***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, dont make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

If you go in expecting the Nu Ver. Ka but better, you'll be left a little wanting. It's really solid though.

The original MG isn't that bad, but the Ver. Ka is mechanically better in every way and it just looks like ass in comparison to Katoki's, seriously. It's not the Hi-Nu without THICC.

So I was browsing through my old email and I found one from Hobbysearch on the 2nd of June saying that 00 Raiser 1/100 NG Designer color ver. is getting a restock in August. Does this mean that the other 1/100 NG 00 Designer versions might be reprinted as well? I'm rather new to this hobby so I don't know if the 00 Raiser Designer ver. gets restocked more often than the others.

I know that the normal 1/100 NGs are getting restocked next month, but I really want those LED on the S2 units.

Seems like they are all backordered.
>>
>>14376233
>On HLJ they are all backordered
That's just HLJ being HLJ. Backordered is their way of saying out of stock, but you'll be put on a list for if it ever does come back. The same kit could be backordered for a year and you still won't get it.
>>
>>14376223
It's possible but as the 1/100 Designer ver hasn't seen a reprint in literal years it's not exactly probable.
Also I think if such a high interest kit was getting a reprint amiami would already have preorders up, like they have for every 00 reprinting so far. Both the 00 HGs and the 00 1/100's have had preorders available for about two months prior. I'd be really surprised if such a sought after kit didn't get the same treatment.

>>14375514

>tfw my gf wants to make the Super Fumina as practice for her BJD's
>tfw she wants to build the Tieren Taozi because Pink is her aesthetic

I'm thinking about getting her a Strike Rouge, maybe even another pink MS if I can find one. Char's Zaku is out of the question since she despises Char with a burning passion.

I'm kinda in the same boat in that I can't paint, just snap and panel line with Gundam Markers, and decal/sticker kits because I'm moving in July, and am currently staying at my parent's house in between the move. I don't wanna spill paint anywhere, and also don't want to try to dig through my packed stuff and find the paint.

>>14376507
Do they even reprint the builder's parts? I've been seeing the costs for those on Amazon fluctuate a lot. I thought I heard that the Weapon System builder's parts are discontinued, but idk, Bandai does some crazy things.
>>
>>14376527
If you want true asymmetry start with the head
Make one side rounded and clean, and leave the other side that stock kind of jagged
Then, you use that to influence the rest of your design.
If I could suggest a Transient arm with a 00Qant backpack I feel like you'd be most of the way toward an asymmetrical 00
Maybe a leg off of the 007S/G?
>>
>>14376531
get her the RG Strike Rouge so she has something more detailed to work with.
Maybe Geara/Rozen Zulu?
>>
>>14376527
Why don't you swap out the right shoulder piece for something else and remove/replace the drive on the right side.

Hi Nu now has shoes and shorts
So far so good, but I HATE the bending mechanism they implemented this time, which depends entirely of a weird channel-slot piece right at the knee

I was thinking of getting her the MG Strike Rouge, since it's bigger, and not as fragile as RG's. How is the fragility of the RG Strike? I've only build the Freedom, and my sister the Strike Freedom and Destiny. There's also the Justice, or the Aegis MG/HG. Any other pink, not-Char kits out there? Her favorite colors are pink and light blue, so a pink and light blue one would probably make her day.

I've built the strike recently and can say it's pretty decently sturdy. The only parts that ever give me any grief, and only after extended play, are the bicep armor and the armor piece for the ankle guards.
For the former I think it's because they have the sliding armor going for the arms, but for the latter it's just a relatively loose connection I haven't really bothered to troubleshoot. Neither of them are particularly bad.

There's really not a large number of pink suits to choose from, though. At least, not a lot that come to mind.

Different anon, but the Grimgerde is completely retarded. Even if you can get past it's retarded long mouth thing and bunny ears, it's still basically all one garish shade of red barring the absurdly large amount of exposed parts, which are astonishingly primitive looking, and that shitty looking gold Skyrim paddlesword. It's armor isn't even consistent. Half the time it looks like it's trying to rip on the Swordfish and the other half it just has Graze parts slapped on. Each limb follows a vaguely consistent aesthetic, but the mobile suit as a whole fails to do so at all. Grimgerde is among the worst meme suits I've ever seen.

Fuckdamnit, why doesn't the X have the harmonica?
>>
>>14377043

>>
>>14377684
Because it'd be weird if the normal X had the Divider X's harmonica.

It'd be like giving the twin buster rifle to the Wing Gundam.
>>
>>14377568
The Freedom 2.0 is similar to The Origin where it looks graceful and natural in basically any pose and some design features are better depending on your taste. I prefer the original Okawara design but the 2.0 has grown on me. I shaved off the parts on the cannons and shoulders and shit though since they look retarded
>>
>>14377692
Not really, just make the kit 500 yen more expensive with interchangeable parts. Besides, the X isn't nearly as different from the X DV as the WZ is from Wing.

I just want the harmonica so I can give it to the DX for best X.

What are some HG kits that feel bulky, hefty, sturdy, etc? Like I built an AGE 1 Normal and an Acguy one after the other and I just felt like I had more fun with the huge Acguy while I was worried I was gonna break the Age. So I want to try out more bigger mobile suits. And please don't tell me to just buy MGs instead.

Also, it feels like newer designs just get slimmer and slimmer with their proportions. Do you think that's just a design aesthetic or is Banrise it wanting to make cheaper kits? Line up an older zaku kit against an Origin one and it's freaky how much smaller they made the Origin one.
>>
>>14377682

They can't be saving that much plastic. In any case, going by body size the HG Thunderbolt Psycho Zaku is probably larger than any other 1:144 Zaku.

It's hard to name a "best" kit in each grade, because so much is based on your preferences. However, the engineering of the kits keeps getting better as time progresses, with the exception of some of the HGBF kits as they use older molds for some of their parts.

It's difficult to go wrong with a recent HGUC for HG or a newish MG (e.g. Double X) for MG. I haven't built a PG kit so I'm going to stay away from talking about those, but I know that FG and AG kits aren't worth your time. As the guide says, you start having to deal with engineering and construction problems more once you build an MG older than the first Aile Strike. I'm partial to the Mg Hyaku Shiki 2.0, but I'd go to dalong and see what you like the aesthetics of, then go look more in-depth at the engineering.

RE/100 kits are MG-sized kits with less detail. Think 1/100 HGs with a little more detail than normal HGs but less than a comparable MG.

Wait you guys buy plamos in a huge bunch?

I rarely buy more than 2 MGs per purchase, is it cheaper to buy it in bunch? Where do you guys buy them from?
>>
>>14378618
Generally you pay for shipping apart from just the weight. I think i will probably wait for some more HLJ sales on things I want before I send it all out. Just keep it in your private warehouse honestly.
>>
>>14378618
It cuts back on shipping, especially express shipping.
My last order was about $180 in merch and $50 in shipping. I got EMS and it was in within a week. Consequently I could have bought about $80 dollars of that merch two weeks sooner, but the shipping would've been something like $30 or $40 depending on the weight, and then the shipping for the $100 dollars of other merch would've been another $30 or $40. Again, all with EMS.
Some people buy off of HLJ and use their private warehouse program to store kits until shipping them off in bulk, which achieves the same effect over time. Personally I use Amiami though.

Does amiami have a private warehouse function? I've heard they're cheaper.
>>
>>14378659
No they don't, but they are generally the cheapest and they update stock pretty regularly. I shop around but I like Amiami for their prices most especially. It helps that I generally only order things once in a few months so I'm not really impacted by the lack of private warehouse.
The comeuppance is that I do have to live with it if something I intended to get goes out of stock, but I usually plan around that possibility.
>>
>>14378650
I use HLJ private warehouse and I find it pretty convenient.
>>
>>14378662
Makes sense. I prefer HLJ for the ability to store shit up and send it all in one shot; it's mainly to save on shipping. Splitting up orders would essentially be paying a few extra kits' worth of money for nothing, and my working hours make collecting mail inconvenient, so I'd rather get them all in one go.

So guys this is my first time doing some panel lining, used a grey gundam marker and was wondering if it looks decent to any of you
I've done some on the blue parts too with a black marker but they don't seem to be standing out so well
>>
>>14378728

Blue is a dark color so panel lines don't stand out very well, but it still looks much better than no lines. Also that looks good, not too thick.

I stopped using markers for gray lines because a 0.2/0.3 mechanical pencil is much easier to use and offers more control so you get some really nice subtle lines. And then there's panel washing.
>>
>>14378733
Yeah, just a little dissapointed it's not standing out as much as i'd hoped for the darker colors, but at some parts I can notice a difference at least, also for red and yellow pieces, will the black be better for standing out than grey?
I've heard of the panel washing but i'm thinking i'll leave and learn that till i'm a little more familiar with everything else first
>>
>>14378752

It depends on what you want. A lot of people use gray for yellow because black is too high contrast and brown for red as it looks very natural. For red you can try black too, it doesn't look bad if you go light.
>>

Joints and fingers completely ready for use straight off the runner. They even managed to top that magic by making the Astray innerframe multicolored so it works OOB.

>>14378860
I think these are the ones he's talking about.

>>14378850
I wanna say they just make a runner with the half the pieces, evenly spaced, like the palm and middle phalanges, and have the gates be really small, then just put that runner in the next mold (alternatively, just have the mold pull back on that parts where the other phalanges and wrist connector would be) that has all the other missing pieces and just re-pour into the new mold. Since the orginal pieces has such small gates, then it's easy to just bend the joints a little, and have them move, but not come undone.

That would explain why, if you pop one of the fingers out where the phalanges connect, they don't stay as secure, since the gate was the connecting factor. At least that's what I assume.
>>
>>14378865
Oh those I like those

when I first got one I nearly didn't know where to cut since I was used to the old "thumb and first finger were seperate and then theres the rest 3 stuck together" and you gotta attack them to the palm and the back of the hand armor
>>
>>14376861

think about the shapes you want to make, then cut out the pieces that would make that shape

that's really all there is to it, you just have to plan and use some problem solving
>>
>>14378865
It's the same technique as RG frames...if you look at the material, you'll see it is made out of two types of plastics with different melting points/glass-transition temperatures.

>Mold core components in PP plastic (melting point ard 130 deg celsius)
>Insert cores into 2nd mold (not sure how exactly it's automated)
>Mold exterior components in ABS plastic (melting point ard 100 deg celsius)

That's the basic process I assumed they did. Although, the 3.0 hands seem to be made with the same plastic all around. I wonder how they get around the same melting point problem with those.

In other news, finally finished decaling and topcoating this guy! All I have right now is my shitty phone camera, but I'll try to find my good camera and set up an adhoc photo booth to take better pictures maybe, since it shouldn't be to much of a hassle. Any feedback?
>>
>>14378995
Pretty nice

Why the inconsistent panel line darkness?
>>
>>14379000
I used grey for all the panel lines, and some of them just wouldn't stay on, around parts where the actual armor bits separate for the "psychoframe" gimmick.

The calves just kinda rubbed off as I manhandled them and put decals on them. Might do some touch up tomorrow, after the topcoat has finished curing, but the oneson the shin I might have some trouble with, since they don't like to stay on when I pose him.

I'm only using Gundam Markers, as I've mentioned before, since all my paint is currently stored away in-between moves.
>>
>>14378995
It's not the same plastic... if you look at the runner markings or the instruction manual it says ABS+PP. They managed to dye both plastics such that they look similar, that's impressive.

You look like you did a much better job than I did with my Nu Ver ka, I didn't even bother with all of the water slides because it was a hassle

Also what tools do you guys have for model building? I can't be arsed to turn on my vpn and open the google docs guide

I just use a small tool set box i got from amazon it does the job but I think I want more

is there any merits in top coating?

Yes, a few

>Ensures consistent gloss/matte texture throughout whole model
>Acts as sacrificial, protective external layer

I like the little decals and stickers since it makes the robot look more like a machine than a cartoon robot. Although, there is a charm to having a robot that looks like a cartoon, but that's what HG's are for.

As for tools, all I use are x-acto's and clippers. I have some sanding sticks I made from sand paper and Popsicle sticks, as well as a pin-vice and paint brushes/paints themselves from my 40K models. Also a mini screwdriver from the half-dozen or so laptops I've gone through that have needed replacement RAM/HDD's and the like, but that's mainly used when I need to make a stand.

Also, as >>14379038 put it, topcoat is good to make one consistent texture over the whole kit, as well as protects paints from chipping too much.

Also it keeps decals from sliding off and running away to start a family.

We'll get it one day.

We'll probably have to wait a long time though, like the MG GX

This. I used to be absolutely astounded that they had come up with the idea to have multiple colour plastics that fit together without glue. The stuff we see in gunpla these days blows it right out of the park.

How hard is it to get P Bandai stuff? That 21st Century Gouf looks pretty neat.
