/nbbmn/ - French BM Edition
Old thread: >>60354826
we /baguette/ now
daily reminder that this might not be the best french album but it's the most french album
first for Le Mal des Siècles
>>60364979
What do you mean by Black Metal itself and the essence of it?
I think there's already a lot of ideas to explore with sample-based BM and even the vaporwave aesthetic's degree of compatibility with BM. Both are all about the ruin aesthetic after all, just not from the same time periods.
I'm French btw. Gonna go see Shining (nor) next week.
I hope there aren't any patricians among jihadists and that Shining is still obscure enough.
>>60365015
no it's not
here's a French BM album that's frencher
>>60365024
how does that compare to their debut? I never checked it out after being kinda disappointed by the follow up to Cut Your Flesh...
>>60365051
I'm seeing them sunday evening, cool shit
>>60365051
>i'm french
glad you're safe Pierre
>What do you mean by Black Metal itself and the essence of it?
can't really explain this in words, in all honesty, i just thought about doing a vaporwave album with samples from albums, documentaries and interviews into something that fully explains (through sounds, not words) what i believe BM, or at least it's spirit, to be
Jazz Shining are p cool btw
>>60365051
I feel like The Ark Work is the closest thing we've seen to black metal examined through a vaporwave aesthetic and mindset. It's an actual cohesive artistic statement as well, which is pretty nice.
>>60365109
So it'd be like a deconstructionist approach of black metal through the lens of another genre, like Sunn O)))'s Black One or Murmuüre ?
anyone else unable to like Deathspell Omega and find them massively overrated?
noodling + wankery I call it wankling
>>60365051
>>60365105
>Gonna go see Shining (nor) next week.
Saw them during last Hellfest. It was during the Slipknot set so the crowd who was there knew what they were here for, and man it got really crazy.
It was fantastic, the front man is technically amazing and the last album will probably be great live. Bon concert les amis.
>>60365145
>noodling + wankery I call it wankling
I hope you didn't actually think that was funny anon
>>60365135
I don't think it's a cohesive artistic statement, the only thing that keeps it together is HHH's extreme autism, it doesn't feel organic and solid to me.
which is ironic for a self-proclaimed Gesamtkunstwerk.
and really there's nothing on The Ark Work that hasn't already been done before.
>>60365157
shitposting + low effort I call it leffortosting
>tfw Australian
>tfw no good black metal/gloom music fests
when i saw the apex fest lineup I cry
>>60365141
>So it'd be like a deconstructionist approach of black metal through the lens of another genre
in some way but not really, it deconstructs it at first, and then reconstructs it back, and although it's a different genre it's still using largely BM samples
>>60365135
the ark work makes me feel like i'm getting fucking trolled without even being one the joke, blackened vaporwave, even with this discussion, could be done to be pleasant to the ear
>>60365148
à toi aussi mon frère
also, I'm pretty damn sure that suicide mission terrorists would choose the other Shining 10 times out of 10 ;^)
>>60365193
I don't mean "deconstruction" as in "mean-spirited parody", I mean analytical.
Whatcha listening to?
>>60365193
>the ark work makes me feel like i'm getting fucking trolled without even being one the joke, blackened vaporwave, even with this discussion, could be done to be pleasant to the ear
COme on senpai the ark work is fun as fuck. It's so much fun. like jesus christ it is so much fun.
>>60365228
got my shit lined up for tonight. probably won't sleep so might as well make the most of it
>>60365210
oh, yeah then
i don't think it's deconstruction though because that would involve playing it somewhat realistic, normally deconstruction tends to be using common tropes but using them realistically
A good deconstruction of BM is DsO per example, it's no longer spoopy satanism, but strange, almost eldritch metaphysical satanism
My proposal would something more celebratory than analytical, but still with some analysis, that's (kind of) what i kept in mind
>French BM Edition
here's your soundtrack to bash arab heads to
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ct29Ne5ZIdY
>>60365193
And even concept-wise I think there's genuinely a common ground between vaporwave and black metal.
Like, when Frankjavcee described vaporwave as "you're like in a post-apocalyptic future and there's nothing to do and you're on drugs and you're gonna die and you're scavenging in a massive junkyard where all the vanity of our civilization is left to rot, and you find an old computer full of glitchy anime and 90s commercials."
I thought, fuck, that's actually kvlt as fuck.
And if you remember, Vaporwave originated from Everything is Terrible, which picked the creepiest videos possible. So whether you're working the evil creepy angle, or the nostalgic romantic ruin angle, you can find a common area between BM and VW.
>>60365015
There's a song about suicide bombing on this album.
and wouldn't you guess, it glorifies it. It's called Kamikaze.
>>60365345
sorry, I mean kmKz
>>60365228
French BM, of course.
It's ok, kinda overkill with the keyboards though.
>>60364985
one of the most overlooked bands of the genre
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Se2Oeg3GVCk
>>60365345
yeah i know, my version calls it Kmkz, it's fucking hilarious
The whole album is pretty interestingly thematically, it's the things that Diapsiquir doesn't like in the french society (i assume) but it takes them to huge extremes and glorifies it
this, on top of the music which is appropriately chaotic makes for a really fun album even with all the dissonance
>>60365228
Some Krieg, but after that album is over I'll listen to Xashtur
>>60365287
careful with that on here. mods on /mu/ are sjw pitchfork faggots
>>60365445
no, it's just that they don't like /pol/ shitheads derailing threads so they tend to get paranoid about it
Why haven't you listened to this yet?
>>60365466
i've been banned for saying nigga, lad
/mu/ mods are just fucking around anyways, as far as they're concerned /mu/ is a dead zone when it comes to moderating, much like /r9k/
>>60365466

>>60365492
>skitsystem
>black metal
>>60365545
for a board so vehemently against immigration, /pol/ sure is quick to migrate to other boards
>>60365545
let it die. Nuclear global war now.
>>60365621
/pol/ is a politics board, if the subject of politics is brought up this happens
that's like saying ''for a community that is so pro-immigration, Tumblr really hates immigrants (/pol/ per example) on their website''
>>60365686
I just hate politics so much, I'd love it if it they could keep to their own board. The subject never does any good
>>60365621
that's a mighty low level you've managed to step down to in a single post
this kneejerk reaction to ideas you don't agree with doesn't help any argument you have
>>60365732
what I don't agree with is the discussion of politics on a music board

>>60366183
Same. Dragged mentioned that they planned to make a sequel to Hatred For Mankind. Pretty excited for whenever that comes out. They seem to scratch an itch that no other band can reach for me.
>>60365293
The way vapourwave toes the line between goofily nostalgic and creepily uncanny is actually fantastic
>>60366214
same can be said about BM which is why i think it would be thematically very interesting (and maybe musically too) despite not being a big fan of vapormeme
I completely forgot it was November because I haven't been on /mu/ lately, the whole deus vult racewar now thing in France reminded me
Any critical BM releases in the last year or so? I grabbed Solefald, Kjeld, and Behemoth's stuff but that was about it
>>60366273
Schammasch and Kriegsmaschine had albums last year that were similar to and about as good as The Satanist

Leviathan - Scar Sighted
new Deafheaven (haven't listened to it, but it's supposedly good stuff)
new Mgla
that's my take as someone that doesn't keep track of BM but likes to do nbbmn.
>tfw hope DsO gets hit by a ray of inspiration coming from the event and new thoughts on the world
>>60366861
DsO isn't the right band for that.
Diapsiquir, the CNK, Iperyt, those are the ones that care about terrorism.
>>60366910
>Diapsiquir
I listened to A.N.T.I. earlier. That's a weird fucking record. Barely black metal at times. They get into a hiphop groove and sample vocals from Jedi Mind Tricks on the very first song. I wish I spoke french so I could understand the lyrics.
>>60366969
you aren't really missing out
it's all about how they're superior to their listeners because they got diarrhea after overdosing, molested kids and don't have any money.
What's going through his head right now /nbbmn/?
>>60366910
i think they either take all events and put them through their lens, or they don't care about anything at all other than the at the moment pursuit of truth/worship/whatever
i definitely don't think they'd look at it and feel any sort of way for anyone, but would see something of relevance in the the suffering/fear/affect on the world mind and/or how these things are connected to their concept of the devil
>>60366273
2 Panopticons
>>60367124
>and/or how these things are connected to their concept of the devil
that could make a cool concept EP
either way they should probably break up soon unless they can keep putting out good stuff that doesn't ruin their consistency and reputation

>creation from nothingness, is key to Romanticism, and to be derivative was the worst sin
>Not essential to Romanticism, but so widespread as to be normative, was a strong belief and interest in the importance of nature.
>Romantics were distrustful of the human world, and tended to believe that a close connection with nature was mentally and morally healthy.
>Romanticism embodied "a new and restless spirit, seeking violently to burst through old and cramping forms, a nervous preoccupation with perpetually changing inner states of consciousness, a longing for the unbounded and the indefinable, for perpetual movement and change, an effort to return to the forgotten sources of life, a passionate effort at self-assertion both individual and collective, a search after means of expressing an unappeasable yearning for unattainable goals."

>Striborg - This Suffocating Existence
I'd never listened to any of Striborg's output before, but I tried listening to this album the other day and thought it was downright fucking awful, and not in an "it's just not my cup of tea" kind of way.
I straight up have no idea how anyone can find this album enjoyable to listen to. It sounds like the noodlings of a teenage metalhead who's been taking guitar lessons for a month and has not a scratch of knowledge when it comes to music theory.
I've heard some bad metal over the couple of decades I've been listening, but that Striborg album really is a special kind of terrible.

yah i originally thought that too. but after watching omm i realized that he's actually a talented musician. I mean look how long he's been doing this stuff for. so that made me realize that the reason why it sounds so horribly dissonant and out of tune is because he composes it that way intentionally.
melodically it's the weirdest bm i've ever heard (other than jute gyte) so that keeps me interested. plus, atmospherically he's brilliant

Current 5x5. The bottom row is black/death/war so it's not really according to the rule, but I'm making a war metal demo as my nbbmn project. I'll upload it when it's done!
Favourites from the 5x5:
• Bathory - Bathory
• Negative Plane - Stained Glass Revelations
• Yellow Eyes - Hammer of Night
• Behemoth - Sventevith
• Drudkh - Blood In Our Wells (especially Furrows of Gods, that fucking solo)
>>60371588
>melodically it's the weirdest bm i've ever heard (other than jute gyte) so that keeps me interested. plus, atmospherically he's brilliant
Melody/atmosphere seems like a really weird dichotomy to push. They're clearly separate on a lot of levels, but unless you're just talking about production, melodies almost always contribute to any particular piece's atmosphere on some level.
Whatchu listening to f a m? Pic related
>tfw nbbmn could be nothing but summoning november and I wouldn't even mind.
>>60372601
> Drudkh - Blood In Our Wells (especially Furrows of Gods, that fucking solo)
Drudkh are the best fucking band. I really wish they'd try something a bit more straight and rock 'n' roll melodic black metal-ish though. Roman Saenko has touched on so many different styles of music in his career, and every single Drudkh melody or solo feels like it was handed down from the gods, so I really want to hear something where their appetite for melodies is a bit more upfront. Handful of Stars and Blood in Our Wells are their closest.
I dunno though, maybe the relative scarcity of things like guitar solos in Drudkh's music is what makes the instances where they actually do occur so special.

is there a more based man in the BM game right now than Fenriz?
>>60374381
Yes, but did they have access to a synth as their only instrument?
>>60374306
Yes, I never said Dauði Baldrs was a good album. Just that it's understandable, given the shift in style and the circumstances. Later Burzum albums in a similar style have been better.
Is there some good melodic bm like Disscetion but with harsher raw production?
>>60374457
varg wasnt allowed to have any instruments tho, thats why I said I saw other prisoners with instruments but not vargy poo
>>60374457
Meant to reply to >>60374331 instead of >>60374306, of course.
On a related note to both Varg and yesterday's Paris attacks, do you guys think Vargy is stocking up on ammo and explosives again? Will he retaliate, or is he not crazy enough?
>>60374477
Ah, we're trying to make the same point then. Sorry.
>>60374502
He's got kids man. He ain't doing shit unless kebab shows up no his doorstep.
>>60374543
So basically, yes to stocking up on weapons, no to actively fucking up some towelheads. Personally, I think he might have built a nuclear war shelter in his backyard, just in case. With an indoors playground for the kids.
>>60374543
>He ain't doing shit unless kebab shows up no his doorstep

>>60374260
I'd love to hear a re-recorded version of this album with proper instruments. It has great potential and good melodies but it's obviously completely ruined by the MIDI sound. Varg please, make a proper version of Dauði Baldrs.

>>60375881
Honestly I don't understand the appeal of NSBM.
Anyone wanna fill me in?
>>60375918
What's there to explain? It's black metal but with NS themes. If the music is good, then I'll listen to it. Why exactly do you need some sort of explaining? Do you also need me to explain the appeal of pagan black metal, satanic black metal, or DSBM?
>>60375714

So you're just triggered by NS lyrics? Ok then, I'm not sure whether black metal is the right kind of music for you if you can't handle something like that.
And to your original question: the appeal is the same that is with all types of black metal. Good music. I don't see what's there to explain.
>>60376015
Triggered? Nah man just a little confused. I don't actively despise it or anything.
>>60375981
it's a forefront for the music. artistic expression and what not. sing about what ever the fuck you want. you don't have to believe in it. and if you do, why get caught up about it?

Be smart. NSBM is another form of expression. Do you have to agree with the ideology? Is up to you. But think. Be smart. Dont follow anything just because it looks cool. Dont be like those clueless idiots who parade with Insignias and speak loudly of topics they dont know about just to get some cred. Apreciatte the music, the effort, separate the music from the ideology if it works for you. Dont make another peoples credo your own, seek your own credo

Stronghold is too uniformous, has less grandiose orchestrations, and doesn't have Mirdautas Vras and Land of the Dead.

well, i didn't imagine it'd sound anything as it actually sounds in the first place, so that might be the critical flaw

>>60377028
oh well this explains that
when I first listened to it I also didn't get what the hype was about (even though I still liked some parts of it a lot) because I was fresh off Blacklodge so the minimalist approach of Thorns put me off a bit.
You just gotta get into the right atmosphere I guess.
