Do you mean the concept of having the mecha functioning without the outer shell? Having a modular exterior that can be changed?

Like, people talking about skeletons and shit but if you removed a person's meaty bits then they're not going to do a whole bunch.
>>
>>14359463
Do you think giant robots fear their inner frames too?
>>
>>14359447
L-Gaim was the first to introduce inner frames with modular and moving/shifting armor, not so much the inner frame itself.
>>
Mazinger ending had pics of the inner frame IIRC.

Yes

Tetsujin iirc. Also failing that, Mazinger featured an inner frame overview in its ED.

Human skeleton, vehicles, actual robots....

Did you think mecha were just boxes filled with random electronics?

Look up "Robo-one tournament" if you want to see a bunch of little robot frames fighting.

Inner frame =/= bisected view of robot guts

L-Gaim was the first mecha anime to actually show off the mecha's internal skeleton as its own thing.

Pic related is from the Japanese government during a study on the history of robot anime

Not him, but I want to see the rest of this document.

I wonder what the Japanese government says about Eva's "influence".

It's actually pretty enlightening. I like it. http://mediag.jp/project/project/images/JapaneseAnimationGuide.pdf

The OYW MS don't have inner frames. Their body is designed such that armor is part of the essential structure that holds everything together. It isn't until Gryps-era MS do MS separate the armor from a "inner frame". The movable frame literally refers the inner frame alone carries all the parts necessary for propulsion and armor is an add-on, hence "movable" frame.
>>
>>14360408
Pretty omoshiroi find, anon.

>The 1990s also ushered in what could be called the "quality revolution." As the release
of TV series on video became the norm, the idea of anime fans as "users" rather than simple consumers took root, and the quality of a production's visuals became the standard by which it was judged.

So, 90s confirmed the golden age of anime?
>>
>>14360435
To add to that, Zeta Gundam made a really big deal about the Mk II having an inner moveable frame, which eventually led to making the transformable MS. So even in-canon, MS didn't have inner frames until Zeta, which came after L-Gaim and had Nagano working as one of its core designers as well.
>>
>>14360435
>>14360453
A tiny bit off. Oyw ms do have an inner frame. It just acts as a support for the ms and something to build around. And then as you mentioned the moveable frame that came later had everything integrated into the frame itself.
>>
>>14360472
IIRC it's the Turn A that doesn't have an inner frame at all, and moves around by puppetting itself using i-fields. Or something like that, it's been a long time.
>>
>>14360511
Minovsky beam drive. Its got a bunch of free moving joints and no motors or servos or anything. It uses i fields to trap minovsky particles into a sort of form fiting layer and by manipulating the shape of the field it can move the body around.

Heard you talkin' shit 'bout my inner frame like I wouldn't know.
>>
>>14360472
Isn't the Inner Frame actually a Feddie thing and the Zekes would build an exterior frame then stuff it with internals to make it work? I seem to recall that being a thing.
>>
>>14360439

>posts the inner frame used for the structural composition of a plastic model kit

anon pls
>>
>>14360609
It sure explains why Sunrise was giving anybody's show fucking beautiful animation though. Look at the Outlaw Star BDs, they're incredible.
>>
>>14360580
It used to be going from the old databooks. Monocoque and semi-monocoque frames were the term. That explanation has been left by the wayside (I think) due to not all Zeon and Feddy designs adhering to those design concept and it not really being reflected in the model kits.

The only distinction we have now is the skeleton like movable frame or regular old "armor shell frame filled with parts". The movable frame didn't even become the new standard, not all post Zeta-era designs use movable frames.
