Yes, gloves can themselves be a risk just like long hair, baggy clothes, rings, watches, etc. but unless you have a good reason not to wear them, you should always wear some sort of hand protection. But I know, you're a big man who ain't no pansy who is extra careful and that there's no way YOU could be the one missing a finger. And when working with hazardous chemicals there really isn't a reason not to wear gloves of some kind to protect you (and a respirator if it calls for one. I know a bunch of old auto body painters who never wore masks while painting and now they are livin the fun life of having shitty lungs). But who am I to tell you to be safe. I'm not your mommy, and if your high school shop class teacher couldn't get you to listen then I doubt you will to some random fuck on the Internet. Try not to get too many booboos out there sweetie.

I do however protect myself against regular skin contact with coolant by using specialized hand lotion which repels it. (too much exposure to coolant can give you an allergy which would make it almost impossible to continue pursuing that career)

It's not a CNC, but a regular NC mill so I have to change the tools by hand.
the collet is form-fit in the machine head and held up by hydraulic while the milling tool is force-fit in the collet
to change a tool you hold the collet where it obviously doesn't cut you, use the hydraulic to release it.
then you carry it over to a special vice and use a spanner to release the force on the milling tool
as it was loose I picked it up with my fingers and tried to pull it out, business as usual
however, somehow it got wedged into something and I cut myself.
I quickly went to clean it with water, told my boss, got first aided, and then got sent to the hospital where the cut was cleaned, because if some coolant would have gotten in, it would have been a big problem.
After that I continued to work.
But my index finger does not like typing and I have to substitute the middle one as my index finger right now.
so yeah, now you know
and now you make me feel dirty for dramaqueening such a relatively small cut
