I'm almost glad AnCo aren't getting too hyped, it's how they started getting hate before, too many people hyped their albums so people got overexposed and then they weren't as good as the hype. This way people can be eased into how brilliant AnCo are.
I'm hoping it's a phase.
I hope this isn't too "anco by numbers", I hope they properly expand their sound. I'm just nervous this will be shit, bands "going back to their roots" is rarely good.

I have no idea where you guys are getting this sung tongs/sj "back to there roots" thing from, the snippets I heard sound exactly like Hz 2.0, down to the drums and aveys vocal delivery. Anco has no patience or exploration in there songs anymore, there so focused on making a concise tune then throwing shit on top of it to make it "interesting". Which is another thing, the actual sounds there using arent doing for me anymore, they need a new palette. It feels like there painting a similar picture with the same 3 colors on every song recently.

they all have their flaws but i think is just because they have been really changing their sound from what they were in the 00's, and im ok with that. each of those albums have tracks i dig and i aint no rockist so im not mad at the ones i dont like.
i think people are just too used to AnCo being kind of flawless, because, imo, everything from STGSTV too MPP is perfect in their own ways.

All the songs are static, they dont go anywhere or progessively change at all. Im all for repetition but theres a right and wrong way to do it. Each song had like 1 or 2 ideas that were repeated for 4-6 minutes. But Mr noah and ToC were pretty good Ill give you that, I actually enjoyed the Noah ep a lot.

what you said can be done to any of their releases except their really early one (STGSTV, danse, HCTI, campfire and sung tongs).
you can say strawberry jam takes some of the abrassiveness of the early album and mash it up with the most pop stuff on feels.
MPP takes the pop sensibilites from STGSTV and SJ and combine it with the sampling of person pitch, and so on.

That's true, but CHz frlt more derived and influenced by MPP than some of their past albums have been, just in terms of pure sound design, but truly CHz seems like SJ 2.0 to me. Speaking not only of structure, the more rock oriented style writing but adding electronics, but it also has that same sickly sweet non-organic quality that SJ had - theres a certain plasticity to the sounds that they did move away from on MPP.

CHz was definitely more dense and SJ more minimal, but I still those eras are reminiscent of each other - both are far less pastoral than their other work. Ono even a track like Cobwebs has strong similarities (and Crimson feels very related to the Water Curses EP as well) and that's why it fit so seemlessly into the CHz tour, even the track Water Curses had that really woozy and psychedelic and colorful pop feel that was a bit more alien than the pop on MPP and that extended to Hz.

I think Avey has said that the more they perform songs live, the more objectivity they lose. They just whittle them down too much, overthink it. Josh has also said they spend an inordinate of time in the mixing process.
I've been a cynical bastard in this thread about the new album, but one thing that give me hope is that not performing these songs live for two years first will keep the "raw form" in tact, so to speak. It could have a real positive effect and has me really curious, as they never change their process.

I don't know man, Panda Bear Meets the Grim Reaper was just a damn good album in my book, and the perfect true followup to Merriweather Post Pavilion. The second half is especially strong, probably more so than the first half. But it still has really great melodies on it, and is really beautiful at times. I feel like Panda Bear was more focused on this effort, whereas Centipede Hz seemed like maybe more of a distraction for him. I was hoping maybe he would bring a more grounded, cohesive tone to this new record. Maybe that will be the case.

the aesthetic is secondary, it's all about the songwriting. The end of Burglars brought me back to AC's creative melody writing of stuff form like oddsac and strawberry jam. Vertical didn't do much for me but that might be the horrible bathroom recording or the guy associating it with PHISH.
All in all anyone who is a fan of AC has no reason to not by hyped for this.

While i see what you're saying, Animal Collective makes such atmospheric music. Their music includes so much sonic detail, and frequent use of dense noises. Being able to hear the gist of an Anco song will never do it proper justice.
Not only that, but their use of progression of a song is also quite important imo. Imagine what you think if you got a 45 second preview of My Girls. Without the entire context of the song it seems bland, it's the song's sense of repetition and progression that makes it so damn powerful.
