Shin Godzilla Concept Art, in case people haven't seen.
>>
>>14484559
I'm looking forward to it.
I only really liked the very first Godzilla movie and so far it looks like they're trying to make something in the same vein.
The new Godzilla design is a little bit goofy compared to the American versions but I really like the fact that it looks mutilated and monstrous, it's the best way to reactivate the nuclear psychosis that fueled the first movie. Especially now that we've got those stories of people literally melting after being irradiated in the Fukushima disaster.
And to be fair every Godzilla design that came from Toho was a little goofy, but here it's played in its advantage because it gives it a grotesque look instead of just a silly look.

I'm really hoping that it leans more towards horror than the other movies. It'd be cool to see the effects of his nuclear breath on the human body up close.

I'm putting my money on

>LOL I said the BEAM isnt shown i didn't say he doesn't GLOW purple!!
>>
>>14484878
Just to clarify: People SPECULATE that the beam while be purple, because the new trailer shows his mouth and fins glowing purple.

Nobody's saying that they actually showed a purple beam so this guy's just being a pedantic chucklefuck.
>>
>>14484716
Really? I find them to be...distracting at best and comical at worst.

I guess I'm used to big eyed Godzilla. But they went overboard with that in the past too.

Unless I'm wrong, The reason for him only showing one eye in both of those Drawings, is because Anno originally wanted Shin Godzilla is only have one eye.

Illegally, of course.

Officially, maybe a couple of regions will get it. No chance in hell it's gonna get anything close to a global release, there's just no market for this sort of thing.

There've been rumors and a lot of BS talk about a potential American release, but nothing of certainty. Only thing I know is that it will likely be released on some platform in Germany, because apparently that's one of the few non-Japan countries where there's a minimal market for Godzilla movies.

New rumors from tokumei. Note that another user has provided an easier to read translation and I'll be using that:

-An Earthquake at Tokyo bay causing leaking somewhere.

-The Japanese Government thinks it's a Volcano, but it's actually a premature Godzilla(Tadpole)

-The Red Water has a awful smell, but the red water is actually Godzilla's Blood. The people inspecting the water are wearing hazard gear.

-Grown Godzilla(?) arrives at Kamakura's shore.

-Godzilla's atomic breath, possibly spreads or has a lingering effect, alongside the beam.

-The "twist" is that Godzilla is replicating himself. (Kaiju A(Tadpole)/B(Clonezilla)

-Godzilla's body while trying to replicate, shows different faces(Godzzila) in his body(?).

-During Godzilla's attack, he kills the PM of Japan(?).

-Godzilla sleeps at Tokyo Station for 2 weeks.

-A plan to use a train with a bomb to crash into Godzilla.

-Possible Train that crashed into Godzilla, has a poison to "kill' Godzilla.
>>
This goji design is bad and the movie will suck. I have foretold.

At this point, who knows.
Anno might be wanting to play Shin Godzilla safe, so that there is a possibility for him returning or not being seen as "The Guy Who ruined Godzilla".

If the self replicating part of Godzilla is true, that could mean that there is a possibility for Shin Godzilla to get a sequel, and maybe something more on the lines of a traditional Godzilla movie, or "Raids Again".

Imagine:
>Shin Godzilla Dies in the movie.
>Shin Godzilla 2.
>A New Godzilla is born and looks more "Healed".
>Another "Godzilla" is also born, but instead of growing, it's in a state of breaking down.
>Shin Hedorah is born.
>>
>>14486600
Kek'd for double dubs, and SHin Hedorah sounds baller as all hell.

More to the point, I do have faith in Anno as a director, it's just that I don't have any clue where is state of mind is right now. The Rebuild movies must be hell to work on even if it gave him another opportunity to shit on the dumb side of the eva fandom, but right now he's living every fan's dream with this movie.

On a side note we do know Godzilla will have multiple forms due to the bandai figure lists, but I have a hard time imagining even they would stretch a "tadpole" form to the usual 16.5 scale. What kid would want a baby Godzilla if it's just as tall as the adult?
>>
>>14486659
>>14486600
Addendum: Anno described Shin as being a "Super-Sized Godzilla" waaaaaaaay back in April of last year. While 118 meters makes him the largest Godzilla yet, that's hardly enough of a boost to justify the size hype.

Could "monster B" be Shin Godzilla once he's finished regenerating/growing/eating reactors/god only knows what?

One of the original leakers mentioned that Godzilla's forms were:
>"Tadpole"(some translations were "Small Fish", "Small Fry")
>A Quadrupedal form.
>"Godzilla" form.
Some key notes from the same leaker was that the "Tadpole"/Quadrupedal is in the tunnels of Tokyo Station, and attacks a Bullet train/Train.
-
It's stylized, like how the figures for Baby Godzilla(Heisei/Blue) was out of scale for the rest of the Heisei Vinyls.
(If True)People keep mentioning the Tadpole as if it will be a "Tadpole with Godzilla's face". It will likely look more on the lines of a Long and bloated Eel, with Godzilla's features.
-
If what was posted earlier is true, then I'm getting GINO/98 vibes from the whole "Tokyo Station" being a resting area for Godzilla.
>>
>>14486754
The idea of a tadpole also makes it sound like a knockoff of The Host.
>>
>>14486754
>If what was posted earlier is true, then I'm getting GINO/98 vibes from the whole "Tokyo Station" being a resting area for Godzilla.

And that kills the rumor for me, no Japanese director would take inspiration from 98 on any level.
>>
>>14486771
It does but it would make more sense biologically since Goji's an aquatic creature. It wouldn't make sense for an amphibious monster to start off looking like a shrunken down version of its grown up form.

Rumors have stated that Shin Godzilla is a "Ultimate" creature, a what if all animals on the planet was formed into one, and is a "Life absorbing lifeform".

What if:
>Shin Godzilla is actually Female.
>Shin Godzilla's behavior and function is based off a Surinam Toad.
>Godzilla's body is "ravaged", because of her young leaching off her body for nutrition.
>Her Whole body is used as a "Mobile Fortress" for her eggs.
>The "Many faces" during the supposed, "Self replication" scene, is actually her young budding out of her.
>Godzilla stops at Tokyo Station after not being able to return to the ocean in time. Using Tokyo Station as a "Nest".

Right, since there is nothing original in terms of writing/story/etc, so worrying about a Godzilla movie being "Original" is stupid.

I'd like to hold onto hope that this movie will be good. Both Toho and Hideaki Anno need this to succeed. And I'd like to think they've put forth an honest effort.

The term "shin" has multiple interpretations. God, true, and new. Given Anno's background, I'm thinking ShinGoji will be depicted as some form of deity. Anno seems to be looking towards Gojira (1954) for inspiration more than anything else and we all should be familiar with the messages of said film. Just taken one step forward this time. If the deity theory is correct, I think it will be handled in a similar fashion to the forest spirits of Princess Mononoke. Some natural entity is corrupted and driven to wrath by the recklessness of humanity.

But we also know that Shin Gojira will address the military and government, so I'm left wondering how all these elements could come together in the end.
>>
>>14487172
American military forces enter the situation without a clear understanding of what's going on and fuck things up even more?
>>
>>14486524
>Sounds too straightforward for Anno

Not really. Eva is like the only non straightforward thing he made, I don't know why people keep expecting this movie to be some total mindfuck when he's more than likely just going to make the kaiju movies he's dreamed of his entire career.

Oh and I live in Japan and saw the new trailer and he glows purple.

The trailer is being shown before ALL movies in ALL theatres. Godzilla Resurgence will have a two hour runtime.
>>
I just saw the new trailer before the FFXV movie at Shinjuku Wald 9. The purple glow is true. The "American" agent says that Godzilla is his DOD codename, and there's later a scene with gojira written in kanji where someone says it means "avatar of god" in an obscure Japanese dialect.

The fins, the red light below his skin, and the inside of his mouth all glow purple, and his roar sounds the same as usual.
>>
>>14488958
I'd like to add: The purple glow scene comes after a cut to black with the roar and is the last scene in the trailer, and is its own pretty long cut. It's clearly NOT some sort of in between where he switches from red to purple below going blue as usual taken out of context, it's a constant bright Fanta Grape purple.
>>
>>14489019
In the next scene, he'll sprout a purple halo and start flying to the tune of an tonally inappropriate kids' song.

Food for thought: what would everyone like to see in a new solo Mothra or Rodan movie?

I would rather have a new Mothra movie with Rodan as the villain.

Fuck that noise. They should finally do Godzilla vs. Rodan. Poor Rodan has never gotten to be a headliner in a fight movie, he's also either the secondary enemy or a sidekick. Even Anguirus got to be the main opponent in Raids Again!
>>
>>14489425
You, Me and the remaining 500 kaijuphiles in US would love it - the mainstream would, at best - laugh at it.
Let's discuss realistic things, guys - a giant butterfly and a giant pterosaur won't carry a a 10+ mil JP production, nowadays, nevermind a 100+++ million western movie.
It will never, EVER happen, no matter what mental gymnastics you employ.

>It's 2016 guys, don't you know you need a jewwood approved budget of six gorrillion to be a good movie?!

Gamera 3 had a budget of under 10 million and that movie cures cancer. If you want to watch a 100M+ waste of money, go watch brainless shit like independence day or jurassic world.
>>
>>14489594
The movies aren't being made out of goodness of their hearts as a charity, you know?
A movie gotta pay for itself and hopefully make a profit, hardcore fanbase just won't do - it needs to be carried into the green by the "normies".
And believe me Mothra and Rodan aren't the western world idea of HYPE.
If the plebs aren't expected by the studio to stampede over to the cinema to watch it - it ain't gonna get made, son.
>>
>>14489594
"500" Kaiju fans and their ideas on how they want a movie to be, isn't enough to make a movie successful financially. Companies depend of the Normies to be stupid, eat up what they put on screen, and the companies just endure whatever criticism the fanbase gives them.

>>14489609
Because they have "over the top Effects!" and stupid shit like that.
A lot of the issue is that most actors they hire, cost way more than some of the major props, CG, or etc.
>>
>>14489620
Godzilla is a known name, but it's not a name that's going to print money.

TMNT/Transformers and it's sequels were garbage, but they are a brand(s) that Americans know, and will be more willing to go to the theater to watch.
>>
>>14489080
Damn!! I guess there goes my hope for a cam copy. I remember getting most of my 90s Godzilla movies as cam versions ( complete w people getting up and walking in front of the screen) on tape. I guess they don't even have the theater owner/friends hook ups either. My ex knew a theater manager in Chicago back in the day. We attended a Attack of the Clones advance screening. After the show she was chatting with him, while he had people setting up tripods in the projection booth for him to run it again later as a "quality check".
>>
>>14489620
>>14489624
>To hell with artistic integrity, shekels are the only thing that matters in cinema.

It must be awfully cold living in a world where the validity of a film is determined solely by it's budget and popularity.

Further more, why are you so insistent on a new rodan or mothra movie being made for americans? Are you one of those clueless fucks that thinks the japanese should just stop making monster movies because '14 didn't bomb like gino?
>>
>>14489784
>mental gymnastics
>>
>>14489640
As much as it sucks, this rings true. The genre has too much shit sticking to it that masses wouldn't swallow so easily. Technically the same is true for TMNT, TF and others, but those are more mainstream, western, and they have been way more accessible and relevant even before their latest movies came out.

Which is why Legendary will have to be cautious with expanding their franchise, and the plebs will have to be eased into kaijushit very carefully. And you also have to take international marketability into account. A lot of movies achieve their greatest success in foreign markets, and as luck would have it, monster movies in general and Godzilla in particular have never really taken off outside the US and Japan (and maybe Germany? I don't know). But all the negative stereotypes and misconceptions surrounding the genre *have* seeped into global public consciousness. As discussed at length in previous threads, even the 2014 movie's heavily mixed worldwide reception shows that this hasn't changed, that Godzilla remains a spotty brand name.

If Resurgence doesn't fail, Toho can still continue playing things safe and calmly churn out their usual low-budget stuff to keep the brand alive for Japan and for the fans, but as history has shown, that's not a very sustainable strategy, and it just throws the brand further into irrelevance.

Whenever the Japanese decide to devote some big effort or Americans manage to make a good film, Godzilla will become a more profitable brand. Until then, things will probably just continue as they have. Irregular periods of activity and inactivity.

And is Godzilla supposed to be a like a God Warrior from Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind?

I just think the Japanese needed a break. And they need time to get back on board again. Toho ran the genre into the ground between 1991-2004 with mediocre movie after mediocre movie. Now Toho is about to revive the Godzilla series once more. As long as they produce good movies and don't over-saturate the market, kaiju movies can probably make a comeback.

I don't know, as much as I love toku, maybe it was a Showa thing. The gap between Japanese special effects and Hollywood special effects wasn't so big on the 60s and 70s, arguably toku was more appealing from a kids perspective for the sense of wonder and being more action driven but nowadays it's too big.
>>
>>14489865
Oh man the original, that's nostalgic. They're now up to the third or fourth iteration of that.

Camera guy really caught on, he has action figures and gacha keychains and they invite the dancer who plays him to variety shows. I wouldn't be surprised if the thing's had some effect on people recording shit in cinemas.
>>
>>14489868
It's not that, the Japanese are ridiculously image-conscious and young people generally never watch movies (or go to yakiniku or yakitori places, or go to amusement parks, etc.) on their own: These are seen as group activities and must be done in groups, people who go alone are seen as losers with no friends.

In addition to that tokusatsu movies are seen as for children and otaku, nonsense for losers, and nobody dares to invite friends to go watch that stuff together because everyone would go "THIS FUCKING OTAKU LOSER WANTS TO WATCH A GODZILLA MOVIE HAHAHAHAHAHA".

This shit is so bad that it even applies to some extent (though not as much as with Japanese tokusatsu) to American superhero movies.
>>
>>14489868
The lackluster Heisei Godzilla films were highly successful alongside American blockbusters like Jurassic Park and T2 in the 90s. It's not impossible to revive Godzilla. Toho just needs to slow down and dedicate the proper amount of time to produce the best films possible. Stop rushing them out on an annual basis and carelessly exploiting people's nostalgia for the Showa Era.
>>
>>14489904
Only three even came out in America. Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah shit the bed with its evil future American villains and Godzilla heroically saving Imperial Japanese soldiers in WW2, so their US distributor dropped the franchise rather than face the backlash from it.

The rest didn't get US releases until years later, and didn't go to theaters. Godzilla 2000 was the first Japanese Godzilla movie to get a US theatrical release since Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah, and also the last.

So you're relying on the crux of financial viability when I've already pointed out that smaller budgets can lead to more impressive movies than 100 million dumpsters, and thus trying to shift the argument from the possibility of a new movie for mothra and rodan to one of a baseline budget required for any new monster movie.

Same fagging, arguing about money instead of art... this all sounds so familiar...wait, what's that in the distance!

Kaiju Eiga is dead in Japan, Shin Gojira was only greenlit because of the moderate success of G14 - which only happened because of the power of sheckels and great marketting behind it. Toho wants a piece of that pie, but would be content with Godzilla staying dead, had G14 flopped.
There wasn't really any NOTABLE entry into the genre since Gamera the Brave a decade ago, which other Anon already explained to you the sociological why's behind it.
Also the genre is a shitshow, there wasn't really, baring Kaneko's offerings, a trully good entry - since the damn eighties.

You should be excited that the genre has the chance to escape to crucible of shit that Japan became, with its made-by-commitee movies and recent boner for Ps2 tier CGI.
Instead, you're thinking of reasons why it should remain the same, not getting any wide recognition and finally dying - because after this resurgence(pardon the pun), if it fades again - it won't float back up.

In the eyes of Godzilla fans, Yes.
In the eyes of Average Joes, No.

The the Average Joe's eyes:
>Vs King Ghidorah is a Godzilla movie with a confusing time travel plot.
>Vs Destroyah is a Godzilla movie where Godzilla dies.
>Godzilla 2000 is a Godzilla movie.
See a pattern?

There hasn't been another Godzilla movie that broke out of the "It's a Godzilla movie" stigma, and nothing that could be classed as a Generally good/wonderful movie in the eyes of critics, public, and etc.

Godzilla has the same issue as Animation does in the Oscars, it's looked down upon as a lesser medium, but where animation does try and exceeds it's boundaries, Godzilla does not.

You are aware that Anno was attached to Godzilla Resurgence and working on his script long before Legendary released even the first piece of footage for G14, right? Toho approached him in January of 2013. And you also know that prior to the release of Final Wars Toho said there wouldn't be another Godzilla film for at least ten years, right?

I'll readily admit Toho's offerings in recent years have been pretty disappointing overall. But don't act the genre is dead forever in Japan or that G14 was some significant improvement over the Heisei/Millennium movies outside of visual effects.

GMK? It's literally the most critically and financially successful Godzilla film of the Millennium Era. And Gojira (1954) is thought of highly in the eyes of most, fans and non-fans alike.

Compare the evolution of the Animation genre(as a whole) to the Giant Monster genre.

The Giant Monster genre has barely changed aside from updated effects and does nothing new with the genre to keep it alive, interesting, and or marketable.

>>14490447
G14 was supposed to come out back in 2012, and was being worked on way before that.
The 2012 script is nearly the same movie, but with a some major and minor changes.

>"I'll readily admit Toho's offerings in recent years have been pretty disappointing overall. But don't act the genre is dead forever in Japan or that G14 was some significant improvement over the Heisei/Millennium movies outside of visual effects."

GMK featured Godzilla, Mothra, Baragon, and Ghidorah all together for the first time since Showa, so I wonder why it made more money than the previous movies with:
>The New UFO monster at the end.
>New Giant Dragonfly.

GMK still didn't brake out of the mold, It did something different, but overall was the same as the other movies before, just with more quality.

Gojira is a masterpiece because it wasn't a "Giant Monster" movie, it just had a Giant monster in it. It was more about the struggles caused by the stupidity of human and the destruction caused by the Nuclear bomb, in the form of Godzilla.
>>
>>14490501
>GMK featured Godzilla, Mothra, Baragon, and Ghidorah all together for the first time since Showa
I like how you included Baragon as a significant selling point, even when Toho didn't.

Did Baragon ever even appear in the same frame as Mothra and Ghidorah? Godzilla just blew him up early in the movie and that was it for him. I guess it's still better than what he got in Destroy All Monsters.

Poor Baragon. At least you're better off than Varan.

Four monsters in a movie is better than three, plus Baragon was featured on the Poster.

Baragon in GMK was the "Young and Hotheaded brother" out of the three Guardians, instead of waiting for help, he rushed out to take Godzilla on his own.

Varan is deader than dead at this point.
>>
>>14490462
GMK's great (though again let down somewhat by Toho's meddling and the short production time), but it's still "just another low budget Godzilla flick with a weird title" as far as most people are concerned. One entry in the genre that achieved brief notability among Japanese audiences (who went to theaters to see that Hamtaro movie and stayed for GMK) but has since been buried by later films. It did well enough to keep the Millennium series going, but not enough to guarantee the franchise any sort of mainstream fame or staying power -- although that is for the most part not GMK's fault, but the fault of the later movies.
>>
>>14490517
>Varan is deader than dead at this point
Which is too bad, because the Varan and Anguirus that were intended to be in GMK instead of Mothra and Ghidorah were awesome looking.
>>
>>14490501
Are you suggesting a monster movie can never be great? And GMK is easily one of the better films in the entire franchise and more ambitious than anything immediately surrounding it, tackling Japan's desire to forget the atrocities of World War II. The characters feel like a throwback to the ones from the Golden Age. With a larger budget and more time, Kaneko probably could have delivered something far greater. But working under Toho's restrictions, what he managed to do deserves praise.
>>
>>14490529

I feel like you're talking out of your ass, buddy. GMK was a legitimate hit and had extended runs in Japan due to it's critical acclaim. Kaneko's kaiju efforts are recognized in Japan. He received the Nihon SF Taisho Award for Gamera 2 which is NUTS.

You seem to be blaming the lack of quality of the Millennium films for their box office performances, but there were larger issues at hand. The Japanese film industry completely died during that period, and even their golden child directors (Miike, Kitano, and Kurosawa) couldn't get work. American productions were killing domestic products, which is why Toho turned to Kitamara, who was primed to break out in Hollywood at the time.
>>
>>14490547
To a degree, yes.
GMK is one of my favorite Godzilla movies, and it's way up there in the ranks in comparison to lets say, Vs Mothra, but while it's a step in the right direction, it's not enough to brake the mold and free itself.
If GMK was in the place of Final Wars, then it would've done way better than what it even done, but with it being succeeded by the Kiryu Saga and the Shlock film, Final Wars, The imagine is just as tainted as ever.

A Majority of this Problem, is Toho's fault.

During the development of Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee(The first fighting game) and Save The Earth(Sequel), Pipeworks had to fight Toho over the issue of Godzilla's Player 2/3/4 Color filter.

Along with the rest of the monsters, if Player 1 and 2 played as just say, Godzilla, then P1 would look normal, while P2 would have a Red/Blue/or green tint on their Godzilla.
Toho threw a massive fit and demanded that they changed this, because it could've "Damaged the Godzilla image".
I believe the Color filters stayed, but you get the point of how bad Toho is.

You never made it far in debate club, did you?
>>
>>14490563
I'm putting the blame more on how, after GMK proved that there's still merit left in the franchise that can bring in crowds, instead of building on what made it stand out from its ilk and aiming higher, Toho went back to tired formulas and low-risk filmmaking with the following two films. Although I admit I liked the first Kiryu movie, and it was a huge step forward compared to stuff like Megaguirus, it felt so lackluster coming off the heels of GMK. Tokyo SOS even more so in spite of how much potential their concepts had. GMK, even with Toho meddling with the monster characters, expanded on its core ideas and had some genuine effort put into its story, themes and message. The Kiryu movies had some neat ideas but barely did anything with them. Tokyo SOS feels like it gives up halfway through.

I know things weren't going too well behind the scenes, the low budgets and dwindling consumer interest certainly didn't help, and Kaneko wasn't quite the yes-man that Toho wanted. But I feel they could have made better business (or at the very least better films) by not getting rid of him, giving him more freedom/time, or if they had simply tried to replicate what made GMK so well-liked. After all, the Gamera movies showed little money can amount to much if someone actually puts effort into their work, so they could have pulled it off with limited budgets.

The following movies with their lazy writing just pushed the franchise further down the hill, culminating in Toho scrambling to try and make something more ambitious with FW.

Do people really not expect Resurgence to be any good? We don't even know much about it. What all do we have? Two minutes of random footage and a vague synopsis? Something about Godzilla being the perfect organism or godlike. The film will contain an important message of some sort and politics (both international and domestic) will be involved. It has a longer production time than most Godzilla films and hundreds of celebrities will be making appearances. There is a fair amount of heavyweight talent working behind the scenes. We know the tagline: Fiction (Godzilla) vs Japan (Reality). There's the running time, which will be 1 hour and 58 minutes. At worst feelings should be neutral. Not outright pessimism or disgust.

Satomi Ishihara said Godzilla would be extremely violent and Shinji Higuchi said there will be plenty of dynamic non-stop action starting at the 1 hour and 10 minute mark. This should calm the fears of those who don't think we'll be seeing enough Godzilla. And unlike G14, it seems the focus will be devoted completely to the titular character.

Anno is looking to Gojira (1954) for guidance and he usually writes interesting characters. Can you name one project written or directed by Hideaki Anno that didn't have some engaging hook?

What is the problem? Are some of you so bothered by Godzilla's design that you have absolutely no faith in the film itself? Did we get an in-universe explanation for the monster's physical appearance in Biollante or G2000? It's not like Godzilla is unrecognizable.
>>
>>14492640
The design is only half the problem for some people; what we're really worrying about is how drastic this film will be for Godzilla's character and background. We're scared that he'll have a new origin that's as bizarre as his design.

The abstractness and strangeness of this take on Godzilla is intimidating and makes people fear that maybe it will be too different from our idea of Godzilla. The fact that it's confirmed this Godzilla will have a new origin and this is its first time appearing in this universe gives an impression that the origin will be changed too much, and be too far off from what we're familiar with.

But, like you said, we don't know much about it. All we have are rumors such as >>14485773

I just want an actually scary Godzilla film, god dammit, and with a design that doesn't try too hard (though is definitely original and interesting).

You know what I would've done? I'd have made a retelling of the original 1954, or at least from a different perspective. Hell, I'd even keep it in black and white.

Why is a changed origin such a frightening concept? I think one thing this franchise desperately needs is a refreshing change of pace, something that keeps the "spirit" intact but isn't too bogged down by what has come before.

The way I see it, G98 got it completely wrong by changing both the origin and the meaning of the character way too much. G14 (as well as the scrapped 80s and 94 American movies) were more or less faithful to Godzilla on the surface, but they mostly did away with the "horrors of man's hubris" part of his origin, diminishing his allegorical meaning, focusing more on the "force of nature" part. If Anno's gang can keep all the basic aspects, I don't mind if they change some details around. At least as long as they don't go overboard with re-imagining him. I admit some of the rumored ideas sound off-putting and can easily be badly executed on film.

What I'm actually afraid of is that the movie's plot and message might be unfocused, the tone uneven and that the human parts boring. This franchise needs a clear vision with a firm grasp on how to make it work, and not more of the "well, we tried, maybe we'll do better next time" mentality that's been plaguing it for so long.
>>
>>14493933
That's the thing though, from what people's reactions to the rumors are, they get a 1998 vibe. I'm not saying your wrong, just that people seem concerned about that.
>>
>>14493955
That's a valid concern, but I sometimes feel Gojifans (like most other autistic fandoms in general) get way too scared of anything different, and are way too quick to compare any sort of change to their eternal boogeyman, Godzilla 1998, regardless of what director or writer is at helm.

But maybe I'm only saying that because my perception is warped. I'm not one of those old-school fanatics who are quick to cry "not muh Goji" every time the brand takes a new direction. I got into the franchise through the Hanna-Barbera show and G98, so I was always more lenient with what I can accept as Godzilla (not saying that I regard either that cartoon or that movie as good reinventions, though).

The reason his healing factor isn't working is because he got fucked hard by the bomb

It'd be nice if it was a sequel to the first film, but, we don't know if it will be or if it'll be an origin movie.

That's true. A company called Splendid Film already owns the rights in Germany. They're probably bringing it to theatres in the big cities.

> Isn't this godzillas origin is that he's the first Godzilla come back from that oxygen bombing.

Incorrect. Shin Gojira is a complete reboot. It'll be the first time Godzilla, or any monster for that matter, appears in this universe. No connections to any previous film.

>>14492750
>>14493933

There has been a lot of talk about gods surrounding this film's production. I think Godzilla's depiction will be comparable to the Giant God Warriors of Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. His origin will probably be connected to the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster instead of the American nuclear weapons testing back in the 50s (like the original Godzilla). Some rumors have mentioned Godzilla absorbing life, so perhaps Godzilla is an amalgamation of various lifeforms corrupted by radiation. He is something that shouldn't exist.

Maybe that's the real reason why they made the tail so ridiculously long: at some point it actually splits off from Godzilla's body entirely and becomes a separate organism.

Some rumors have mentioned Godzilla absorbing life, so perhaps Godzilla is an amalgamation of various lifeforms corrupted by radiation. He is something that shouldn't exist.

....Rumor has it that they dropping the whole nuclear thing altogether due to said incident being too close to home (not like the Castle Bravo incident that started the Franchise in the first place). Then again, they knew that Godzilla represent the fear of a nuclear holocaust, so they have to leave it in. Also if that's the case, then I would like to see what Chernobyl Godzilla's like.

Cast and crew have specifically mentioned Fukushima. One of the actors said the film will be a cathartic experience. And for all the talk about Gojira (1954), it would be cowardly not to address the recent nuclear disaster in some form. Unless forced to remain silent about it, I don't see Anno avoiding the subject.

Should this evolution in special effects worry or excite us? And although Higuchi wasn't directly in charge of the effects for Attack on Titan, I imagine he did have to sign off on them.

Attack on Titan - 2015
Godzilla Resurgence - 2016

The VFX for Attack on Titan weren't bad (Except for the 3DMG thing, that shit was atrocious), but the titans looked really cool.
The camera work for the battles was shit though.

Also, it seems like the King Kong that Godzilla is going to fight is really big.
>>
>>14501219
I think Kong in the new Kong is 100 feet tall. Still nothing next to Godzilla but still the biggest Kong has ever been. We'll see if he gets growth spurt when Godzilla vs Kong comes out.

>Gormaru Island discovered DVD & Bluray Data Magazine has a new still featuring the anticipated helicopter battle. In an IMAX interview, Shinji Higuchi mentioned there will be lots of aerial shots with attack choppers playing a major role. He also teases a massive event an hour into the movie, but doesn't leave any bread crumbs as to what that might be.
