At what age did you realize that Souvlaki was better than loveless? 19 here.

I actually had a friend who thought this.

I don't remember what age I was but I listened to Souvlaki first and by the time I got around to Loveless had no doubt that it was superior.

Hey /shugazi/ I’m bored so I listened to this song ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=alFvWDptUN4 [Open] ) like three times before deciding to write my thoughts on it.

So first off, there’s this intro that has these really gentle, almost ambient noises during the first few seconds before the vocals come in. And it actually take over 30 seconds before we hear the vocals come it so by that time I was feeling like the track has established this really subtle and subdued atmosphere. Then the vocals start in alone and there’s this really crystal-clear quality to it. I don’t know how else to explain it but fuckit the weird clarity in the vocals really helps add to the sunny mood all over this album. So when the rest of the instruments just go in all at once it totally breaks this mood and turns into this dance-shoegaze track for the rest of the song. And the guitar arrangements are great, the textures are shifting, and that coupled with the vocals is a serenely chaotic backdrop for a dance track. There are also bits where the vocals are reversed all throughout the song, and that shit gives this thing a whole really great psychedelic quality to it. Too bad it’s pretty much that same drum + guitar + vocal loop for like 6 minutes, with no other distinct sections to it. It doesn’t even end. It just stops, so what the fuck? Whatever. It’s pleasant anyway, but it’s still just a 6 minute loop.

>>60279548

If space to record is an issue you can find some pretty decent distortion and effect pedal plugins for Audacity, should easy to find large lists of them on google. I haven't found a great reverb option for it (I use Acoustica Beatcraft's reverb for everything, it's a drum machine but has some nice features for general production and the sound is just so lush and lovely) but aside from that it's an excellent way to quickly turn your guitar into a controlled explosion on the cheap and without disturbing the neighbors.

If not then just do what >>60279580 said, that's honestly it. Maybe add some chorus or other effects as desired but reverb + loud as fuck usually gets you where you need to go.

Their EP's the best 21st century shoegaze release for far. It's Loveless' little brother.

Which band is going to revive shoegaze?

>they are going strictly pop
I wonder if signing to a major label put any pressure on their songwriting process to try and work for more mainstream appeal
That being said, there was a song off Long Goodbye that was on their first demo, so they might have always had a penchant for straight J-pop and now they'd just incidentally rather do that instead
>>
>>60310114
>>60309288
I thought the same when both Fake World Wonderland and the Sakura ga Saku Mae Ni EP came out. Kinoko Teikoku seems to put their more shoegazey sounds in the back of their releases (in this case Donut, Virgin Suicide or You Outside My Window) but never really push them into public view the same way easier pop stuff like Tokyo or Chrono Stasis enjoyed.

It does feel like Universal's got a chokehold on them.
>>
>>60299028
Not anymore desu. I'm actually really worried about this release.
>>
>>60310670
Now that Tokyo Shoegazer's done and Kinoko Teikoku's gone full pop, who'll take over the new crown of Japanese shoegaze?
>>
What are some tracks or albums similar to Whirr - Meaningless?

>>
>>60310876
Boris, or maybe My Dead Girlfriend.
>>
>>60312378
Boris aren't really shoegaze though
If Shojoskip decides to put something new out or Oeil goes back to their sound on Urban Twilight then either of them could be a potential candidate but until then I think it's safe to say my dead girlfriend are the next to take the spot
