***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, dont make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

>>
>>14242405
I'm an HG loving scrub, and don't want to wait a couple months to get the MG FAG. I do plan on getting it down the line, but for now I'm fine with the HG since I want a couple Thunderbolt GMs too.

mg sazabi ver ka for $70 or PG red frame for $116?

>>

how about rg sinaju vs mg sazabi
>>
>>14242471
Well, the RG Sinanju isn't out for another three months anon, which design do you prefer? Are you going to paint and/or mod these kits? I'd still go with the Sazabi imo its one of the best (if not the best) MGs in the line

I'd recommend not getting kits just for the sake of it and just working hard on the kits/designs you do like. You'll spend less money and like what you get out of the hobby a whole lot more.
>>
>>14242481
youre right thanks anon. honestly i like sinaju more. i was going to buy the hguc but rg blows that out ofthe water.

i was thinking of getting tamiya gunmetal spray can for joints, hands, and weapons.

>>14242865
I think he means splitting the front skirts, I don't see any damage to the kit. The gouge-looking thing is probably just a reflection of the plastic wrapping. But usually with newer HGs they're fairly simple and easy to split because of how they're built, with the two ball shapes keeping them fixed in place, like in pic related. With that seed kit it looks like if you cut it in half it'll just fall out from the sides, since there's nothing to keep it in place. There's a technique to split these older ones
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DgNpKT2BBnQ
but the guy said "Not with my current skill" so I don't think he's comfortable enough yet to try it
>>
>>14242973
I think It's a better idea to display it on a shelf rather than the ceiling.
>>
>>14242904
How well would that work though? Surely the skirts would be prone to falling off the brass rod if it weren't glued.

What's the best sword to do Obari poses with?

In 1/144 scale?

In 1/100 scale?
>>
>>14243078
I'm not entirely sure, as I don't really have any older kits to do that on, but I'd wager that friction is enough to keep it together unless you're pulling it from the sides.
>>
>>14242285
I bought mine for pretty cheap, it's the same as the Slaughter Dagger and the Gunbarrel is cool to have on display by itself.

>>
Say, what's a good SEED MG to get someone as a gift? They like the ∞ Justice and Impulse, think the Strike Freedom is too busy, and feel indifferent towards the Saviour fucking how?
They prefer SEEDshit to 00shit if that gives you anything to work with.
>>14242089
>>14242095
Thanks fampiés. I may or may not get it down the line.
>>
>>14243180
I personally collect SEED kits and the MG Impulse and Infinite Justice are both great kits, personally they are probably better than the MG Strike Freedom. All of the SEED 10 year anniversary MGs are some of the best out there, and if you just want a sturdy kit then the Buster is a great choice. If you want something to just represent the series then going for a Strike or Impulse is not bad. The old Strike is still the best of the old MGs but it'd probably be better to get the ver.RM.
>>
>>14243196
They've got an Impulse already, same with ∞ Justice. Probably shoulda said. I think they went in for the Impulse over the Strike.

I'll browse the 10 years.

>>14243109

>>14246197
It's really not the same when you haven't seen these things in action. I strongly suggest watching Gundam, or at the very least watch some battles that your model kit was in.

For SEED it's not as big of a deal because the battles are pretty crappy but for most else you're going to want to look up a couple YouTube clips or something.
>>
>>14246197
What board are you from?
>>
>>14246197
If I were you I would've started with a modern HG kit instead. RG kits are a little harder to deal with for a beginner, and the Justice has serious weight issues with the backpack if its not on a stand. Good luck though!

>>14246224
I guess I'm maybe approaching it from the wrong angle. My vector into my purchasing decision was this. Looking around 4chan -> /m/ this thread (earlier iteration) -> the guide -> amazon -> and then I just chose Justice for the color scheme.

Now that I've bought it I see that Gundam Seed isn't a favorite timeline and I don't really want to devote the time to watching a lesser series. I might try to start uc this weekend.

>>14246252
It won;t be that bad, just be careful and take your time. C:
>>
>>14246252
Don't let that dissuade you. In fact, watching SEED purely through YouTube clips might be the best way to enjoy it because you get all the battles of your MS design with none of the crap. On the other hand, the #1 rule of /m/ is to not listen to other people's opinions because they're usually wrong, so watch it and form your own opinion. However the other anon was right, RGs are a horrible choice if you're a total beginner because you're guaranteed to fuck up on your first regardless and RGs will give you plenty of opportunities to fuck up. If you wanna watch UC to get into gunpla then be warned, it's a pretty big investment of time. Gunpla is usually a supplement to the show so you can enjoy it after the screen turns off, not the other way around. I'd suggest going on along and finding what designs you like. If it's an AU, jump right in, otherwise get on the train for production order UC.

Speaking of, although it's 100% fine to watch SEED with no prior knowledge, it was initially intended as kind of a reboot to the original UC timeline so you'll make a lot more connections if you watch UC first.
>>
>>14246256
It seems I'll only get to Seed if I get really hooked. I hope I still like Justice after I watch it.

>>14246257
Definitely not going to rush it. As of now I have half of Saturday set aside to start it.

>Start with the newest series
Of UC? No friend, for UC you go from the start with the original MSG. Either the show or movies. There are guide images on /m/, check the archives for any guide thread. The newest UC show would be Thunderbolt or Origin, both offering heavily altered looks at the same time period that the original MSG takes place in. It's best to either start at MSG or pick an AU you prefer and watch that. For the newest AU that would be Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans. The designs in it are neat and melee focused and the models are very cheap and well made, if that matters to you.

Man, just watch it and form your own opinion. You might like it and it won't be a waste of time, whilst you might not like UC

>>14246309
>Pretty much committed to UC at this point.
Then start with the 0079 TV show.
Take your time with it, too. The characters grow on you much more than they do in the movies, and the longer experience is worth it. Feel free to check the movies out when you've finished the series, but they have nothing new except a few minutes in total of re-done animation.

You'll find that a lot of us made the same sorts of mistakes.
Nowadays I scrutinize models from older series thoroughly if I'm interested in a kit. Sometimes it's inconsequential (I still picked up an HG virtue, and it's a solid kit despite some of the shortcomings shared with older engineering) but at least I know what I'm getting into.
Usually I check for articulation, the type of joints used for the arms and legs (ball vs peg) and then color separation.
Nowadays I'm really not disappointed in the kits I'm buying, but you'll find that you need to really wrestle with your kit standards vs the designs you really like.
Sometimes, sacrifice is necessary. Live and learn, anon.

Snap building a Schwalbe Graze, just have the leg and back thursters left, might do it this evening.

I don't really like the design as much as I thought I did. I'm the Anon who snapped the horn a week or so back and fixed it with plastic cement. It doesn't look great, but good enough for a snapfitter like me.
There's still a few things that need cleaning up or redoing like the lining on the gun, and sanding some of the nub marks

I'd show you my very first attempt at painting, but I literally burned it in a fire because of how bad it was and how much I hated myself for it.
I used spray cans in a basement with absolutely no ventilation, I didn't even prop it up with sticks or prime it or anything, I just set the parts down on the dirty ass floor and sprayed until it was covered in the thickest coat of shame I've ever seen.

The original GM is the best, and looks great when displayed together with the Gundam, in my opinion. GM Striker is also really good, like some anons said. The type C, Powered, and Sniper II are good ones as well. I really like the designs of the Command and Cold Climate ver, but the kits just.. aren't great.

Here are the basics, or at least what I remember:
>When starting the spray, spray away from the model and then spray over it. If you start the spray on the model, it could splatter paint which looks ugly.
>Don't spray too close
>Don't spray too far
>Buy a gas mask or you die.
>Be sure to clean the entire brush properly after you're done, or else the paint will dry and clog the brush or break it or something.
>Don't spray when it's windy or the wind might blow all the paint fumes into your eyes. I learned that one the hard way. Yes it was stupid. Yes I'm stupid.

That's all I can remember right now. It's not that hard or complicated anyway, the rest you'll learn as you go along.
