***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

Our next Group Build!

Field Repair

Basically what this means is that rather than the mobile suit being fresh out of a factory, it's quite the opposite. Whether it's trudging through dense jungles or dodging debris in asteroid belts, your mobile suit has seen some better days.
You've been out in the field for quite a long time now, nearly half a year of active duty in the front lines and your personal mobile suit's pretty banged up. What's worse is the fact that there isn't a maintenance bay within several thousand kilometers of your local area that's capable of making any major repairs. Your unit's engineering crew has resorted to patch work and jury-rigging to keep your machine operational. Stray fire might have crippled its legs and arms or otherwise dealt considerable damage to a mobile suit's systems meanwhile some units have simply lost bits of armor and panels to the elements and have been forced to patch weld metal sheets over the exposed inner workings.
In any case it's beaten to hell but somehow you and your team have somehow kept it chugging along and now command's ordered all units operating in your theatre to fall back to form a defensive line against the enemy offensive.

I'm really limited to acrylic because I don't have any open space to use spray cans and it's still too cold out for me to spray anything. Thanks anyway though!
>>
>>13852909
Yeah, the weather isn't too good right now and acrylics kind of suck for painting. So I'm not really sure what to say, but using Tamiya acrylics might be a good start

I just got a HG Zaku 2 thunderbolt from a friend and I'm still a bit new to gunpla, should I paint some parts like the mono eye and lenses?

Progress shot. Anybody else partway though something they're having fun with?

>>13853038
It's really whatever you're comfortable with. What kind of minis have you painted? How well do *you* feel you painted them? Depending, you may be skilled enough to lay into it and do some more complex work.

The mono eye and it's lenses, depending on your skill set and personal standards, may be something you want to hold off on painting until you're more confident in your skills - at the moment, you seem like you're not so sure of yourself yet.
>>
>>13852787
Ignore that faggot; you are, just people tend to use colors that act as darker versions of the main color for panel lining, so it looks like the gunpla is shadowed instead of traced. For red, you'd want to use brown instead of black. For white, grey.

Also, go over your gunpla after panel lining with an eraser to clean up any stray marks

Take a look through the guide for tips.
>>
>>13853069
Mostly stuff for tabletop like Skeletons, sisters of battle, Thousand Sons, and Dark Angels.

Honestly, all I want to do is just paint the lens just a solid color, possibly doing some lens effect and not something crazy like free handing.
>>
>>13853105
When it comes to gunpla, you can replace the lenses with crystals.

i know when it comes to /tg/ they may look good. but replacing the material close to lens is even better

What do you mean?
So let's say it's the OYW since that would be the easiest, you can be some random zaku assigned to some insignificant theater like Africa as a glorified guard where resupplies are infrequent but guerrilla forces keep fucking up your shit. You're gonna need to patch up your crap in between supply drops with whatever you have before the tribals show up again to throw grenades at your face.
On the other side, it can be a super secret Feddie prototype gundam that had escaped from an attack on the site where it was being developed and has to make it's way on land to another friendly installation while being hounded by zeek ground forces. Keep in mind the secret base is thousands of miles away from any other real friendly military encampment so the only things you have to repair your suit are pieces you can salvage off the zeon forces you destroy in skirmishes.

that a mini cooper that you're driving in? My dad used to have one of those, def a fun car.

I think it would looks cool with a titans style color scheme (since that looks good on almost anything imo) so it would be very dark blue or black chest, navy blue body, then red feet and yellow accents in other places

OR

I could also see it looking cool with a tan/biege desert style paint scheme. I think it's a cool idea that you put physical weapons (for the most part? I don''t know what your headcanon is with your custom) but it made me think of it as a "Gundam X Physical" like the Virtue Physical from 00 (pic related is what I'm referring to). I think it would also be real cool with that sort of style.

but yeah, that flat coat looks very glossy
what was the name of the comex product specifically? and its price?
>>
>>13854656
It's less glossy IRL, but I think it's also because I didn't shake the can a lot, or it's an effect of the spoon because the top part is really flat.

The primer is aerocomex primario gris, and the top coats are transparente and transparente mate from aerocomex as well, the prize is $46.5 for a 400ml can.

The primer is also available in rust and white, think I'm gonna stick with this primer and try the topcoat in a finished model.

Not really a thing.

People here want other people to improve; that's all it really boils down to. If you actually try and fuck up, that's fine as long as you're not red-cliff bad. If you are, you should kill yourself. What people dislike is the fags who suck at snapbuilding, don't make an effort, and then come and show off their kits as if there's anything worth looking at.

Because you're literally doing gunpla wrong when you just snapfag. If you dont take the time to truly put the model together instead of hamhanding it and calling it a day, dont fucking bother with it. Just buy a figure or something if you're just going to leave it as is out of the box.

But anon, 1/100 is the worst scale. Its meant for hamhanded fucks who cant deal with the intricacies of the superior 1/144. 1/144 scales so much better with other things, doesnt take up unnecessary space and is cheaper and has more variety. MG is a blight upon Gunpla and has no reason to exist. If you want ig buy a PG otherwise stick with 1/144
>>
>>13855586
Original poster here, I just really enjoy the process of building something. Its very soothing to take a few hours to carefully cut, sand, and top coat (with maybe some line painting where there should be stickers) a model. It reminds me of when I when younger and spent countless hours building and playing with bionicles and zoids. Plus unlike figures, when you look at the displayed models you can go "I built that."
>>
>>13855618
Find me an HG build a finicky as 3.0's elbows and knees.
>>
If gunpla was not meant to be snapbuilt, it would require glue, have waterslide transfers instead of foil stickers, and would be molded in one color of plastic.
End of argument.
Sure you can put more time and effort into them. But does Bandai intend for you to do so? NOPE.
>>
>>13855626
>more parts = better!
How is that even relevent anon? They'll both look the same on the outside at the end of the day, and you can easily make an HG look multitudes better than an MG out of box if you spend even a little time on it.

That's not entirely true though. Even in the plug in anime snapfags are shunned as shown in Try. They're clearly meant so that if you're incapable of anything else, a snapfit could look decent but they're meant to be worked on.
>>
>>13855621
I'm just a snapfag but the problem is when people keep posting their snapbuilds to show to everybody but don't want any criticism. There is no reason to post your build here unless you want feedback since we can just google images for any snap builds. It's just like showing everybody that you can follow the instructions and produce the same result most can. Worse is that they post kits that aren't denubbed or are poorly made and get butthurt that it gets pointed out. They use these threads as their personal blogs and get offended when criticized. Sure its fine if you just want to snapfit but don't post it unless there is a reason for you to do so.

>>
>>13855746
>Anyone have tips on diorama building?
If you have never built a diorama, keep it simple. besides that, i recommend googling for some guides. Not "gunpla diorama" though, don't use Gundam in your searches. Look for train modeling guides and warhammer 40k terrain guides. Look at "cool mini or not" and look for the very best dioramas, then the artists who make them. Google those artists, look for how-to's by them.
Once you have soaked up some game, then start looking at gunpla dios, and how you can apply the techniques to gunpla.
>>
>>13855746
You should look into Fine Scale Modeler.

I like your style of advice giving. Theres a lot that can be made from junk like Styrofoam and cardboard, so just go thru your recycling bin. Its free and great to practice your skills/ideas on.

I would add that keeping the scale of the diorama as consistant as possible. In my own research I've found that dioramas with inconsistent scale look bad, regardless of the level of detail.

Hello /m/, how are you? So I just finished building a stock MG banshee (fucking nub marks are a bitch to get out on it) and now I'm looking at doing a lighting mod for it and its sister unit the Unicorn. However, I'm not sure how to mount the LEDs, let alone the battery placement and wiring, for the inner frame. Is there someone that documented the process somewhere, or do I have to just fumble my way through this? I've seen other kits that people added the lights in that look great. One in particular that somehow added lights into the vibro claws and shield. I've no idea how they manage multiple LEDs on such a low voltage, so I'm not sure on how to go about this. Do you have any suggestions on parts I may need, or tutorial locations I can reference for something like this? Pic is the Banshee in it's current state.

I think it's a kind of acrylic, I can't check since mine dried up and I threw them away some time ago.
The issue is that yes, you probably do need to thin them out. Pressing the tip in to get them in a small palette and dripping some water in, followed by mixing, is how it should probably be done. Unfortunately, I didn't learn about the magic of thinning paints until after I had used up my markers, as well as after I spent an entire pot of Citadel paint painting a toy Clonetrooper blue with green highlights.
