How can toanz be real if our ears aren't real?
>>
Does anyone else have have a problem with their Telecaster where they keep accidentally hitting the pickup switch and changing pickups by mistake? Or am I just really sloppy?
>>
How long does it usually take for the fingertips to harden? I just got into bass a couple weeks ago and my fingers are on the verge of bleeding. I try to practice at least 2 hours a day if that matters.
>>

>>
>>60608704
Don't practice to the point of pain

Also give it a month or two, it's not exactly a long term thing. If a career guitarist/bassist stops playing for a while he'll have to build it back up
>>
Yo
I taught myself how to play a bunch of songs on bass but I want to play guitar too. I have a shitty acoustic that feels like garbage I got for free, but I want to play electric.

Should I stick with my shitty acoustic or should I get a guitar? I have a Fender Rumble 25 for my bass, would this work for a guitar too? I know the amp does different things for different instruments but for just practicing would it be okay? I know what guitar I'd get, a Jazzmaster.

Anyone else have a new gear day recently? So far this is becoming my favorite fuzz.

>>60608704
I noticed mine start to callous up a month or two in, but I already had somewhat calloused fingertips.

>>60608676
I've had that issue before when I played Tele's, but my hands are pretty big and sometimes i get excited when palying songs and strum more than I should.

basically it happens.

> Should I stick with my shitty acoustic or should I get a guitar?

Do you have any disposable income? Should be able to get a decent guitar for 200 bucks.

> I have a Fender Rumble 25 for my bass, would this work for a guitar too?

I personally play guitar through a GK bass amp on occasion and it sounds meh. Passable. Lower end or warmer amps usually sound like ass but if you don't give a fuck there's no harm to it.
>>
>>60608798
Yeah, I think they just put the switch in a shitty place. I hate how Les Pauls look, but they got the pickup-switch placement right.
>>
I want sheet for coplas del pastor enamorado but there are no free ones available
And all of the sold ones are physical and on the other side of the world

Fuck my life, how's it going for you?
>>
>>60608760
I'd recommend toying around a bit with the acoustic before deciding to get a more expensive guitar. The guitar probably won't sound great through a bass amp but it'll work for practice. I've heard that using a guitar with a bass amp can be harmful, but I've also heard that some pros like to do it so you'll probably be fine.

btw, despite the tweeter thing being real, you can probably plug it into your computer speakers. I have a 2.1 and it sounds great with my guitar. Not so much with my bass though.
>>
>>60608874
Any guitar/bass in any amp is risk free, worst case scenario it sounds like ass

The problem is you might blow your speakers if you're pushing frequencies they can't handle, like bass through a guitar combo amp
>>
>>60608847
Really? I don't like it there, it makes it hard to do tapping riffs imo, but it is out of the way for sure.
>>
>>60608949

the only bass combo I know that sounds great with guitar is the tweed bassman, and it does for a reason, it sucks ass for bass

An anon here posted about a week ago about the roland cubes on sale, I was about to pull the trigger on one and noticed sweet water started up their Jew Friday deals. Now I'm not sure what to get. Is there an amp I should be looking out for?

Like the cube because built in effects and all that, what are some good amps to look for? I don't plan on gigging or anything just fucking around in my room, probably with headphones on. Any suggestions /gg/?
>>

Then get an interface like the scarlet 2i2 and use the direct signal into some VST like guitar rig or amplitube to shape your signal.
That way if you ever get an actual amp, you can just buy a mic and be able to record.

>>60610865
Stfu. Even though you're right.
>>
>>60611130
I own a 2i2 and it works okay but I prefer my analog effects

It's a nice thing to own if you want to record dry tracks and if your PC and music area are the same
>>
>>60611257
>I own a 2i2 and it works okay but I prefer my analog effects
Difference is, a whole pedalboard can cost you around 500$ while an interface and pirating guitar rig will only cost you 1/5th of that.
>>
>>60611292
I make enough money to afford both

I also don't like lugging a laptop and USB interface around for jams and whatnot

It also does not feature footswitches or linear pedals

tl;dr it's a nice thing to own but it's not an end-all solution for guitar/bass effects

I would definitely recommend one to the other guy since it's the best affordable way to record yourself and experiment with your tone and also serves as a tuner
>>
>>60608613
anyone got any opinions on Victory amps? i'm looking to get either the Victory RD or the Kraken. I'm not exactly swimming in money but i like the tone.
>>
>>60611257
So I have a bass as well. Is it possible to layer tracks, use it as a loop pedal, make songs, or even use a bass and all that with the i2?

I think I might get that instead of the roland. Even though it would be nice to have an amp, I'm not really taking it to Jam anywhere anyway.

Thanks
>>
>>60611912
You can use any DAW you want for tracking. I haven't personally tried a software loop but I see no reason as to why it wouldn't work (although peripheral use might be a bitch).

And you can use the bass but I don't know if I'd pipe that into a pair of desktop speakers to be honest.

I had the Micro Cube, and currently have the Cube 20GX. They're awesome practice amps. Can get good times out of it pretty easily.

The built in effects are alright at best. Not really all that great. If you want some thing simple, easy to use, is built sturdy, and sounds decent, the Cubes are great. Not something I'd plan on playing a show with, but great for home use and jamming with others.

If you go the whole USB interface route and using VSTs, its going to be a bit more involved. I wouldn't suggest doing it unless you plan on making recordings honestly.

I run my Eleven Rack and POD HD through a Scarlett 2i2 to make recordings, and the Cube to actually play around and write with.

>>
>>60612081
I'm not a huge fan of Elixers, they tend to feel greasy to the touch and I don't even get sweaty hands when playing. Your frets could be a bit worn out, after all constant string vibration against a surface will wear it down over time. Could also be some rusting on the string itself, or your action could be a little too low.
>>
>>60612480
not him but i'm the other elixr user, i actually use elixrs WITH fast fret so i have really slippery strings. i love it

you want to know what fret polishing 90% of the time consists of?

they tape the fretboard off with masking tape and rub #0000 steel wool on the frets. sometimes they use a metal polishing agent after that to make them more polished.

you can literally do it yourself and it's going to cost you $15 in materials at most.

learn how to setup your own guitars. it's not difficult.

which thread holes are messed up on your guitar? the strap?

Hey fellas. Been playing for like 6 years now and I've got a pic related for an amp. With the cab that goes with it, too.

My two electrics are: jackson rr4 with a pair of EMGs, dont know which, bought the whole thing used. I also have a Fujigen Odyssey Expert ASH-R.

I love both these, but the jackson is pretty worn, and the FGN is just a good ol strat, not much of a metal guitar. I want a new metal guitar, but I'm at a a loss for which one to get. A new jackson wouldnt hurt, but I feel like they're not that suited for playing black-metal. Ibanez seems ideal for this, but I havent tried it out too much. Any suggestions?

Hi anon.

How long have you been playing? Can you play anything, or are you just bad?

Are you an intermediate player or do you genuinely suck? If you've got the fundamentals down, it just takes practice. If you genuinely suck and have no idea what you're doing, try lessons.

And make goals and work to achieve them regardless

>>60619282
the only thing I have against the 2i2 is how the majority of the volume control is in the top 20% of the knob. you basically have to toy with it until it's perfect or accept having to boost your tracks 6-10db after recording.

The guitar doesn't matter as much as the pickups. A Jackson would be fine for black metal as long as you had pickups with a lot of bite and high end.
>>
>>60619315
> A new jackson wouldnt hurt, but I feel like they're not that suited for playing black-metal. Ibanez seems ideal for this, but I havent tried it out too much.

FYI, this sort of thinking is nonsense.

Electric guitars are way more versatile than most people seem to think. So much of tone comes from the amp and any decent player can adapt to fretboard radius, neck profile, scale length, etc pretty easily.

The difference between an Ibanez and a Jackson, specifically in how suited they are for black metal, amount to pretty much nothing.

>>
>>60619463
Yeah, if this is your first month, get to a teacher. It's hard going from mary had a little lamb to anything interesting on your own
>>
>>60619521
Yeah, Gibsons seem incredible for almost anything. Which one should I get, however? The explorer model is sexy as all hell, but the Vs are pretty ace, too. I realize its all very subjective and I'd have to try shit out for myself. Maybe I should just go with a gibson, even if they're a bit pricey,
>>
>>60619561
scale length impacts tone a great deal too
it's one of the main reasons why fenders have twang and gibsons don't
>>
>>60619564
u wot m8? how am i a blooze lawyer
>just fyi: i'm STEM masterrace
>>
>>60619588

It is important but it's not everything. You can twang on Jaguars and Mustangs and they're shorter than Gibsons.
>>
>>60619561
I realize what you're saying, but I see a LOT of black-metal players using Ibanez, which would make me more lenient to try them out for it than some other brand.
>>
>>60619581
they aren't much pricier than good jacksons though. I love most of them except for the Les Paul, unless it's the M-III Studio Lite. You could also try Dean or ESP. What black metal style would you be doing? Because if it's a-la-inner circle (mayhem, burzum, immortal, you get the picture), I'd probably avoid active pickups
>>60619619
well, bridge is important too. but scale length is determinant to overtones. A fat strat can sound close to a LP but not quite, for example.
>>
>>60619630
At the end of the day, the majority of Jackson and Ibanez have the same scale length and the same tonewoods. They also play much the same, with similar neck profiles and string spacings. Just play a few for yourself and find what works for you.
>>
>>60619630
I see more gibsons and their clones tbqh but I'm an old school guy so perhaps we don't listen to the same bands
>>
>>60619630

If they're using Ibanez it's probably for reasons other than sound or playability like aesthetics or build quality, not because one is better for black metal than the other.

>>60619643

Oh, I definitely agree with you. But it's not really an end all thing and once the amp gets involved the waters get really murky.

>>60619561
I think he means it more from an idea point of view. Different guitars give people different inspiration. If someone feels like an Ibanez is more black metal than a Jackson, they may find it easier to write that type of music with it.

Gear: Epiphone SG, Spectrum "Stratocaster", Fender Mini Deluxe

Desired gear: Fender Telecaster, Silverburst Gibson Les Paul, ESP LTDM330R, literally any Marshall full-sized amp

How long playing: a few months now, still amateur as fuck

Favorite guitars: Telecaster, HSS Strat, Gibson Les Paul, anything ESP

Projects: learning how not to suck at guitar. Too poor to pay for lessons, can't find anywhere to start online, since I'm not a full newbie but no expert either

Favorite guitarists: Slash, Eric Clapton, Dave Grohl, Chris Shiflett, Noodle, ERock

Discussion: since my only amp is a Fender Mini Deluxe, I'm thinking about getting a Marshall MG Series. Yes, they're not the best from Marshall, but they fit my price range, and all the video reviews I've seen show they've got the tones I'm looking for. I tried a Carvin once, and it was a really solid guitar, but didn't buy it because it had no pickup selectors, but toggle switches instead. And I felt like there was no point buying a pre built Carvin.

I've done the same with the tuners and nut, have been wanting to upgrade the pups for a while now. Which did you choose and how do they compare to the stock SE pups? I really like the tone and output of the ones it came with but I'm sure there's better out there with a similar character.
>>
>>60622080
Liquifire and Crunch lab. I have always liked JP's sound and thought they would be a good match for a Boogie.

They have more output for sure, the voicing is more of my liking for the neck and the bridge is a bit meh, Illuminator is much better in my opinion.

I would choose different pups now, maybe some Titans/Illuminators or if I had money to spare some BKPs or murican PRS set.
>>
>>60621900
Great guitars for the price. I guess the big 2 possible deal-breakers are the scale length and the pickups. Some people feel that 25" is too short for a 7 string, and the stock pickups aren't really suited for modern metal.

This is a retarded assumption people make.

The people who spend a lot of money on gear are people who have a lot of money to spend on gear. End of story.

The no talents are usually the people who obsess over gear to a ridiculous extent. Corksniffers, etc.

Uh. No. Talent and gear are mutually exclusive. It's like not there's a quantize pedal that'll fix all your playing in real time.

I have great gear, but I busted my ass working for years and years to get it.

Yes there are people who have expensive guitars and suck. Yes there are people with cheap guitars who are fantastic. There are also people with cheap guitars who suck, and people with expensive guitars who are fantastic.
