Comes in handy for threads like these
>>49275581
the first one is called Tragedy and it's really weird and has a lot of field recording-ish stuff.
the second one is called ekstasis and it's my personal favorite. the type of music is sort of a middle ground between loud city song and tragedy

Obviously I could have just rated a bunch of albums I haven't heard but I'm massively autistic and could never do that.
>>49276549
Doesn't sound right. Sometimes it takes me weeks before I realize an album's potential. I remember several albums where I didn't think much of them on the first listen but had some song from it stuck in my head a week later. A lot of my favorite albums were slow burners that took a while to get used to.
rest is privilege [*]
>>49276593
how do you listen to 600 albums a year and listen to such crap

>>49276549
>>49276593

I feel like listening to that many albums devalues the music. You're treating it as a commodity to collect rather than allowing it to fully set in.
>>49276619
Yeah there are a few like that, and I can often spot them straight away. There were a few albums that I didn't like at first but I thought I could after a while so I put them on regularly
I've started going back into the ones that I liked but only heard once or twice recently and yeah there are some fantastic records there, so I'm sure there are some that are "slow burners", but if I get too worried about finding them my autism goes mad.
>>49276629
opinions
>>49275736
Yes this was perfect.
>>49276698
>opinions
no really you avoided every single good album last year, and im not talking about the p4k selection that 90% of this thread has picked out
>>49276661
Except it's not as if I go bragging on the internet because that's a moronic thing to do. I mentioned it in this thread to give perspective to the coincidence that the first album I heard of the year was the best. I feel listening to that much allows me to give equal weight to underground bands and popular artists, and I can use that to spread those musicians.
I'm getting my own website for my reviews soon if that means anything, so I don't just do this for listening.
Chelsea Wolfe in second place. Maybe Darkside, Jon Hopkins or Blood Orange in third
>>49276722
>tim heck
>dark ambient
>>49276725
>avoided every single good album
I'm sure I did hear them, I just didn't like them.
Because of opinions.
>>49276742
you did brag though. see here:
>This was the first 2013 album I heard and it was still my favourite nearly 600 albums later.
that way be too subtle for even you to realize it but if you dont need to say it and you say it anyways, thats bragging
absolutely loved this.
Realize most of /mu/ is gonna shit on this one.
>>49276761
It's ambient and it has a dark feel to it...
I guess I should go with drone / ambient or something.
>>49276786
Is listening to a lot of music really grounds for bragging? I have no social life and you guys think I'm proud of that?
>>49275453
>in hell is where she waits for me
>their beloved absentee
mmmm
>>49276786
it sounded like hyperbole to me, he probably listened to a lot of albums, and said 600 kinda like we say " a million albums later" or something. But yeah if you've actually listened to 600 between now and last year you have not taken the time to appreciate anything from 2013 through 2014
Kishi Bashi
>>49276803
I can tell you, it definitely is not dark ambient.
>>49276822
mallgoths pls go
>>49276888
Oh well...
Both me and you will just have to live with it.
I ain't changing it.
>>49276868
>if you listen to music a lot, you must not like music
Dude just because you need to listen to something 20 times to get it doesn't mean I have to. According to RYM it's 695 from 2013 and 375 from this year so far. I'm sure at least 60% of those are single-listens, and even my favourite recent albums won't have got more than 10 listens, but that is all I need to appreciate it.
>>49276887
Wrong year
>>49277011
You're right. I'm embarrassed.
My 2013 top 5:
1. Queens of the Stone Age - ...Like Clockwork
2. Candy Claws - Ceres and Calypso in the Deep Time
3. Jon Hopkins - Immunity
4. There Will Be Fireworks - The Dark, Dark Bright
5. The World is a Beautiful Place... - Whenever, If Ever
>>49275875

>All Seeing Hand
damn didn't even know anyone knew them. Their stuff is a bit 2deep4me but their live show is fuckin killer
>>49277296
he's right though
>>49277357
They showed up relatively often in 2013 sharethreads
>>49277400
Ok right I don't touch sharethreads. They have something of a cult following here but that's just because they have a mental live set
>>49277397
if you can't express your opinion on why it's a bad album without empty buzzwords like "p4k drone" then i have no reason to take you seriously
Well, not really. It's like a 7/10 overall - the album's way too short and the dynamic range is compressed as fuck - but actually seeing a decent album from this band for the first time in 20 years was a nice surprise for someone who really enjoys early QR. Kicking Tate out really was the best thing to ever happen to this band.
>>49276244
No kidding, I had to actually buy it since there weren't any DL links when it came out.
>>49276301
This isn't me btw, but it's nice to know there's a link to DL it now. Probably would've uploaded it to mega if I wasn't at work.
I really liked Love Now by Mean Lady

>>49278800

>>49278936

>>49278968
Seriously though, really? I'm not saying it was really really bad but I definitely wouldn't say it's even in the top 20 albums last year. Everything they do with Asa is just so boring.
>>49279071
To be honest, I like the last three tracks more than the other two. Also there wasn't anything else that really caught my attention for 2013, that's why I lurk this thread.
>>49278814
I used to like these guys a lot when I was pleb but that EP was 2cheesy4me despite perfect production
2013 was a great year though. Om-Unit's Threads was probably personal aoty, followed by:
>R Plus Seven
>Immunity
>Ceres & Calypso in the Deep Time
>Tomorrow's Harvest
>Chance of Rain

agree. specially good for idm/bloops
>>49280421
I'm a big King Krule fan so I quite enjoyed his features on the album. The album is more sentimental to me and is why it's my AOTY as opposed to it being by far the most musically impressive album of 2013.
>>49275548
At least you're honest.
>>49280271
Yes, it's this one
>>49279515
Oh well never mind

>>49277286
Your'e cool guys, my AOTY would be that, Coal by Leprous or pic related
>>49280617
Nice, they were both in my top 10. I was really disappointed in Coal at first because it wasn't as good as Bilateral or TPS, but I dig it now.
Check out some of the other shit in my list if you're into that sort of prog - I'd especially recommend Blindead's latest album to someone who likes Leprous and Riverside

I'm assuming everyone, but I own 7 out of my top 10 now.
>>49280694
Oh, I know you, I have regualrly seen you posting here and your RYM reviews are pretty great, the Kim Dotcom and AAL one made me laugh hard
>>49280702
That one was also great, I also liked new Amplifier and Spock's Beard, but was disappointed by Karnivool and TesseracT.
>>49280763

>>49280763
I pirated Steven Wilson, but got his CD together with QOTSA for Christmas

>>49280779
>>49280852

I ask not out of self righteousness. I'm just wondering how it would be possible for someone, without pirating, to have an actually sophisticated view of the year in music.

>>49282002
No, no, you've got it all wrong.
Russian Mind > Replica > Betrayed in the Octagon > Returnal > Zones Without People > Commissions I > R Plus Seven
>>49282053
Don't get me wrong, I love his synth stuff, but the actual list is:
R + 7 > Replica > Returnal = Russian Mind > Betrayed in the Octagon > Commisions > Memory Vague > Zones Without People
Might have fucked it up slightly it hard to remember how each of the synth albums sounded because they were pretty similar, but still good tho.
>>49282002
if it follows up what he did with pic related he'll achieve legendary status. very hard for an artist to deliver 4 almost perfect and incredibly memorable releases in a row.
