Let's talk about how the Tallgeese was way fucking cooler of a design than any of the titular Gundams in Wing.
Looks like something out of Xenogears. It almost doesn't fit with the rest of the shows designs but that makes it even better since most of the rest are shit.
I love how it's thighs and shins are extra-long in proportion to the rest of its body. And that mohawk really gives it a Roman look.
The actual reason I watched wing. That said I only watched 14 episodes and said fuck it.
The Leo was one of the best designs in the history of mecha, so any variant is pretty much bound to do well.

ive not watched wing but the tallgeese is great and i really like what I've seen of the grunt design too. The gundam just don't look like they belong with them in the same show style wise. I feel the same way about victory somewhat. Nothing really matches the Katoki flavour of the first victory, not even the gun EZs or the V2 in my opinion.

Heero barely piloted the Wing for half the show I guess, while Kamillle piloted the MkII for 20 episodes if I recall and that's as much a grunt as the Victory really.

The Tallgeese is a very pure design. It has great proportions and no gimmicks; the styling is also quite conventional. Badguy suits in Gundam tend to get really tryhard and gimmicky, with edgelord styling and questionable design features. The closest thing to the Tallgeese that we've had in terms of enemy suits is definitely the Grimgerde, which is why >>14274729 works so well.
I mean, just think of Epyon, Virsago, Master & Devil Gundams, the Thrones & Arche, etc. All of them are on the eccentric side of the design spectrum. I may be overlooking something, but the only other normal-ish enemy suits I can think of are the Providence & Legend.

That's because Tallgeese was never really a badguy suit. Most of Zechs actions with it were heroic or at least fighting mutal enemies of the Gundam's. He only fought Heero with it twice and one of those times were a very brief one.
Epyon was Zechs badguy suit and it's much more "evilly" designed.

The scientists that made the Gundams intentionally designed them to look more like superheroes rather than military machines, that way it'll hopefully be easier for people to rally behind them, especially compared to OZ or whoever.

OZ wanted a mobile suit, so some goddamn AWESOME scientists decided to build a machine that was so fast it would kill pilots, have armour so thick it couldnt be penetrated by tank rounds, so many weapons it puts battleships to shame. It comes as no surpise that OZ couldnt afford to mass produce the Tallgeese model.
In the end, its truly 1 of a kind even among its own series of suits.

Its less they couldn't and more there was no point. Putting aside the pilot issue, there was no role for such a formidable and expensive suit, and the scaled down Leo filled the role perfectly for roughly 20 years. The Tallgeese would have been excessive and pointless in it's place.
