Because it's better than any other 'punk' album, probably due more its post-punk leanings than anything else. It's pulls off being catchy, ambitious and experimental at the same time, which hardly any albums (in any genre) actually achieve.

Stretching the definition of punk with posts like that is part of the reason every punk thread devolves into a 'thats not punk' argument
Of course how far the definition of punk can be stretched is also what makes it an interesting genre - if you define it to rigorously it was dead by 1984 if not earlier.

even Husker Du wasn't classic punk in my book. Heavily punk influenced, sure, but they expanded on it and made classic records, but I wouldn't call them classic punk - for that I think of tThe Ramones, The Clash, The Damned, Sex Pistols, Germs, Dead Kenedys, Crass

folk punk would rank probably after metal crossover for me. not sure about anarcho punk as most of the stuff i really like from it is more post-punk sounding.

I haven't come across much punk records in 2015. The only good thing is the Red Death - Permanent Exile so far. Mischief Brew and Red Dons are going to release new records this spring, and both will most likely become my AOTYs.

I actually didn't like this album at all. People told me I would enjoy it because I liked Zen Arcade but this just didn't do much for me.
I honestly dislike folk punk in general. I feel like it combines the worst aspects of both genres.
