Going back to as regular a week as any can be said to be for her, what kinds of tasks does Twilight Sparkle have mapped out? Another pass through the library? Does the library in the castle serve all Ponyville like Golden Oaks did? It's a big of a walk comparatively, but she'd probably be no less eager to help a prospective reader. Some dignitaries have come by on occasion but it's still not the hub for that sort of political activity. Ideally she'd throw more open parties like for Hearth's Warming, but it's some work getting everything decorated and she does like some quiet, too.
Well, she's got whatever's necessary on a list, for sure.

I suppose it's something of a pride thing. I mean personally I've waited for years to see if the Elements of Harmony would add a proverbial Seventh Ranger. When Sunset was made such a figure in Equestria Girls, I was rather excited about it, and I can only imagine others were as well. For me, it's hard to see Glimmer as anything but a pretender to the role.
There's also the fact that I always thought Glimmer worked better as an antagonist, her ideology being an interesting element to her character. I feel like redeeming Sunset gave her character more depth, whereas Starlight's redemption took away from her character. I'd much preferred to see her kicking around as a bad guy for a little longer.
But that's just my opinion.

Sometimes the heart isn't bound by logic. And even though it's highly improbable, I always hoped Sunset might show up in the main series. If only for a special event. But as you say, they are in different series, and as such have different roles in said series.
Starlight is something of a seventh ranger in fim whereas Sunset has assumed the role of leader in eqg, leaving Scilight in the role of the seventh.
Still, it's fun to compare and contrast them. Especially with people who don't share my views.
