the hell are those inlays/stickers? Bullet holes?
\m/
What think of Ibanez RG2EZ1?
Do you guys look at your pretty guitars all they long, or do you play them?
I feel that, if I was going to buy a pretty PRS, I'm gonna be so nervous playing it for fear of damaging it. I would probably hang it up and gawk at it.
>>60666313
go home nerd
I just bought one of these. Cant wait until it gets here. Anyone got any experience with it?
>>60666351
congrats. no direct experience but seems most people that have an issue with it has to do with the lack of a master volume and not being able to get the pedal to unity gain...pedal is too loud. apparently you can contact brady and he can tell you how to make overall gain adjustment if you're handy with a soldering iron OR you can send it back to them to do the mod for you. I"m waiting for the V2 to come out with added algorithms and volume control.
>>60666347
>4chan
I am home, though...
>>60666331
accidents are going to happen if you are a gigging musican. ive got a prs with a chipped point on the headstock and ding in the body along with normal buckle rash. doesn't effect the sound so it's never really bothered me. i don't plan on ever selling it so its not really an issue. maybe 20 years from now beat up PRS will be an "in" thing and i can cash in lol
>>60666351
nice to see they're finally making pedals where you can flip the tits of someone.
maybe next time they could try to make it so that it's a girl's titties
>>60666621

>>60666930
>>60666968
Looked at the bridge and it's a "LO-TRS-TREM". Googled it and found this: http://www.jemsite.com/forums/f18/lo-trs-tremwhat-is-it-92937.html
Don't buy it. Cheap floyd style bridges need to be made of good quality metals, and that one is not. You may wonder why this would be important. It's because they operate on a "knife edge" that goes dull if the metal is a cheap alloy. When it goes dull, it loses tuning stability and becomes a nightmare.
Bridges I'd avoid if I was going to get a guitar:
>cheap floyds and copies (including cheap ibanez like this one)
>6 screw fender style floating bridges
>fixed bridges with no adjustable intonation (think LP Junior, although it can be fixed by swapping the tailpiece for a pigtail)
>3 saddle telecaster bridges
>>60667089
why against telecaster saddle bridges? i dont agree or disagree. just wondering. i was looking into a telecaster and just like the vintage style bridge way more than the more modern stuff.
>>60667184
3 saddles mean you're setting the intonation for two strings at one time instead of one string at a time.
Plus if you hit the strings really hard there's more chance that one string is going to make the other vibrate.
>>60667184
I'm the guy you asked but >>60667245 is the answer. I wonder if 3 saddle bridges have tonal qualities of their own though. That said, I'll still avoid them unless there's a very interesting sound produced by those bridges.
How do I /retrowave/ with my bass guitar? I really love that dreamy sound.
>>60667368
there is no practical reason to prefer the 3 saddle set up unless you are looking for authentic or something. just can do a better job setting up the instrument with other options.

Have you had someone criticize you for using gear that "wasn't made for that genre?" Some guy told me I sounded good live but that my single coil strat wasn't right to play with heavy distortion.
>>60667400
That's one of the dumbest looking guitars I've ever seen.
>>60667500
kek, doing that is the height of faggotry, and I am the guy who was explaining the differences in sound between guitar models earlier. If you like how it sounds, more power to you. I wish I had humbuckers to use when heavily distorted but that's because I dig that sound.
>>60667500
To which you respond "Iron Maiden did well enough with them"
>>60667562
>Iron Maiden
>heavy distortion
>single coils
kek
>>60667496
sounds like some early grunge.
>>60667605
For their time, it was heavy distortion. And it's a well known fact that they use a fuck ton of strats. The classic Maiden tone is a Strat with singles through a 70s Marshall cranked.
>>60667500
Used to play in a death metal band with a dark purple/guitar loaded with BKPs. Some metalcore teen was telling me how shit my guitar was because it wasn't "metal enough" being that colour. Has to be black apparently.
>went on to use fluorescent red guitars
Picked up the nickname "fuck you red" pretty quickly in the scene.
>>60667465
Funk and synthwave are closely related man
As synthwave evolved largely frrom parts of the french sound mixed with 80s synth elements (f.e. Danger, some Daft Punk etc.) and the french style is highly influenced by funk.
You can get a lot of the flow and pressure of the synthwave style through funk dynamics.
I'm personally more partial to french electro from around '03-'08 like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tMwbHf_S9jY which also has some prominent percussive bass playing (though of course cut up and manipulated).
>>60667651
They use fat strats or strats with single coil sized humbuckers
>>60667652
It's the color that makes it metal, dontchyaknow?
>>60667746
They do now. But they also don't get tones like on they did on the old albums, either. And that's what I refer to as the classic tone.
>>60667428
>if it sounds any different
probably has some sort of minor and insignificant effect on the sound, nothing dramatic like, say, using carbon fiber saddles which will actually change the overall sound.
also its not hard at all to set up a 3 bridge setup to proper intonation. could really be considered a personal choice of you know, wanting that vintage look or whatever.
>>60667874
This, red is the most metal cause it makes you play faster
>>60667500
Yeah, it's weird. I mean, it's strange to see someone playing light jangly pop through a mesa dual ass rec, but if it sounds good that should be the end of discussion.
Unless you're playing a BC rich warlock for any style of music
>>60666331

(Yeah i posted in the last thread just before it closed, what of it?)
Okay I'm trying to make a decision about my old Squier Strat.
Option 1) Sell for a pittance and then buy a Fender strat
Pros
>Better feel and finish
>Won't need to pay to get it setup
>Better electrics and pickups
Cons
>Cost more than just replacing parts
>Lose my first guitar (had it nearly 15 years)
>I have no idea if Fenders are even a quality instrument anymore (seen some shit talking)
>Could use that money to buy a PS4
Or
Option 2) Replace parts in Squier
Pros
>Can get whatever setup I want (lace sensors and some new pots)
>Won't feel so nervous about changing stuff
>Can keep my first guitar
Cons
>Don't like the neck, changing it seems quite expensive (so far it looks like the most expensive part)
>Body is still made of shitty wood, neck is still shitty if I don't get it changed
>Waste of money if it still sounds and feels like shit
>Everyone else getting PS4s without me
What do I do?
>>60668587
>debating whether you should buy a better guitar or a PS4

>>60668587
>>Everyone else getting PS4s without me

>>60668542
Used squier or epiphone
>>60667968
>also its not hard at all to set up a 3 bridge setup to proper intonation
won't at least three strings be some cents off?
>>60668542
What style of music?
I think Ibanez RG is a decent starter guitar for metal: 24 frets, the heel where the neck connects to the body is shaped to make upper fret access more comfortable, humbucking pickups.
would you say a wholesale place from china or rondo music would have better quality control for the price. just looking for something really cheap to noodle around with and do mods. i already have higher end guitars.
>>60668628

>>60668542
Squier Telecaster
>No tremolo to fuck because you don't know what you're doing
>Nice selection of sounds
>Easy to navigate the controls
>Fairly easy to fix if you break something or mod if you don't like the sound
>Cheap but not like shitty-cheap
>>60668637
The nicer Rondo music guitars are made in the same factories are Chapman guitar and some Shecters, so take that for what you will.
>>60668615
>>60668623
Really? Well fine then I'm a manchild.
But seriously, forgetting the PS4 (one of the many things one could spend money on), if anyone has modding experience which is the better option?
>>60668587
What Squier do you have and what Fender are you considering buying? It's of major importance. For example if you had, say, a Squier Classic Vibe and were considering a Fender MIM, I'd say upgrade the Squier.
Also leave the consoles for the kids.
>>60668675
like this one?
http://www.guitarcenter.com/Squier/Affinity-Series-Telecaster-Electric-Guitar.gc
or is there a better place to get one
>>60668732
Buy the Fender. I've modded several squiers over the years and I never end up playing them.
It's like polishing a turd.
>>60668542
SX?
Used Epiphone Studio? Used Squier Standard? (don't go below these if you go these route, you'll regret a Epiphone Special II, LP100 or Squier Bullet)
>>60668587
PS4 is a money pit. You're paying shitloads for the option to buy even more stuff, and the resale value is worthless, you're better off just waiting a few years and getting one for cheap when it's cheap.
On the other hand if you buy a good guitar and take care of it, it won't lose as much s its value.
i got rid of this
>>60668881
good riddance
I like jacksons but JSs with Floyds are crap
OKAY GUYS
I want to pick up a used electric guitar. There's this: http://www.thomann.de/gb/fender_squier_classic_vibe_strat_50s.htm
and then a Cort EVL-X4. Which is better? They cost about the same.
>>60668623
The only joke is your financial status.
>>60668569
That's like S1 switching on a Gibson. 21 is still a stretch and a lot of the settings are so similar that they're not even worth it. I'm good with 2-4 settings that are actually different and a simple way to get to them.
>>60669115
Yeah it's gimmicky bullshit from the 70s. I hate the over-complicated wiring on so many guitars from about 75-85.
I like my wiring simple and easy to diagnose when something goes wrong.
General question
I've been teaching myself guitar for about a year now, playing at least 20 minutes a day but I'm at a point right now where I'm not sure where to go.
Here's what I know well:
major/minor/7th chords
major, minor, pentatonic/blues scales
lots of Ween songs
However I feel like I'm in this cycle of learning songs learning songs learning songs and then forgetting previous ones as I learn more songs. I want to play what my mind thinks. I also want to be able to play along with any songs I hear sometime in life.
Any advice?
>>60669312
>I want to play what my mind thinks
One can dream, brother.
>>60669281
I like PRS's idea of just using a 5 way rotary switch for bouncing between everything. What they choose to do with that switch is a different story.
All there is to me is HB neck, HB bridge, single coil, piezo. But I'm also cool with single pickup guitar or just jumping from two settings on a guitar.
I feel like pros just switch guitars if they need something really different. They're not going to fuck with 7 knobs/switches to pinpoint the next song.
>literally nothing on sale
Thanks, Black Friday!
I have an idea for a fun game, if you guys haven't done it before. Record a riff in a way that's different from the original. Others try to guess it.
Naturally, I start with an easy one:
https://clyp.it/wn1xo4dl
>>60669531
yeah, I guess it really is an end goal. I have so many musical ideas bouncing around in my head, but translating them to the guitar is very hard for me.
>>60669660
Try singing them slowly in the shower.
>>60669660
At this point, the best advice I can give is focus on training your ear. It's not so difficult to relearn things when you remember how it sounds and which sounds corresponds to where on the fretboard. It definitely does help a lot. I've learned most of my things by ear as well.
It's good and all seeing tabs, but at the same time, just keep learning what sound makes what, and match patterns you hear in songs to the fretboard. Eventually you'll hear a song and know that the lick or run uses something you heard before, and you'll know that pattern. It's not a 100% solution but it does add to your playing. I hope that makes sense.
>>60668947
Don't get a Cort. They're terrible.
Though i have only owned 2 Cort instruments, one bass and a guitar. The ones i have tried in a store have been bad aswell.
>>60669626
Dragonaut
>>60666233
Confirmed for shit taste
>>60669312
Keep doing what you're doing.
Master a few songs. This is important otherwise we develop bad habits of just jumping around. Being in a band is a good way to do this.
Learn theory, apply theory, branch out with your song vocabulary, work on your ear (hitting intervals, hearing something then sticking it to the fretboard)
There's a limit to everyone's music power level, but with the right dedication plebs won't be able to find yours. With more, other musicians won't find yours. namean
>>60668947
>>60669754
Even if you put a lot of money into making a Cort actually good, it'll have almost no resale value or interest, because it's a Cort.
They're just known for being shit. There's always something better out there.
>>60669312
As far as playing what you hear in yourbhead that just comes with learning more theory and watching guitarist who's stuff you enjoy/are influenced by. As far as playing by ear goes its 1 part time and 1 part having a natural propensity for it. I've beennplaying for 8 years now and it took me about 3 yearsvto confidently analyze a song.
>>60669784
Yes. Where that pic from, it's hilarious
>>60669312
try playing around different notes like on a casio or something, that way if you can figure out the key, just play around that. develop your ear

Cort, install a tremelno, bam you have a cool lesser known guitar and don't have to worry about the shitty Floyd rose knockoff.
>>60668756
It's a fat strat/HSS, I've seen a Fender one in a local shop. I'm not sure whether it's mexican or american but it's about £450.
>>60668796
Fair enough, I guess I could ask them to do a part exchange maybe.

If it's brand new for that money, it's Mexican. What Squier do you have?
>>60668902
They're not bad if you replace the hardware. Great partscaster chassis
>>60668575
Then learn disco, which directly ties in with funk anyways
>>60668673
according to that article I was right to doubt the 6 saddle tonal qualities, and seems like the compensated saddle solution is a good one. You still can't properly intonate a 3 saddle tele without modding it tho.
>>60670284
The Squier is also a HSS. It currently has the bridge humbucker from my Gibson SG in the bridge.
>>60670371
yeah, but what series is it? Bullet, Affinity, Standard, Vintage Modified, Classic Vibe?
Just throwing in that having owned a squire tele and an sx tele, the sx had a much better sound and construction. Tbh I don't know the model of the tele though, and the sx had a p90 in the neck. Just comparing bridge pickups the sx was better sounding to me. It could handle high treble without getting nasal, and closed tone without getting farty. Just my 2 cents.
>>60670359
Yeah, but what about the tone? Dry bass won't cut it I think.
I lost my left pinky, ring, middle finger 2 years ago due to frostbite... I played for roughly a decade so It was a serious bummer... However, I bought a lefty Telecaster and I'm getting the hang of it...
It's weird already knowing alot of songs and being able to sing, and applying it left handed...
Potato pic related: Fenderfag.
>>60670424
Compressor would be the most important thing. After that a decent chorus. Wouldn't personally go for any distortion or fuzz if you want an 80s accurate sound but it is a possibility.
7-string recommendations under 1k?
>>60670401
Ah shirt sorry. It's a standard (that may be the first time I've ever looked at that bit of the headstock!)
Anyone played one of these? Gibson EB sounds like sort of a ripper. I wish it was maple body and I'm not a big fan of the teeny frets, but I like how it sounds in general.
>>60670604
I think a Fender would be a major upgrade in that case.

Guys I play fretless bass in my local big band and I usually just plug into the PA system in the room for convenience, but we're being recorded on monday so that is no good. Sup /gg/, I play bass and guitar (since recently) and wanted some advice. I own pic related and a PA amp which I've used for years for my bass guitar, but my preamp got stolen so the bass sounds deprived of treble when plugged into it, mainly because of impedance mismatch and voltage mismatch. I need to get or build a new preamp, or a head altogether. What should I do /gg/? For the bass I'll most likely make a preamp, but I doubt more about the guitar. I'd like to do some nice tube based thingy so I can overdrive the power stage, since power tubes distortion is supposed to sound different from preamp distortion. The cost goes way up though. Is there a pre that can get me near that power amp distorted tone? How much coloring will I be missing because of the full range cab?
>>60671635
Forgot to mention I use my computer with VSTs as a preamp nowadays, but it always has that digital tone to it. I have a friend's Zoom G2.1u here but it sounds even more digital than the computer desu.

Hell if I know. I'm a bassist. If you wanna go for a cheap Ibanez but stay out of the Gio range, you're pretty fucked in my opinion unless you cop a cheap RG
>>60671673

>>60671723
take this with a pinch of salt because I know shit about Ibanez guitars, the only I've played was a friend's Gio 121 I think it was, it had horrid pickups.
RG-321MH
Fixed bridge so you won't have tuning stability problems.
>>60671723
The best I can recommend if you're really set on an Ibanez is looking around for any passive RG. I don't know how they work exactly, but the RGX50 series is solid and all I can first-hand recommend. Everything else is a maybe.
That said, since you're on a budget.

lads, how does one write song?
When I sit down I can easily come up with alot of interesting patterns, but it seems impossible to create a coherent song out of them thats also a pleasure to listen to. Should I just smoke a bunch of DMT and write down what I come up with?
I'm going for a purely instrumental song on the acoustic if that helps.

Used, Ibanez RG7620, RG7621, RG1527, RG15271, UV7BK, or K-7. Will blow a Schecter away. They're all MIJ.
>>60670653
Ibanez MIJ stuff is still great. Just steer clear of Edge Zero tremolos. They're new stuff using Original Edge bridges are fantastic.
>>60670680
RG7621 would blow a C7 away for less money.

I trust A/DA will do fine, but they could screw things up in the process of making it smaller. If the original size is still available however then I can't imagine any problems.
On another note, I'm wanting to get a National even though there's some demos where I straight up don't like the sound and some that I love it. I don't know if it'll sound too "honky" or too bassy or it'll be perfect enough to replace wooden acoustics.

No. The RG470 was only confirmed Made In Japan in 1992 and 1993. Production moved to Korea after that. Post-2000 models are murky on their origin. Same claim they're Japanese, but they're most likely still Korean.
The 2002 model (MIK) also has a Lo-TRS, possibly the worst bridge Ibanez has ever made.
Throw into the mix the fact that guitar has IBZ pickups and it gets more concerning. RG470s made from 98 on wards should have Duncan Designs. Makes me think it's probably a mid to late 90s MIK model.
>>60674610
>schecter v ibanez
There isn't one there. The Schecter is MIK, the Ibanez is MIJ. Just be aware RG7621s have the psuedo-DiMarzios, whereas that Schecter has EMGs. Focus on playability. I'd be going the Ibanez without a doubt though, it's cheaper and a MUCH better guitar.
>>60674693
>Duncan Designs
Sorry early in the morning, they have an Ibanez pickup, but not the IBZ. Hard to explain.
>>60674178
>>60674693
Yep. It's a Lo-TRS. Avoid like the plague.
Would date it somewhere between 98 and 02, possibly MIJ, but not with the same QC or attention to detail as a prestige.
They go to Edge Pros after that, which are functionally alright, but lack the locking studs of a Lo-Pro or Original, so they're not as stable. They also changed how they anodized the metal, so they aren't as durable.
Sorry about the wall of text, Ibanez models and specifications in that era can be weird.
>>60674786
Oh, Picture is an Edge Pro, for reference. They look way different to a Lo-TRS.
Opinions on the Jackson SLATXMG3-6? Or soloists in general?

>>60666151
Is there a general consensus on this: Buy a decent guitar/bass and replace electronics and pickups for cheap, or buy an expensive guitar/bass that you don't need to tinker with? It would be a 5-string bass in my case, I'm not sure if I should just buy something like a fender american standard or if I should buy something cheap and get proper pickups for it.

Start with just a chord progression. Try to have a chorus and verse. Then see if you can come up with a basic vocal melody through just improv. It's best to start simple, it's actually a lot easier to flesh out a song if you have a restrictive chord progression in place. When you have written a couple songs built off chords it'll be a lot easier to build ones off riffs or more abstract ideas.

>>60677608
>Unless they started making them out of ply or something what's so bad about them
That's basically what happened unfortunately. Good side is old JS don't hold their value even slightly, so it doesn't really matter.
I'd push to a DK2 or DK2S though... or buy an RG560/RG550.
>>60677632

Why buy a Thunderverb 200 when you can get a Verellen Meat smoke (300w), a 180w Green, or a 200w Hovercraft for less? I'm considering these, so any advice is appreciated.
I really want a new bass. My old one was a shitty Fender Precision knockoff with a neck so warped I can barely find a in tune note. My other bass is a ok five-string but the strap button keeps on falling out.
Is this a good bass to move onto? I've been looking at it for almost 6 months and I think it's the one. Been playing for over a year. Thoughts?

never had the chance to play one of those but read good things about it. the reverb machine also has pre/post gain stages, a tuneable drone and momentary feedback ramp up stomp. some other neat tricks too. had good experience with other EQD pedals but not really a fan of reverb pedals at all. like this one cause its easy to get rather unique/crazy sounds/textures.

You a lefty? If you are, you'll have a tougher time finding a good selection, but Ibanez makes a solid bass for cheap, so I'd say you could drop the few hundred to take it away.
If you're not a lefty, then consider looking at LTDs or ESPs, which are basically just Ibanez's but slightly nicer and geared towards heavier/more aggressive tones.
You can also find some lefty ones there too, which is cool.

I write right-handed, but I play instruments like drums and bass left-handed. I have been since I was 10. Definetly a small selection, but I like it better than sorting through every guitar brand and model imaginable.
In the 2 bands I play bass in, I play rock and metal. Black Sabbathy style in one, Nrvana-ish in the other band. But I listen to a lot of jazz and play Jazz at home, so I want a bass that isn't just for rock. that's why I want the Ibanez they are known for working with both those genres.
Any specific model you might recommend?
>>60678456
>playing drums left handed

>>60678222
Should be. I'd call around. Try luthiers and furniture/antique refinishers. Ask if you can send them the body and get an estimate.
This amp sits in half of an $8 piece of common board from Home Depot. This is the cheapest solid wood I could find. It just takes time and effort to get results.
>>60678340
Hmm I'm USA, I wonder if they would ship them from UK. Something to consider. Model V? Been looking at Science amps some too, seem kind of cool. Might have to see if I can get an old Matamp or an old Orange. Do you know how the Thunderverb is voiced compared to the OR's?

>>60678456
A jazz bass can cover pretty much anything rock and jazz, idk about metal though, I'm not too familiar with it. I would imagine that a large variety of basses could be used with the right eq. Active bass is pretty different from passive and that's a big choice.
>>60678512

>>60678525
The USA stuff has a reputation for being unreliable. That's why a lot of big names that used to play BLACK and GREEN amplifiers don't anymore.
You could get a Matamp shipped from the UK, but I don't see why you would. Buy an OR120, same sort of money same sort of sound, and without the international shipping headache.
>Model V?
Verellen makes a Model T clone, as close to the original, or as modified as you like. They're sold as Model Vs.
>Do you know how the Thunderverb is voiced compared to the OR's?
Not an ORANGE guy, but the OR is a different beast. Much better amplifier.

Wall of amplifiers usually gets people.
>>60678586
I'm from Canadia. Thanks for explaining the lefty drummer thing. I play a right handed kit but I just play open. I considered Schecters but they seemed too hard rock/metal for me because I do play a lot of jazz.
>>60678571
Lefty Fender Jazz Basses are too expensive for me right now. They have some lefty Squiers but I don't want to get a Squier as a intermediate bass. I think active EQ would be nice as a intermediate player, gives me a whole new realm to explore.

Honestly man I find my Schecter Custom 6 stiletto to be pretty damn versatile considering it has an EMG pre-amp system. I use it in a tech-death band but it works for Jazzy stuff easily, I used it in a country jam once and it kept up perfectly (reminder that active pickups were made for Jazz guitarists originally).
Really you can't go wrong with either brands basses. I preferred the look of the Schecter plus I got a hell of a deal on it while I was shit out of luck finding the Ibbys. Plus I wanted a 6 string bass and Ibanez didn't make one at that point for lefties iirc.

I'm still waiting on that fucking BMT guitar though....though it's still fun to post as it gives people a ton of asspain.
Look used man as lefty guitars rarely keep value since they're a pain to sell, had a mate who scored a lefty Omen 5 string for $300 when the local shop wanted $700 for one kek (I'm Australian by the way so prices are skewed as fuck). iirc my 6 string bass was like $400 off for some stupid reason so definitely look everywhere you possibly can for a cracker deal!

Um. What? It's a mid-output A2 pickup man.
If you want something overtly thick put an Alnico Warpig in it.

>>60680845
Headphones really come down to preference. I almost always opt for Sennheisers because I tend to mix too dark. The exaggerated low end keeps my mixes a bit brighter. Either way though, I can't stand mixing on headphones and I can't be the only one.

Do not get a squire. Not a bad guitar, but price for value you're better off with http://www.rondomusic.com/ursa2rnbkpack.html
If you don't like the look you can get other colors, but IDK if they have any other s that come with the amp. First thing you need to do when you get ur bass is set it up, check out dave's world of fun stuff's bass setup tutorial. Have fun
Alright anons, I need your help.
How do I get the really fucking scratchy sound that appears on the intro riff to this song?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4Cro2yxRjw
I know it's something got to do with the bridge pickup and something related to the top strings but I can't for the life of me figure out how these guys do it.
>>60679955
Unfortunately they have some build quality and design issues, which is a shame because their my favorite sounding bass. Weird no one does a similar pickup configuration. You can get pretty close with a gibson ripper to the tone for about half the price I think? If you look for a used one, they don't make many new ones.
>>60681054
Raise your bridge pickup up high as fuck, and with your right hand slam down on the strings till they touch.
>>60681054
Idk but its definitely a single coil bridge. Probably treble pretty high. I would try doing some big cuts or boosts around the mid range, and see what happens.
>>60681084
He's left handed, if Gibson are anything to go by a ton of their models have no lefties available at all.
>>60681054
I've tried figuring out his one for a long time, sadly iirc the guitarist who played on this one passed away and the new one doesn't do this song justice.
fairly sure he was doing harmonics over the 3rd fret on the high B and E strings, reminder that Steve would do a lot of upstrokes, very heavy picking style too. iirc he always had a humbucker in the bridge too which you'd wanna raise a fair bit. For this album I'm almost convinced it was a 5150 so there's a fair bit of saturation to his tone too.
Lucs picking style was had a ton of up-strokes too which is what gave most of his chords odd voicings.
>>60681187
>>60681054
Also from live vids looks like Steeve did a fair bit of just hammering his strings like another anon said.
Obscura was all about getting abrasive sounds man haha, still the best DM album of all time imo.
>>60681145
I've raised it as high as I can and slammed on it while playing the riff, can't seem to get that sound out.
>>60681211
I'm seeing the same thing too from live vids, but I really can't get the right sound.
And Obscura is my favorite death metal album of all time too, nothing else really matches up to it, not even Gorgut's latest work.
>>60681246
Raise it higher and slam it harder. I've gotten that sound, and I'm 100% sure that's what it is.
>>60681246
Jah even their new guitarist can't get it man
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qoaWiQDb2SI
Sounds way off from how Steeve did it. Steeve slammed that guitar with a lot of precision though yet had a very loose style. Usually most guitarists tend to sit on either side of the spectrum. Also when I mean hard picking style I mean, turn the gain down a bit, and actually dig into your guitar to get the heavies.
Colored Sands was great but imo sounds like Luc just listened to a lot of Ulcerate. But then again Colored Sands seems to have inspired Job For A Cowboy to make the best album they'll ever achieve so that's awesome lol.
>>60681282
I've raised it to maximum but when I fret the notes for the opening of the riff the string gets stuck to the magnet so I had to lower it by a bit. Let me try this again.
>>60681296
Yeah, their new guitarist can't get the right tone either. I'm honestly not surprised, considering how hard this song is.
>>60676069
Cause its fukin see thru
>>60681329
Depends a lot on what pickups you're using too. I have no idea what Steeve used but higher-output pups aren't too great for getting close to the strings. I know Lemay uses Bareknuckles now and they're usually fairly med-output.
I know right, I mean he's a great guitarist (Steeve recommended him himself) but a lot of his stuff is unique to his style of playing. On their new stuff he kills it though and for their next album I hope he plays a larger role.
>>60681329
I think it's easier to do with active pickups, since the strings don't stick to them.
>>60681376
>>60681361
I'm using the stock pickups that came with my japan deluxe strat so I'm not sure if they're suitable for the song.
>>60681400

"As for the intro pick slam;
It is only possible to do only if your bridge pickup's hugging your strings, otherwise you CAN do it but it's a lot harder to get the sound heard on the CD without hammering your pickup.
It's same for the Solo backing rhythm every none fretting note is a Pick scrape done in the same way as in the beginning intro.
Main Signing Riff is all done in Upstrokes, ALL.
The tapping solo is first hard to learn but once you've pulled it, it's a really fun solo to do."

>Obscure
>Best Death Metal
Prefer diSEMBOWELMENT myself.
>>60681520
dISEMBOWELMENT might be the best Australian metal band but I dunno bout the rest of the world.
Is this one good or is it shit too?

>>60681438
I've been at it for a while now and I still can't get the sound down. My pickups are as close as possible to my strings and my hand is starting to hurt from slamming on the strings so much.
>>60681703
Lol take a break. But the guy who posted the video of the cover above should be your best resource.
Hi everyone
I posted in the last thread about buying a DD-500 and getting my axe fixed. Here it is, still as shiny as the day I bought it, plus my amp.
One thing, I've always had a bit of trouble with the input on the guitar. I'm not stupid but I don't know heaps about electrical stuff, I took my guitar into the shop to get fixed up before this and I'd assumed they would have fixed this problem, they didn't
I basically had to bend the lead (Which is brand new) around the nut at the back and then hold it in place with blutac to get the sound I wanted. What would I need to do to fix this problem? I'm going back to the shop tomorrow to ask why they didn't fix it, but I bet they'll tell me it'll cost extra for them to service.
Also, what are some cool things to play with delay pedals? I've just mucked around and did some riffing/open chords/played all the scales I knew but what are some fun things to use it for, just to get a feel
>>60679581
http://vocaroo.com/i/s09V588bPIse
Working on getting my wanky solos cleaner. Shit is obnoxiously harder to play standing up than it is sitting down, I might have to become one of those 'guitar-as-a-bow-tie' guys with the super high straps
>>60682427
also I'll go by this name from now on here
>>60678629
>Not an ORANGE guy, but the OR is a different beast. Much better amplifier.
this
used to own a thunderverb 200, you could do the occasional "bwooooooooo)))" stuff but not very much else. get an or120 or if you can find one, an OD120
>>60682427
>Also, what are some cool things to play with delay pedals
Set slap back delay to dotted eighth notes and play staccato eighth note stuff
instant Big Sur Moon imitation
http://vocaroo.com/i/s1Vr208pi7TL
(quiet audio, turn up a bit)
>>60673746
>Have you tried the signal chain I've posted here a few times?
what do you mean? the impulse response plugins?
Does anyone play a 7 string exclusively? What do you do with the low B string when you are not playing metal?
>>60670481
it's okay man, you got this!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQhTpgicdx4&ab_channel=EuroArtsChannel
So on bass I'm good at picking, decent at slap but can't play with my fingers whatsoever. Is this really weird? I feel like slap ability and finger ability should be the codependent thing but I can't finger at all.
>>60683389
Nah, I personally don't think they're that related. With slap most of the motion comes from the wrist itself, as opposed to individual fingers. To get good at fingerpicking, you'd still have to have the ability to coordinate your fingers independently, significantly moreso than you'd do with simple slaps.
>>60682889
Noisegate (REAPER VST) -60db
Compressor (GuitarRig, but any would do)
TSE808
Noisegate (REAPER VST) -60db
Parametric EQ adding +4db to 120Hz
The Anvil preamp (lead channel)
NadIR running ASEM V30 on left and right in dual mono.
Parametric EQ cutting -2db at 240Hz
High Pass at 60Hz
>>60681703
Obscura anon here, I'm back at it and still can't get that sound out of it. What pedals did Steeve use?
>>60683389
I'm pretty good with 2- and 3-finger technique for my fingerpicking, but I'm terrible at slap. They're not linked.
>>60682427
Are you Australian?
>>60682463
Sounds cool except for that one hesitant part.
>>60683499
He's from Adelaide iirc
So I'm trying to buy myself an MIJ Fender and looking to import because they're too fucking expensive to buy in my own country. Do you guys recommend Ishibashi? What are your experiences with them? I'm having a hard time trying to gauge them.
Out of interest, I was quoted for a Fender Jazz JB62 MIM (yeah, cheapie) for 20-24k ZAR. That translates to $1380-1660, which is fucking ridiculous.
>>60682427
>I basically had to bend the lead (Which is brand new) around the nut at the back and then hold it in place with blutac to get the sound I wanted
Excuse me?
>>60683616
>>60683499
yeah I'm from Adelaide
>>60683680
Okay, worded that pretty badly
Basically to get a sound from the guitar through the amp the lead had to be pushed a little to the left because the input is a little fucked
So I looped the cable around the back of the guitar and held it in place with some of this stuff (pictured) to keep tension on the cable, thereby keeping tension on the jack on the appropriate side
>>60683684
>>60683706
Which tech did you use? If it was anyone but Salvi you fucked up.
>>60683684
Canberra here
I caved and bought a DD500 on the weekend too
>>60683729
>Salvi
No I had no idea that place even existed
I just went to Allans/Billy Hyde in the city
Why, would I have paid less if I went there?
I just checked Salvi's website, desu it doesn't look as if I would have saved any money by going there instead.
I don't have a car, getting to thebarton would have been more effort than it's worth to me, also made it harder for me to collect.
>>60683756
nice
I'm too shithouse to make anything good come out of it yet but I like the shimmer effect a lot
>>60683790
You go to Salvi because he's a LOT better than any other guitar tech in Adelaide. Allans Music is pretty much the worst place you could go. If you HAVE to go to a place in the city at least go to FretCo.
>>60683826
I'll take your word for it
All they did was an intonation, something to the truss rod and restringing. I don't think that's possible to fuck up anyway
>>60683876
Salvi does pretty much anything you can think of as part of the general setup.
He's the only tech in Adelaide I let touch my guitars nowadays.
>>60683888
Yeah desu they were pretty fucking lazy
they didn't have it ready by when they said they would, and my input is still fucked
would this guy have fixed my input and not charged me?
I paid a fair bit for it, I didn't even think about going anywhere else at the time
>>60683466
Help please
>>60683923
>would this guy have fixed my input and not charged me?
If he had to replace it he'd charge you for the part, but that's about it. The only time he'll charge a bit more is if it takes awhile, even then he'll call you to confirm first.
He got all the electronics on my strat working without replacing or resoldering anything. Anyone else would've torn the original electrics out without a second thought.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BgN0fSCoDmM
>>60682463
Really, that's the way to go. It's like pants, the older you get the higher you wear them. I used to hold my guitar at my groin, now it's just below my chest. And about every year it comes up an inch because I realize I have trouble playing something because of posture.
>>60684279
I hope that doesn't happen for me, my guitar is just below my tits.
>>60678796
Yeah but there is no way you ever use that power. I highly doubt that your cab is rated for 800w
>>60668587
You should get a job
>>60684805
You've got to consider the fact that to produce the same volume at an octave lower you need double the wattage. Which is why 5 string basses can end up being played on some 500W amp to compete with a 150W guitar amp.
>>60684805
Actually he probably does. A GT800FX puts out ~120-150 watts at 16ohms. That cabinet is probably rated for 240 watts.
What do you guys think about scuffs, dents, scratches and songs on your guitar?
Battle scars?
Or something that is an eyesore?
