Hell the Overflag wasn't a grunt suit only when compared to the regular Flag. It was still, technologically, shit compared to the Gundams and even GN-Xs and all of their pilots aside from Aker mattered little and had fairly quick deaths. The GN Flag was only slightly better in that it had a GN Drive, but it was slapped on so haphazardly the suit actually lost functions for it.

The GN-XIV
The GN-XIV shits on a lot if not all of the grunt suits you could possibly imagine. It's innately super fast and durable because GN techand can go even faster with Trans Am,can cover basically any combat role with its armaments and protect itself and the pilot very well thanks to its capability of deploying a GN Field.
Save for G Gundams,the 00 movies and possibly the Black Histories, just one of these things would blatantly one side any of the franchises wars no matter the side. It's a shame there were never more side stories of 00 to establish a variant having (Rifle) Bits.

The Mercurius and Vayeate weren't one of a kind, unique units. White Fang builds their own versions late in the series. They are different units as the first Vayeate was totally destroyed and the first Mercurius was heavily damage, while the ones that White Fang used were built to be mobile dolls and didn't have cockpits.
And if you take the Wing sidestories into account, there's another set of customized Mercurius and Vayeate which had twice the loadout of the originals.

Yeah the Innovado suits were the last consistanly good designs after that it was hit n miss all over the place. The 00 was fine
itself but once they slapped the Raiser on it bleh and the other Gundams were
downgrades save for the Arios.
Then came the movie and we got nothing but backpacks n lego block bits. I really didn't like those funnels it just struck me as
hyper lazy design. Why make a complex MS design when you can just have the funnels turn into everything so you don't need
to bother with attatching equipment.
