Because the episode that featured it was unfitting for so big an event. I kind of expected a huge event like Tirek breaking out or some evil friendahip-eating being to come out or a remnant of Nightmare Moon and with all the Princesses KOed or sidelined and Twilight summoning all her Friendship Power supercharging her to defeat the evil or redeem him/her/it and become a Princess, or an epic journey, alone, where she uses her friendship to win over the supposed bad guys and teaches the magic of friendship by the end.
Not that really minute musical gauntlet. I kind of expected more.

But you still have Spike who we don't know how powerful he is and how powerful things can get. He has been doing a lot of heroics, so she definitely isn't so powerful to not need a sidekick. Dragons are tough enough to get her worried.
Also you're posting the comics which are terrible.
Her magic hasn't gotten noticeably more powerful than when she was a unicorn, it is essentially up to each writer how tough she is.
Finally any of them can be buffed at any time.

She displayed those things without needing to fix her own fuck-up and being rewarded for it. Her friends were also a very large part of her success, but they're made to sound more like cobblestone-paved path to Twilight's castle.
Twilight herself also never really aspired for something like that (it seemed to be hinted that she was looking into becoming a Wizard like Starswirl in learning transmutation, gravity, and other odd spells), like Rarity wanting her boutiques in other cities and to become popular in the fashion world, or Rainbow Dash wanting to become a Wonderbolt and doing what she could to get in.
In a way, its kinda disappointing that the "Main" main character had the same level of aspirations of that of Pinkie/Fluttershy/AJ while the aforementioned two have had far more overarching goals to work towards. Twilight had to be given hers.

That's an awful message, and also one of the reasons I disliked the whole premise of MMC and how one's destiny is tied to their talent.

Poor implementation, mostly. Her ascension to princess was poorly cramped into a single episode and felt like a very stressed decision made to sell toys. After seeing it, a great deal of us were worried for the future of the show.
The hate was also a matter of principle, I think. The show being as good as it is despite its demographic is usually credited to Faust being a contrarian who stray away from shitty "little girl show" tropes with a passion. So when the current writers forces the main protagonist into a pretty princess role, it rubbed people the wrong way. Again, worry for the future of the show.
