There was quite a bit of arguing back in the day (if memory serves me) when that came out... Some people felt it should be Zero GR, others Zero the R. Point is: we will never know as there was never an English name published for it. And well, fan translation be damned, anon.

You can't really argue against "The R" because, well, we have a mobile suit named ジ・O. What do you think this should be? G-O? :/

Animus means incredibly intense and driven hatred.
>>
>>14293332
Look at this ESL faggot defending animus.
>>
>>14293347
English is my first language; it's a perfectly valid way to use the term animus, although it does smack of someone picking up a thesaurus when anger would work just as well.
>>
>>14293352
>English is my first language
No one who actually speaks English would defend the word animus. So go ahead and be a ESL faggot.

>animus
Hello psychology majors?
>>
>>14293369
the psychology animus is not used here clearly its the plural of animu.
>>
>>14293362
I will defend it as being technically correct, as someone who's English, was born in England, received straight As in literally every examination on English I have ever sat and went on into editing as a profession. It is rather clunky though, hence my comment that it's very likely the translator just picked it from a thesaurus.

It does, however, work in this context. The term predates the rise in psychological thought and was used from time to time in writings from the early 19th century to convey force of mind, especially that driven by extreme emotions, such as anger. The sentence "The animus of our comrades' refers to the collective mindset of their group, driven by, I presume, anger, to their actions.

Actually, the more and more I think about it, the more it seems to fit.

Don't argue with that faggot. He shitposts the general and tries to copy TE.
>>
>>14293387
Fuck off and kill yourself, shitposter. The animus thing isn't even that big of a fuck-up. If aything, it's **too accurate** of a translation. I.e. the translator was overreaching in his attempt to nail the original japanese in a single compact English sentence and ended up with an expression that -- while correct English that is still fairly close to the original meaning -- is incredibly archaic; horribly stiff; and not what a modern-day native speaker would ever use.

That whole line would've been far better served with a *loose* translation. E.g. , since Calvina is narrating the translator could've gone with a more personal: "My wrath; avenging my comrades"

Considering Tominospeak, Japanese navy ranks, and calling everyone by their first names 100% of the time; the UC era doesn't really have a grammar matching ours.

The line is referring to Al-Van. The comrades are dead because he killed them. The line is speaken by Calvina and was "the one who killed my comrades was..." which continues into Al-Van's name popping up.
>>
>>14295920
People keep bringing up the original Japanese text for the animus line but why does it have to be a 1:1 translation? The line is localized so that it says something else entirely that still fits the situation.
