Well the story has so far focused itself on Freya finding her path and Hayate becomming a pilot. Both of those set ups are now over and Mirage will probably get her turn now.
To be fair her character was not needed for Freya and Hayate's arcs so far (atleast no more than we got to see of her). Now that everyone has settled into their roles we can start developing the actual cast.

Holoclothes. Macross has had the technology for a while to have wearable technology that projects holographic clothes on top of what you are actually wearing. They look detailed, but since they are actually made of light the person using them seems to glow. Its basically just used by stage performers, its not stealthy at all.

She is a Windemeren, and that thing in her hair is something that Windemerens have called a Rune. It seems to be some kind of subspace antenna. Side note: Windemerens are significantly faster and stronger than humans, but their biology craps out young and they don't tend to live much past 30.

Windemere has a manifest destiny boner and wants to be in charge, rejecting the Earth-based human government and attempting to carve out their own part of the galaxy. Windemere knows it can't win a conventional war, so it is exploiting protoculture relics as a crude form of wind control. These days they can trake control of enemy forces and make them fight their friends using actual tactics and such, but the first dozen or so tests of this weapon could only apply very simply commands to a limited number of targets. The NUN thought it was some kind of disease making people go ragemode, and the Idols have the ability to snap them out of it. The military defends them while they do it.

Also, you shouldn't forget that the guns and the shooting of guns played a much larger role in Sabagebu than they do in Delta. Animating the guns with proper trigger discipline and weapon handling is simply not their priority.
The art style and backgrounds were also a lot simpler, and it was a manga adaptation as well as being 1 cour.
When Macross Delta becomes less of a story-driven series featuring transformable jet planes and becomes a gun-play focused series, then you can make comparisons.

The factory builds new ships. It doesn't repair existing ships. Maybe it could, but the Zentradi don't know how to make that happen.
Every Zentradi battleship gets used until it breaks down. You just keep accumulating damage until, eventually, your ship takes one hit too many and kaputs. Which is a real problem, because the same factory sat that makes new ships ALSO grows new clones to staff those ships. In effect, every ship already comes with a crew.
If the powerplant on your ship gets damages and your ship loses power, if you are lucky there are other ships in your current battlegroup that have vacancy and can take on your crew as reinforcements. Otherwise, the Zentradi just leave you to die. Its easier for them to just order new Zentradi from the factory that it is to try and save you. Their entire military strategy treats Zentradi as expendable, after all.
THAT is why Britai is so obsessed with learning how the humans repaired the ship. Under those conditions, any kind of repair technology means the difference between life and death for millions of Zentran at a time.

No, their lifespan isn't drawn out until they're older. So if she was a 26 year old that looked like she was 40, she would have the advantage over 30 year olds. But she hardly looks older than her age at all, if any, so she's counted at her real age. My dad is Kawamori and he works at Macross so you can trust me on these 100% official facts.

People seem to not be getting how that works considering how I've heard the same thought. They age like regular people until the start getting closer to 30 and then their bodies start aging. Not really. You can start from Frontier if you go to the era menu and choose it from there.
But playing it chronologically is fun on its own as well.
Early on the VFs start with utterly shit stats.
As you progress, their stock stats get better. Then you get to Plus, where you get to choose the between YF-19 or YF-21, which has pretty damn good stock stats. Then the VF-25 in Frontier comes in.

If you do the dating sim part well enough you can make a pilot with pretty good stats and skills. Its about the only way to get a fully maxed out pilot in the game.

Minmei and Hikaru were both 16 in the anime. Hikaru was about 10 months older and approaching 17 by the start of the series, but they were the same age regardless. You can't really cut Minmei slack for beinger younger and thus less responsible and mature when they're both the same age.

Right. SDFM is my favorite anime series ever, and the main reason is Hikaru and Minmay's relationship. They were both idiots, but that's the point. (Misa was an idiot too, just in a quieter way.) It was amazing to watch Hikaru and Minmay grow by bouncing off of each other, how their relationship fueled their pursuits of their respective goals, and then how those different goals drove a wedge between them.
I was much more endeared towards Minmay than I was to Misa, but I thought Misa should've won. Misa didn't have much in her life besides Hikaru, while Minmay had her music.
I only just caught up on Delta now. It's fine, but it feels a little empty. I thought it was going to be Frontier Mk. II, but it's more like 70% M7 and 30% Frontier. It has a pop style more similar to Frontier, but the lackadaisical plot structure reminds me more of M7.
I think the time for this to turn out true has passed, but what would really make me interested is if Freyja turns out to have been a legitimate Windermere spy (thinkPacifica Oceanfrom Metal Gear Solid), and/or Mikumo turns out to be some sort of villain more villainous than Windermere.

The plot has been on a pretty hard and fast pace though.
Its been very quick in setting up the world so far ( var syndrome happening, tactical sound units, hayate and freya joining walkure, windermere being butthurt about nuking themseleves, and so on), and it hasn't really wasted any time in meaningless fluff episodes. Of course we're only 8 episodes in, so the pacing might slow down in the future, but so far its been very focused.
