So, as far as character creation, how do players usually feel about a limited sort? Really, the only thing I'd be cemented on for the character (for story reasons) would be the species; otherwise, I can roll with everything else. Would that limitation be a big bother?

There's also the problem of meta knowledge between characters and the QM dragging it along. It's an okay idea, but doesn't work as a CYOA.

I found objections to it all over, but most of them are specific to my personal taste. I don't like pitting players against each other, I don't like the idea of players sabotaging each other by suggesting stupid ideas or not trying to improve other player's ideas that could use tweaking, and I don't like the idea of a quest that's main goal is "kill stuff".
Again, those are mostly all personal opinions. I'm sure there are a contingent of cyoa players who will love it. I have absolutely no interest in it myself, though.

Well, I don't really have an idea beyond that. The thought just stemmed from a few common themes I've noticed regardinghumansin Equestria- notably, that Anon and EqG both carry a lot of negative connotations, but the idea of *a* human trying to conquer language and culture barriers in order to interact with an alien species is something that doesn't get such vehement responses. Some people even regard the idea with intrigue.
If I had to pick a genre, I guess it'd be a kind of sci-fi/fantasy hybrid, like a story of first contact with an alien society. Except, instead of super high-tech aliens and weird otherworldly creatures, it'd be magical horses and mythological creatures. There might even be a self-aware sort of humor to be found, or maybe something deeper, regarding how this totally alien world is somehow home to creatures from human mythology and even the current biosphere of Earth.
Sadly, I don't think I have the writefagging skills to do such a story justice. I feel like it could be one of our most engaging CYOA's because of how identifiable a scared human in a foreign world could be as a character, and how the bonds said human forms might mirror how the players once came to love the little pones themselves. But my writing is stiff and repetitive. All I can offer is an idea, and the hope that some brave and talented Anon might make something great out of it.
