http://pitchfork.com/news/58556-kanye-west-says-new-album-is-80-percent-done-plots-surprise-release/

>Kanye West Says New Album is 80 Percent Done, Plots Surprise Release

>According to West, the album is 80% finished, and will be comprised of "bars, songs, [and] cookout music that just feels good". He explained, "My last album was a protest to music, I was like 'I'm gonna take my ball and go home'...This album is embracing the music, joy. Being of service to the people. I just hope people like it and enjoy it."

>Other topics touched upon in the interview include Disney ("Thank you for Frozen," said West)

>West also explained his new single "Wolves", and teased news of a pending Young Thug collaboration:
>>
If it's 80% done, how'd he rap the whole thing to Seth Rogen in a limo?
>>
It's over Kanye, Drake's the new GOAT. No one cares anymore
>>
>surprise release

Fuck. Yes. Kanye is literally the most creative person alive currently making music.

>tfw it could drop any random day
>tfw only Kanye
>>
> tfw when it drops before Jenny Death
>>
>>53744649
having lyrics to a full album of songs =/= having a 100% finished album
>>
>>53744649
Well he's not going to play a synth (or whatever that was) like for 5 minutes on Runaway
>>
> This album is embracing the music, joy. Being of service to the people. I just hope people like it and enjoy it.

It's over. He's abandoned the artistry and is just going to pander to the masses. RIP to the greatest run of albums from any rapper.
>>
>>53744717

>tfw new Kanye and Jenny Death on the same day
>>
>>53744649
Marketin and/or he can't make up his mind and scraps ideas left and right.
>>
>>53744729
ya i knew this was coming
he only cares about fashion now
>>
>>53744694

drake has been in this game for so long and has dropped nothing interesting. Wow but he tries though.

Seriously kanye, release this album, HIP hop is in such a bad state right now.
>>
>>53744614
god this album is going to suck so hard
>>
All a ploy

He's changing his image to garner more attention now that his last gimmick is run through

>>
>>53744729
Malik Yusef said in an interview that the album was "avant garde", whatever that's supposed to mean
>>
>>53744786
It means jack shit.
>>
>>53744694
Drake has been more commercially successful than Kanye for a while now, actually Kanye has never been the no.1 most popular rapper ever in his career.

This album is gonna be fucking trash

this fucking guy

Worried about this but he also said in the interview that while he likes Cruel Summer he felt that he was just staying with the pack with it so who knows
>>
>>53744717
>tfw when it is Jenny Death
>>
This new album is going to be Kanye's "Songs in the Key of Life."

Get fucking hype, you guys.

LOL FAG

you're a retard

go smack your own balls

For someone who watched it, what did he say about Disney?

it really, really sounds like he's phoning it in with this album.

what do i know though, it'll probably be a masterpiece.

>>
This is a really nice interview.

Kanye's really nice as of late.

Stuff's weird.
>>
Kanye West is the David Bowie of our generation.
>>
>>53745345
Honestly not sure but I'm assuming having them as a platform to promote whatever else he has planned like with Adidas and his sneakers
>>
>>53745366
Yeah, I'd say either him or Bjork.
>>
>>53745366
and this is going to be his Lodger
>>
>>53745365
If you watch older interviews where he's actually leveled headed he makes some good points. I think between Adidas, wife, and kid he's mellowed out a bit
>>
>>53744733
what would you listen to first?
>>
Jenny Death will get released as soon as Kanye drops his new album.
>>
>>53745398
yeah, maybe part of the problem was Yeezus' reception. too divisive
>>
>>53745366
Kanye's better than Bowie
>>
>>53745429
In the interview he said he made it with the "kid who takes the ball home" type of mind
i.e. you won't let me design shit or whatever I'm bouncing fuck you guys. He also said Bound 2 was the only "music" on it whatever that means
>>
>>53745461
Well Bound 2 was purposefully indicative of his past, soul-ish work so I can at least understand what he means by that.
>>
how are all day and wolves on the same album? that doesn't make any sense
>>
>>53745461
I think he just means it wore more soul-ish, layered, and accessible, as compared to the industrial, experimental, and aggressive feel of the rest of the tracks.
>>
>>53745499
>>53745473
Yeah that makes sense I just took it as he thought the other stuff was crap I guess.
>>

in my heart he is the number one

>>
>>53744649
>>53744697
pretty sure in the actual interview he didnt say anything about release date or how far done the album is. He did say he was working on ALL DAY with Q-tip and Vic

>>53745316
He said Frozen was like a nanny for North
>>
>>53744799
Not even during Graduation? Arguably the peak of his popularity?
>>
>>53745366
Kanye West doesn't have multiple critically panned albums though
>>
1. Wolves feat. Vic Mensa & Sia [6:12]
2. Crucifix [5:33]
>Kanye entertains the delusion that he is the messiah
3. Whip Hand [7:34]
>Kind of a sequel to New Slaves. He declares himself as the slave master instead of the enslaved, and boasts about how he now has control over what people wear, how they speak and what they hear in the charts.
4. Panthers feat. Jay Z [6:06]
>Kanye with the help of Jay Z imagine an ideal America had the Civil Rights movement been trampled by the more extremist movements, such as the Black Panthers and the Nation of Islam. Kanye believes a United States run for the black race would rid him of his personal troubles with the paparazzi and the media and make his family safe
5. Angel feat. Paul McCartney [5:20]
>Basically a soppy love letter to Kim, though I doubt he was with her yet when he wrote this; there is no allusion to her or anything about her in the lyrics. It plays more like a prayer to God in the second half, sounds like Kanye asking God to send him an 'angel' to carry him away from the 'demons' of the media and press
6. Alpha feat. Rick Ross, Jay Z, Chief Keef, Pusha T [11:52]
>Kanye starts off with his life since Yeezus. His new power is making him a threat to the powers that be, as they fear he may reveal the truth. He also talks about persecution from those around him, some of whom were his close friends, who began to turn against him apparently out of envy of his power, but, in one of the more profound lyrics in the album, he feels helpless at trying to balance keeping his wealth and power and keeping those close to him, but he's got his fellow rappers in the game instead. Kanye ends the track by reprising Crucifix and claiming he will sacrifice himself to free America from the hands of the oppressors that cause him and his fellow black Americans so much grief.
7. Only One feat. Paul McCartney [4:43]
8. Omega [2:40]
>Kanye ends the album by saying he wants to get rid of world inequality and change the world for the better
>>
>>53745124
But that's my favorite Kanye album
>>
>>53745674
I mean he's still best-selling. Just not THE best-selling.
He was #3 on iTunes for the past decade.
>>
>>53745685
from the looks of it he's just about to enter that phase of his career
>>
>>53745685
yet
>>
>>53745660
He said 80% and it's gonna be a surprise release
>>
>>53745269
I'm guessing you haven't listened to it. Which is good! You'll be really surprised by it.
>>
>>53745707
>Whip Hand
>Panthers
>Angel
>soppy love letter to kim
>Alpha
(that line up sounds good tho)
>Omega

yeah, ok then :^)
>>
>>53745720
who are the first two? I assume lady gaga is one of them.
>>
>>53745800
I know I read #3 somewhere but it's weird, the article I found says #9.
1. Rihanna (47,571,000)
2. Black Eyed Peas (42,405,000)
3. Eminem (42,290,000)
4. Lady Gaga (42,078,000)
5. Taylor Swift (41,821,000)
6. Katy Perry (37,620,00)
7. Lil Wayne (36,788,000)
8. Beyonce (30,439,000)
9. Kanye West (30,242,000)
10. Britney Spears (28,665,000)
>>
>>53745847
>can't even outsell beyonce
damn
>>
>>53745707

That's believable even if it's ridiculous
>>
>>53745880
Beyonce's not nearly as controversial though. Honestly surprises me how close he is to her.
>>
>>53745847
>only half of the best selling artists are black

fucking racist music industry
>>
>>53745913
maybe because beyonce can actually sing and makes really good music that captures the zeitgeist
>>
>>53745847
>10. Britney Spears (28,665,000)
Who knew she'd released anything since 2001?
>>
i really hope this doesn't flop

just look at his face in the OP, how can you want that wonderful man to fail?
>>
>>53746013
It might critically flop, but it won't commercially flop.
>>
>>53744614
Even he knows yeezus was garbage
>>
It's always interesting seeing Kanye talk because of how he's into symbolism. Kim as a symbol of powerful women, for instance.
>>
I'm new to Kanye; I've only heard College Dropout and Yeezus. Which album of his will the new album resemble? Place your bets here
>>
>>53746078
808s
>>
>>53746078
graduation
>>
>>53746078
It won't really be any one record. I'd say 808's+Yeezus; dark yet poppy.
>>
>>53746078
it sounds like it's all over the map

it'll be closer to 808's than anything, but probably some Graduation and watch the throne in there as well, albeit minus the sampling
>>
>>53745124
>>53745269
holy shit this guy lmao
>>
>>53744614
>This album is embracing the music, joy. Being of service to the people. I just hope people like it and enjoy it."

You'd think this would mean an album full of bangers, a bunch of golddigger-styled tracks and shit like that.

Wolves doesn't sound like a song for the people in that sense.

This isn't a judgment of quality, I just don't think Kanye has any idea what he's talking about.
>>
>>53746564
he once described blood on the leaves as a basketball anthem or something, so i think it's safe to say he has no idea how to talk about his music
>>
>pending Young Thug collaboration

KWxYT WHEN
>>
>>53746597
I can see where he's coming from with that, just the beat though
>>
>>53746597

Blood on the Leaves as a basketball anthem. It's decided, Kanye is fucking trolling us.
>>
>yeah i love the ghetto. i'm from chicago, my wife's got a big ass....

lmao even if he's been putting out some average music lately, ye is one of my favorite people ever
>>
>>53746564
maybe he doesn't know what the word 'joy' means.
>>
>>53744697
Suck My dick you balls
>>
>>53744614
Ah, kanye, delusional as ever
>>
>>53746564
He's basically describing Graduation while the two tracks released for this album so far are the complete opposite of that pop-heavy style.
>>
just like he ripped off death grips for his last joint, this time ye heard kendrick's ''i'' and decided, shit nigga best make a whole album like this

what a fucking hack
>>
>>53747219
>he ripped off death grips

808s is fucking great.
>>
>>53747219
nice b8 m8
>>
>>53747219
Yeezus was on the direct opposite spectrum of death grips.
>>
>last album was a protest to music

What does that even mean?
>>
>>53747524
maybe he means mainstream music or something
>>
>>53747524
It means that many of the songs were bad on purpose. Like how there are those indie comedies that do lame/bad jokes "on purpose" so that they can't get shit-talked for being just as shitty as mainstream. Hipsterific.
>>
>>53747521

except the video for blk skinhead was a direct rip-off of I've got the fever dg video
>>
>>53747524

it was bad intentionally anon
>>
>>53746078

808s will a drake vibe
>>
>>53747571

His whole discography must be a protest to music then.
>>
>>53747588
talking about the SOUND nigga, the all of the lights music video was a rip off of the movie enter the void that doesn't mean the score to that movie and mbdtf have anything in common. Grow a dick.
>>
>>53747654
yeah, except for this new album which is about joy. Because if the sound of wolves can be described in one word it's "joy".

Kanye has lost his goddamn mind.

>>53747571
>>53747609
>>53747774
I think that's a bit naive of an interpretation. It was against commercialism and mainstream music. It was against corporatism. It wasn't bad MUSIC, it was bad MAINSTREAM music. Everything about it was anti corporate and mainstream.
>>
>>53746564
I know I'm a pleb because Kanye making an album full of bangers would make me super excited.
>>
>>53744729

>implying songs like Gold Digger, Good Life, All of the Lights, Slow Jamz, and countless others weren't pandering to the masses
>>
>>53747823
You're right. This could be a good thing. If only Kanye's music ever reflected how he described it. Wolves is not the kind of track he seems to think it is based on this interview. Another Good Life or Gold Digger would kill.
>>
>>53747609

I don't think that's what he means. I doubt Kanye thinks anything he makes is bad or would ever try to make an ironic album. It was given high scores in reviews and everyone was saying it was good on /mu/ and other music forums, and now he's saying it was bad. He's full of shit, he probably didn't even understand the album himself because his team of ghost writers and ghost producers made it for him, so he makes shit up about it being an ironic album.
>>
Wolves is better than any track off yeezus so I'm not too worried,

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6rfv5Pb6R4

Only One was kind of lame but it's only one track, assuming this album is reasonable length and not super short like Yeezus it could easily make up for that one.
>>
>>53747908
Again, a naive interpretation.
See >>53747812
Kanye thinks of music often in terms of the mainstream stuff.
>>
>>53747908
He needs to drop Rick Rubin, the SNL version of Blk Skinhead was superior. Rubin is an old bitch. Yeezus was garbage.
>>
>>53747928
I think maybe you get an erection when you see Kanye's face and that is clouding your judgement.
>>
>>53747849

Mensa's chorus on Wolves is pretty poppy though, I imagine it would get a fair amount of radio play. But he really does need another anthemic banger, which is presumably going to be All Day.
>>
>>53747920
totally forgot about this song really brings me a lot of that 2008 nostalgia. It's really timeless.
