Mirage was of course promoted to chuui, which was Messers rank and became delta 02, I think everyone caught that.
Chaos was planning to make a sneak attack on Sigur Valens ship at Al Shahal. They figured that Heinz would not be able to sing again within a short amount of time (Mikumo says its too much of burden on him, and Kaname says that they've never observed him sing twice within 24 hours period)
NUNS arrive and tell Ernest that there has been an order to destroy the Ragnan ruins because Al Shahal was conquered in 15 minutes. Ernest etc are worried that could have dire consequences for the planet, because the ruins extend down to the planets core. Some politics talk about consulting with lady M
Later we get to know that Lady M has managed to postpone the bombing of the ruins until after the sneak attack by Chaos has been attempted
Mirage seemed to be pressured by her new rank and position and was trying to think up a plan or similiar with the pad.
Hayate and Freyja come out to eat lunch and talk a bit. Freyja says something hoping that her song can reach the wind singer and maybe change his heart (she had said something similiar to Makimaki and reirei earlier)
She asks about Hayate's pendant, and he says he got it from his dad. His dad was a militairy and so went to a lot of different planets and that pendant came from some planet.
Hayate tells Freyja that he loves her songs and they feel really great, and that he'll protect her, which causes her blush.
When Mirage is found out she tells Hayate that she doesn't have his talent. She also says that he may have won between them during his final exam but she's gonna make even, essentially a rival thing.
I distinctly remember Hayate also saying something like "I'm there with you, and so is Arad and Chuck, you just have to fly like you always do" <-- this was probably before the previous passage

Also, Ernest revealed that he was Windermere before the war as a trainer of sorts. He was talking about the King, and I believe said that he was a very straightforward individual, who made him suitable to 1v1 battles more than fleet command.
He said that he was sent away before war on windermere though, because of something on the lines of the king not wanting to borrow non-windermerean hands or something like that.
Ernest for his part was described by the king as a worthy opponent with a reputation for having thousands battles with no losses under his belt.

Just the ship itself, without the carriers, has *at least* 13, possibly 14, of the standard UN Spacy beam turrets we've seen on everything since the original series; the carriers have an additional four of these each.
Then there's the *big* turrets, which look like scaled up versions of the ones on the movie version of the Macross Quarter. The Elysion has *twelve* of those.
I also counted twelve, possibly sixteen anti-mecha turrets, half on each leg.
And then there's the stuff in the gun booms - there's four guns at the tip of each one, and four of what looks very much like giant missile launchers.
And we have no confirmation of where they're hiding the Macross cannon this time. Does it fire SDF style, or does it have a *pair* of Battle Frontier style guns (one in each carrier)?
Not liking the official statement of the size of the ship, btw - 828 meters seems way too small, as it'd make the carriers not that much bigger than the ARMD-L on the Quarter, and the ARMD-L was way too tiny for what they claim it carried.
(You do not cram a Nimitz-class size air wing, half of which has to be stowed on the deck of the real carrier, below decks on something that's smaller than a WW2 Essex...)

This shot makes it look a lot bigger. Someone measured the sizes of the VF-31 on screen compared to the length of the flight deck, and got an upper bound of 900 meters, and a lower bound somewhere in the 600s.
I'd buy the *Aether* being 828 meters long no sweat, based on the relative sizes of the aircraft and the carrier, though...

Because that's a painting someone made, rather than a 3D render - it was probably made using a 3D render as a reference, perhaps it's even just an overpaint, but it's definitely not an actual render in itself. The details are too sketchy.
It's apparently a really common technique used to avoid complaints of "obvious CG". In shows like Gundam Unicorn, the whole show is made like that - they don't use a cel-shading renderer, they do the cel-shading and effects by hand, which is why it still looks like anime and not like the Appleseed movies.

Macross M3, Plus, Seven (and its movie), VF-X2, The Ride, Frontier and 30 all contained really big hints that the government on Earth didn't really care one way or the other about the colony fleets once they were out of weapon range... And the only reason I'm not bringing up the first VF-X game is that I don't know too much about its plot...

Macross M3 deals with various Anti-UN and rebel Zentradi so no. UN Spacy only mistake is poking around Protoculture bio weapon tech.
Plus not really as it was a competition which would be the main fighter. An AI fighter would mean less pilot casualties. That didn't work out thanks to mad scientist Marge installing an illegal bio neural chip to Sharon Apple.
In M7 UN Spacy left the fleet to face the Protodevlin alone. Not that different to what happened to the Macross really. Remember the whole point of the Seeding plan was the survival of the species. These guys killed most of the Protoculture and wipe out Zentradi fleets individually. While giving an order to attack a 97,000 ship strong fleet is idiotic remember Lost Zentradi fleets are a real threat as seen with the attempted Lost Zentradi invasion of Earth in Digital Mission VF-X in 2047 with a fleet and mobile fotress, and with the Lost Zentradi attack on Planet Sephira in 2058 in the dead sister backstory of Leon Sakaki in Macross 30. The Varauta Fleet Flagship Battle Carrier was originally intended as a small Zentradi fleet killer.
VF-X2 Earth supremacists Lactence didn't like the UN decentralized so they had Critical Path Corp. supply weapons to both sides to destabilize frontier planets. UN Spacy officers found out creating Vindirance, an AEUG to Lactence's Titan's conspiracy.
The Ride not really as it was the Zentradi chapter remnants of Lactence. They are outlaws. LAI was leaking YF-29 data to Macross Galaxy.
Leon and Macross Galaxy Executive Board are dickbags who took over their fleets to try to take over the galaxy not really the NUNG as they revolted. It is no different from Anti-UN forces Mirage refered to trying to take over an Island ship when she got her first kill.
It's not that NUN is evil it is just that you don't know shit about Macross.

The government is decentralized - but the Earth still holds the lions share of the power, seeing as it has the most people, the most manufacturing and research capability, and the biggest military fleet. And according to The Ride, they not only keep most of their own advanced weapons research to themselves, they make all the member governments send in copies of their own stuff and can veto further development in directions they don't like.
As for the NUNS, there's two parts to that. There's the "Central Spacy", which is the part of the former UN Spacy that was responsible for protecting the Earth, and the dealing with things like rogue Zentraedi fleets. And then there's the local forces of all the member governments, each of which is entitled to call itself part of the NUNS even if they weren't part of the original UN Spacy.
(some colony fleets, notably Galaxy, were entirely corporate sponsored and employed their own private space forces for protection. When these fleets formed their own governments and joined the NUG following the reorganization, these private space forces were allowed to use the NUNS name, hence why Brera has a NUNS diamond on his wing.)
So basically all the NUNS diamond means normally is that the craft belongs to some government or other. The officer in this week's episode on the other hand is explicitly said to be from the Central Spacy, which means he's from Earth, and most likely represents their view.
(The Havamal task force in Macross 30 was also part of the Central Spacy, and its commander is a such an Earth Firster it's difficult to see how he was allowed to rise into that position unless the rest of the Central Spacy agreed with him...)

Well if Earth found out what he was planning they'd stop him as their civilization would be wiped out of existence literally. This is why he gave Leon a Ghost welcoming committee and had Rod shoot down.
He didn't want anybody remotely squealing what he is planning.
