***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, dont make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

Does anyone here have the HG Turn-A? I'm thinking of picking it up since I have an Amazon gift card to burn, but the reviews aren't very in-depth.
Is it any good?

It's going to be the second kit I've ever bought.

The shoulders are rather terrible. As though they are the shoulders from a kit 10 years older.

Other than that it's alright. Just alright. Looks good enough when completed.

All the images I've seen look like its got a lot panel done to it, but I don't have anything to panel line with.

If the shoulders are really that bad, I might just get Char's Zaku from The Origin to be a companion for my RX-78-2
>>
>>14477394

You can panel line with a 0.5 mechanical pencil if it really comes down to it. And yeah, you will be panel lining a lot on the Turn A. My advice would be to get something else, save your time and money until you've polished your skills some more, and just get the MG, which does a better job at doing the Turn A justice.

The Origin Zaku is an amazing kit and highly recommended, with its singular flaw being that you don't get a regular Zaku machinegun for it.

New to painting and it's a lot of fun but it was so slow with just one stand, so decided to expand my production line with two new boxes. Good way to recycle boxes, but the holes in the HLJ boxes were too big for my gatorclip wooden poles, had too do a bottom with silver tape.

>>
>>14477417
Careful to not let those pieces touch each other.
>>
>>14477421
>>14477432
Don't worry, the two new boxes were once one high that was too high and the poles would detach from the clips sometimes, so when the pieces dried they were on two boxes far away from each other, only put them like that to be able to cut the other box in half.
>>
>>14477417
>>14477421
>>14477432
Why does amount of boxes matter to painting time? Just because you can set it up as parts to be painted -> parts being painted currently -? drying parts and move them as necessary between holding the clip in your hands?
>>
>>14477439
I can let more pieces dry concurrently, don't want to take them away from the clips until I'm done with them, especially on this current project where I'm experimenting with masking and need to do the same piece at least 4-5 times
>>
>>14477452
How long do you wait between coats? And what paint brand? I've only started withTamiya acrylics and info from others could help.
>>
>>14477461
I use Tamiya spray cans and am like I said pretty new so I'm not the best to give advice. But from reading these threads for a long while and looking up internet resources I think that the common wisedom is wait 24 for the paint to completley dry and settle, even if it feels dry on the surface it still has to settle. But that just might be for when doing your own rations with an airbrush. But it can't hurt. That's why I really wanted to increase my production line while giving pieces the time they need to cure.
>>
>>14477475
I meant using airbrush and between coats, not the final curing time. From what I read it was basically "spray a part/spoon, spray all the others, and by the time you loop back around you will be good for another layer". I take it that should be roughly an hour or so between coats?

http://hlj.com/product/YLSPPC-N08
I did the method of taping hella box flaps together, and I had tons of boxes before too, but you need so many to get a good enough surface area to use for many parts. This thing is shallow, so good if you have short sticks, and very wide, and I find I mostly have a need for more sticks than I do space, and I work primarily with MGs. It's also pretty cheap.

I got the mixing jar and mixing spoons

Oh okay, well noted then.
I never really got into painting. How good are the results from just using paint and a brush?

>>14477664
I had a lot of money.
And I was actually really into it. Then all of a sudden I lost all interest in them. I had amassed my collect after years of it. A few bought recently and such.

This was my collection at the end of 2015. Well part of it. There's about another 15 kits that I didn't take a photo of.

Depression got me into it, depression took me out of it. Now that I'm a bit better I want to start again.

>>14477690
I'll just do it then. Either the Operation V kit, or maybe this LBX Recon kit. Probably the LBX kit, since it's easily replaceable.

>>
>>14477787
I'm having a lot of issues with painting. I'm on vacation right now so I don't have it on hand, but the parts of the wings on Amazing Exia's backpack that need to be painted white are completely fucking me up. I keep stripping the paint and going at it but it's just no good. I have to brush by hand because I live in a condo, and I'll admit I've been a bitch and not primed it but gosh motherfucking damn it's turned out ungodly horrible. And when I look at my next kit, the G-Portent, I see that sword and have no fucking idea how I'm going to tackle such a large area by hand.
>>

>>14477812

First things first, you must prime.
Second, masking. That's how you'll do it. Get some of that Tamiya hobby-specific masking tape. It is a lot easier to work with than the regular stuff, really makes a difference.

>But it's a curved surface, it's too complicated to mask

Slap the tape on and scrape the excess back with a toothpick.

Painting is 90% setting the shit up and having patience. That's all there is to it.
>>
>>14477823
Not him, but do you have to prime if you're hand painting over with the same color?

There's situations for small areas where you can just scratch the surface up a bit with some high grit sandpaper to put some traction on the plastic and then handpaint over it with decent results.

Honestly it hasn't been confirmed for Shia yet so I'm wondering if it could be someone else. That said, it's a fucking Shia suit and Bandai is just lazy cashgrab asses who think a moeshit nyan meido waifu moves plastic.

It's Shia's suit so who fucking cares, she was the worst character next to Chicken how are you so it's not like it really matters what gunpla she gets.

Who else could it possibly be though? Unless Shia pulls a Maoh and completely changes her style, no other character except her brother uses a 00 unit, and he doesn't strike me as the cat ear kind.

Fellini's models are green because it has yellow with red for an Italian motif. Not only that, but it is symmetrical because they took away all the things that made the 00 QAN[T] asymmetrical.

I have it, it's... okay, the main problem is that the transformation leaves the chest cavity hollow, and that leads to serious structural integrity issues across the entire top half of the kit. Mine loves to let its entire left arm collapse and fall out. Also, the feet are too thin to support the kits weight, if you order it, put him on a stand, or transform the kit.

If you want a good transforming kit, get the Proto Zero.

IIRC, the F91 is basically the smallest Gundam in UC, and possibly the smallest ever. We're talking a Gundam so small the Victory and V2 can look down on it...

Which is why you really really need to get your hands on a Sazabi to pose next to it.
>>
>>14481054
>Nice animation for the early 90s.

There is absolutely no correlation between the time it was made and the quality of the animation.
Saying "It has good animation for X period" is an utterly stupid and uninformed statement.
>>
>>14481060
The f91 and the victory are actually the same size. The hguc line made victory taller than it should be compared to the rest of the line.
>>

>IIRC, the F91 is basically the smallest Gundam in UC, and possibly the smallest ever. We're talking a Gundam so small the Victory and V2 can look down on it...

The Victory and F91 are the same heights according to their respective manuals, at least. Both are 15.2m

While you're technically right. Fleischer animation in the 30's rivals even some modern animation.
Certain trends during a time period influenced the amount of quality that was acceptable.
Art evolves over time and different levels of technical proficiency and different techniques become the standard for a time before the next transition.

It looks better than two other contemporary 90s animated films?

Man you sure convinced me!

It also looks significantly worse than Patlabor 2, which only came out about 2 years after it, so is F91 high quality for its time or is Patlabor the one that's good for its time? How about Ghost in the Shell? Memories? Macross Plus? Roujin Z? Porco Rosso?
F91 is mid-tier, at best, compared to those, and even titles made before it.

>>14481824

Usually people panel line white with gray, because black is too stark, unless you WANT that high contrast. Gray also works well on yellow.

For red it's personal preference. Brown looks really subtle and nice. Black makes for a defined panel line that contrasts well with a strong color like red. Gray is somewhere in between. Test them out and see which one you like since if you fuck up a panel line you can just wipe it away with alcohol.

It effects everything because it's a blanket cost raise for EMS shipping, but it's only an odd five extra dollars.
>>
So I'm finishing up my snap build of the Pale Rider and it only makes me more and more assmad that the frame isn't being used for more suits, even pbandai ones.
The level of detail is pretty damn good and the legs make use of new engineering so it doesn't suffer from the 90 degrees pain of most other fed suits.
Even the color seperation is fantastic, bar the handful of white stickers they give you for detail parts, but I assume they did it like that to cut costs because they gave you stickers for the exact same parts in different colors for HADES mode.

If you get the chance, definitely pick up a pale rider if it suits your fancy. You won't regret it.
Although the gates on the torso and the missle pods are fucking retarded.

did I do good as a newbie?

I'm still working on painting it and only painted the base body so far.
I fucked up a bit and theres some paint scratches on the head, I guess I can keep it on as "battle damage"

Still trying to figure out a way to attach that claw and make it look good

If the anon who was asking about Victory Gundam kits is around, my Mandarake order came in. Here's a couple of pics of the Gun-EZ straight oob just to give an idea of how much work they'd need

He just painted it, asshat. And he's apparently not even done. The panel lines obviously come later. Could you be any more of an obvious shitposter?

and whats wrong with kitbashing? pic related aint so overdone and pretty simple
>>
>>14482479
what about the seam lines?
what about the fact that it just is a fustercluck of parts with no design sense?
What about the gum?

Something I thought was neat was how these things're built around a partial inner frame called the V Frame. These things have pretty neat engineering, especially for the early 90s.
