Tell me about it. It's like they don't want me to contribute to their site. What the hell? I have a bunch of cover arts that I want to upload to fix all the blank spaces in my collages but Last.fm doesn't fucking let me for whatever reason. Nice update and everything, too bad we still don't have a functional site after like 4 months.

I forgot how good this stuff is, this is some truly creative stuff and holy shit these lyrics, what is going on on these lyrics, the insane but still almost completely intelligible vocals just help this further

it starts to drag on but still highly fugging reccd for any newbies to the genre

DEATH, PAIN, DITSY CUT STAIN

That's still a snare drum, just with the actual snare (the metal part underneath) removed. Otherwise all of the percussion uses kick-snare patterns. That sound is really annoying, but props to grind/crust/pviolence guys for creating a somewhat new drum sound.

but the beatdown stuff has definitely taken a foothold as the new trendy thing in hardcore, Code Orange jumped on the bandwagon and now you have every hardcore band suddenly turning into Xibalba/Harms Way/Nails worship

which is nice, but you get my point, it's definitely become a trend

Not quite. It's accessible because it's easily digestible despite having long-form songs made up of disparate parts. People who listen to enough metal and/or prog realize that it ends up being a rather ineffective amalgamation of both. But I guess plebs lap it up because it makes them feel smart.

It's a matter of songwriting. One of the reasons why I don't like Opeth is because the acoustic sections are obviously shoehorned in as opposed to being well integrated into the song. For an example of a good acoustic section, this Lengsel song is a great example of usage of acoustic guitars in metal.

The other song was Lengsel's Avmakt which is basically black metal, but it has nice riffing and the acoustic bits in it are extremely tasteful.

RNG, or Peachy, why is Opeth considered "vapid" prog? Why the hate? Their earlier stuff is pretty good, Imo. Mikael Akerfeldt's voice has a solid and distinct aesthetic, there is plenty of moments where the guitar work resonants with me (and plenty that don't, mind you), the bass work has occasionally cool ideas.

I get that calling it 'teh bes prug' is pretentious and all, but everything before Ghost Reveries is by no means shit...?
