a major problem is a lot of the rules are well within gray areas. why are some fetish threads pruned while others are not? why are some get threads and posts removed while others are not? why is some shitposting allowed while other times its not?
it all seems to come down to who is modding, and how they feel personally. that can be fine if they have a lot of common sense, but thats still putting too much reliance on an unbiased mod, and thats unrealistic to expect.

There are generally two types of prompt threads:
First are the cancer/meme tier ones (HI ANON or IWTCIRD)- these threads generally either die quickly, or at least provided entertainment for their life. Ultimately no real harm came from them and it let shitposters have their fun (a containment within our containment board if you will). Whenever a new episode come out, mlp general as well as a plethora of smaller threads discussing finer points of the episode (Such as new characters, character development, animation changes, music, character dynamics, possible foreshadowing, etc) would end up 404ing these types of 'prompt' threads. At least until discussion dies down: because really, you can only talk about a 22 minute episode for so long.
Sure there were a lot of cancer/meme tier 'prompt' threads, but they were more or less harmless and add to the boards culture just as much as show discussion. If you start eating away at what makes /mlp/ /mlp/ then you lose the essence of why we're all here in the first place.
The other prompt threads are the ones that spawned the stories you mentioned, as well as many others. I can only speak for myself, but I wouldn't have writefagged without the occasional prompt catching my interest.
Writers that have a clear story in mind usually post it to whatever general it fits under. But there is an equally important portion of the writers here that instead of coming with their story ready, look to the actual people here for inspiration. Prompts have purpose in /mlp/ by letting potential writers take a look at what the people (some of them at least) in the board want to read about. These prompt threads encourage a symbiotic relationship between writer and reader, where analysis and opinions can be voiced as the piece is being written. Then once the story is finished, it 404s into oblivion, freeing up another space for more content.

In /mlp/ there are different types of threads: generals, show discussion, character threads, show staff/news threads and prompt threads.
Almost all if those threads have followers that will give content and keep the thread bumped, this to avoid the thread being archived.
Also there are two types of prompt threads: Meme/shitposting threads ("HI ANON"), and normal promot threads ("Hey anon, could you help me bath spike" or shit like that).
Meme tier threads have a short life, and get archived a few hours after being created, most of the time with 10-20 replies.
Meanwhile, normal prompt threads will either:
a)Get a good number of followers and 1-2 writefags, allowing them to create more content and become a long lasting story or a general.
b)Get a little number of followers and no writefag, those threads normally get archived after a few hours.
The high number of active threads (Show discussion, CYOAs, generals and good prompts) are constantly making content or being bumped, this keeps them alive until post limit. Prompt threads that produce content will be constantly bumped and alive, meanwhile meme prompt threads will fall to page 10 and get archived in a few hours, also the creation of new threads will kill the failed ones, allowing the board to produce new content, all of this is a automatic filter the board already has.
If you seriously think that the new moderation politics are good, you are a idiot, the board already does what the mods are trying to do, even better.
