I'll try to explain you why I hate it:
No matter how complex you make them, djent riffs only trigger the cavemanest, niggerest part of my mind. It can be fun but they're nothing more than a call to convulse up and down and make ooga booga noises.
And yet somehow, many djent bands, such as Periphery, think that this kind of feeling is compatible with progressive metal and that it can support an intricate narrative and deep feelings. To that end they put a shitton of gaudy effects over those riffs and sing like a mid-2000s mallgoth emocore band, hoping that it'll make us feel like we're in a space opera epic or someshit. And to a degree it does, except it's the most run-of-the-mill, uninspired, 2010s video game kind of space opera possible, with shitty lensflares everywhere and muh polygons and I fucking hate that aesthetic. It's not space opera because it doesn't have identifiable classic epic stuff in it, and it's not cyberpunk because it casualizes the use of technological stuff or makes it look all pretty like we're supposed to be amazed by all that shit that looks like it came out of an apple store.
By saying that I'm describing both contemporary blockbuster scifi AND djent because they're the same shit. And Periphery is a typical example of this.

le pitchfork gave it a 8 so it must be good amiright?
>>60630202
>pitchfork gave it a 8 so it must be bad because pitchfork is popular so they must be wrong
>>60630202
nice false dichotomy
do you see any other p4k-approved artists in my chart besides thugger and prurient?
>>60630229
big bad Meaghan reviewed it tho and we all know how much she hates white people. plus she gave ds2 and 8.
