until you become a spoken word master.
If you're alone and don't have anyone to talk to while playing (like me) then you just have to practice till you get it right, song by song, there's no trick to it.

What's your opinion on the Taylor GA vs. GS debate?

I'm considering the Taylor 21Xce-K DLX (with the X being either 4 or 6) and since I'm a lefty, I can't actually try them out.

I play a decent range of styles, and I've heard that you get versatility from the GA, but that the GS is much richer when it comes to overall sound.

Anyone have any tips for painting guitars?

Me and my dad are trying to turn a shitty Ion Strat clone into a playable guitar. I'm not too knowledgeable with the technical aspects, but from what he's told me, it's a decent clone, and it has a lot of potential. Maple body, neck is straight and everything is in order. He still has the pickups from his old Highway One strat, as well as the tuners and bridge. Thing is absolutely caked in lacquer, so we're going to deal with that tomorrow. Really excited about this, I've been playing an Epiphone G400 custom for a year now, and it really isn't for me.

After that, we're going to be painting it. I'm leaning towards either a vintage blonde, or a lighter surf green. Anything I need to look out for when buying paint or painting it?
>>
>>60862570
Least valid complaint against a cheap mandolin I can think of. It's a short scale instrument, even 10 dollar ukuleles can hold their tune. A mandolin isn't much worse, and I haven't had any problems with my SX guitar's tuners.

Hey man, over here the most I'd pay for an AxeFX II is $2500 (AUD), but it'd have to be practically mint. That's about $1800 USD for comparison.

The foot controller is $1000 here, so I'm going to be inclined to say no. You can do simple switching with the pedal input on the back anyway, and any quick changes using AxeEdit over USB.

Anything more complex than that and you might want to think about it. The MFC controller is a killer piece of equipment. Just depends on if you can accomplish your needs with a single pedal in, or even just a basic MIDI controller.

I've been meaning to setup MIDI passthrough from my LX49 to the AxeFX to see if I can set up loop and what not on that for laughs.

First theory lesson for bass is FOLLOW THE FUCKING SNARE DRUM. The worst thing you can be as a bassist is off time. The drummer keeps the time in the band, and he usually does that on the snare. So when in doubt, follow the snare drum.
Second theory lesson for bass is FOLLOW THE FUCKING MELODY. Do it in time, of course (see Rule #1), but do it all the same. In any song, the melody is God. Obey the melody, and your playing WILL fit the song.
>>
>>60864831
The CC is real analog bucket brigade. The DD7 can't even compare to that. And if you think a Mistress, even a 70s original, can trump the flare of an original CE2...I just, I..no.

>>60866850
I prefer digital delay but when I had a CC, the DD7 sounded better in analog mode to me. Also an Electric Mistress is better, the CE-2 isn't a godly chorus, it's not even the best boss chorus. If we were debating an EM with a CE-1, I'd go with the CE-1, but not a CE-2

EB-0 is a niche instrument. It works well for some things but not for others.

That's not what you want in a first bass.
For this reason, I'd recommend a Fender bass model, either a Precision or a Jazz bass.
But models work very well in any setting and any genre, are available at any price point from beginner grade to fully handmade customs, and can be bought literally anywhere in the world from any one of hundreds of brands.

If I had to choose between them, I'd pick the Precision, but that's just my preference based on how it sounds in a band setting. Others prefer the sound and thinner neck of the Jazz bass, and you really can't go wrong with either.

If you're using an external power amp and sending it to a cabinet, basically none. You can load an amp block and start playing and it should sound pretty good. If you're going direct? There can be a bit more fiddling involved, but still not a ton.

You should be able to get a great tone just off the amp block, all the parameters behind it are more for really fine tweaking. It'll take you around six-twelve months to get a real strong understanding of the unit though.

Here's a clean clip I did awhile ago, just keep in mind these are after my accident, so my playing is a bit wonky.

I'm using a 1/4" instrument cable to the iRig 2 adapter, to my phone, and back out the adapter through another 1/4" to a direct box running an XLR-to-1/8" cable to the Line In on my PC.

Probably some ass backwards way of doing things, but I'm not really good at the whole cabling and audio setup thing.

I did figure out a lot of the noise in my signal was because I was a dumbass and didn't have the ground lift of my direct box turned on, though.

In that case you could get a Fender MIM, or if you don't mind going almost 20 years back, something like this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Epiphone-By-Gibson-Les-Paul-Custom-Pro-1996-Ebony-/181812982721?hash=item2a54e5f3c1:g:tCcAAOSw9N1VsuvD
I'd totally get that one, provided I could try it. And I'm not even a Les Paul guy.

EM is way more interesting than a standard chorus since it adds just a slight flange without going into overbearing trippy sounds if done right, a CE-2 is a boring 80s hair band in a box chorus that, while doing that really well, being boring. The CE-1 is cool though its got a much more natural sound and alot more subtle
Btw, I haven't heard a real CE-1 in person, only clones of it. But I've heard a real CE-2 in person, wasn't that interesting and the guy who had it replaced it too. Also had a EM clone, still blew away the CE-2 I heard and the EM clone wasn't even going through a rig as nice as the one the CE-2 went through

There are some pedalboard friendly clones out there that get pretty close to where I'd say they're a better live usage option, albeit a bit pricey as they tend to go into boutique prices

Prog rock. Tonight we worked on incorporating a keyboard part into this 5/4 Latin groove song. It's coming together.

I'm not a huge fan of on-board effects myself, I much prefer pedals. But Egnater's "lunchbox" amps are definitely versatile. I love the tube blending knob on the Rebel 20.

Picking up a Blues Junior tomorrow. More of a Twin person myself, but the Blues isn't costing me anything. I'm pretty excited.

its a decent little amp. I got a Hot Rod deluxe instead because of the wattage, but I still really like the Blues Junior

It's being lent to me for a few months. I've never owned an amplifier that really shines with cleans. I've always emulated my cleans off the AxeFX.

Should be good fun, although I'm not much of an EL84 person.

Know if it has an effects loop? I'm getting the feeling it won't.

it doesn't, but it still takes pedals really well. I wanted more than a 40W because I use it to play live, and I've got a 4X12 Blue voodoo cab I plan on running it through with another group.

the hot rod does have an effects loop though.

I haven't seen a cover thread in a while. I wanted to start one but I don't have one of those lists with artist names on them

Yeah my clean tone live is the AxeFX out to the DSL or 6505, so volume as never been a problem.

>it doesn't, but it still takes pedals really well.
I don't tend to use pedals, I was hoping to throw my rack in the loop so I could use my crazy delays, but I'll guess I'll have to load them at the front.

Doesn't belong to me, so modding is out of the picture unfortunately. I mainly plan to use it to dial in my AxeFX better.
