It makes them stealthy. Just look at the F-117.

>>14288780
Why don't you explain your deep knowledge instead of le reaction image one liner?
>>
>>14288776

Isn't it because angled, straight armor increases their chance to deflect glancing hits from enemy fire?
>>
>>14288782
It was at first, the stealth factor came into play when radar detection became common.

They need fuck tons of armor because they're flinging lasers composed of Minovsky Particles around that melts anything that isn't fitted with Luna Titanium.

Basically if you don't want to get shot up you use more armor.
>>
>>14288813
That doesn't make sense. Boxy != more armor
>>
>>14288813

They're beams, not lasers. They don't travel at light speed.
>>
>>14288820

Because it's a Chinese cartoon, okay?
>>
>>14288826
But we're talking about your explanation, not the anime. At this point, literally nothing you have said has made any sense. Are you okay?
>>
>>14288813
Well, this applies to Universial Century Mobile Suits. But yes every Gundam series developed some type of particle beam technology. But beams are not the only weapon in use so you still need protection from machine gun, auto cannon and missile fire.

Beams are often one-shot kills though, you would need a significant amount of extra armor to protect from that, like a Full Armor variant.

Wait, stealth is actually a factor? I was just making a joke when I posted >>14288776.
>>
>>14288886
Of course not every vehicle with angled armor is build like that to be stealthy, and there is far more to to it than just making it look like a low poly model from a 90's video game.
>>
>>14288820
>>14288840
What do you think is a good practical armor/shield for humanoid robots then?
>>
>>14288920
Not sure about practicality, but a popular trend is to equip the unit with solid slab of armor to use as a directional shield.
>>
>>14288920
kevlar and ceramic plating

because nothing can really protect against actual anti-armor weapons

Flat bits are easier to mold, and less likely to break when you pop them out.

Thats pretty much the premise behind everything f91 and up.
Make shit smaller and faster because goddamn beam weaponry. And then it became space laser sword/wing warfare for a good long while.
>>
Because boxes are easier to recreate as toys.
>>
>>14291670
Well that design just became the SUMO anyway, and Mead pretty much designed the Turn A as an "evolution" to the RX-78. Like as if someone did a sci-fi futuristic version of it, which is weird since Gundam is sci-fi to begin with it.

Besides all robots need more curves.
>>
>>14288721
Easier to animate them and make them into plamo.
>>
>>14291829
the correct answer.

boxy designs allow is easier to mold, allow less error during plastic injection
>>
>>14288721
Easier to animate by hand.
