It's not just a show, it's an advertisement for a 30 year old brand.
Sure, G4 will probably end in a few years, but then G5'll happen. It might not be the same, but given the success of G4, I doubt the creators would let the "adult" audience go by just making another kid's show.

"The ride never ends." isn't even a meme anymore when it concerns MLP. It's more than a cartoon, it's one of the big internet phenomena of the 2010's. It went from "just a little girl's toy franchise" to one of Hasbro's main sources of revenue next to Transformers.
MLP:FiM is at the very least lasting another two years with another season next year and a movie the year after. S7 is within expectations as well.
Around then though we'll be passing the 7 year mark, and we'll be over the treshold of 2010's target demographic: the little girls that grew up with the first season and the first G4 toys will then be well in their teens, and Hasbro might start wondering whether the existing, developed characters and world are adequately accessable to the new generation.
But I don't see them abandoning the FiM world and cast so quickly, as they'd lose out on a lot of brand awareness and part of the adult fandom. A G4.5 (say, something like timeskip with adultt CMC) feauring cameos of the G4 cast would make more sense. Either way, there will always be more pony content unless a future installment bombs really, really badly.

We're seeing an influential senior storybaorder leaving as well as AKR, one of the main worldbuilding writers.
I hope their replacements will be adequate. The episodes by new writers in S5 were the worse of the season.

20 years or more since I first saw Ryoko & I still rewatch the old shows and think about her to this day. Just because a show goes off the air doesn't mean the ride is over. The characters will still live on in your heart.
