I think Getter Go is my favorite Getter design. The shape of the head and chest are great. Though, even in it's own manga, I feel it didn't get enough attention. By the end, it was forgotten for Shin Getter.

Getter Robo Go in the anime has the circular fan blades, but that's pretty much the only major distinction from the manga version. Later in the Go manga it does get the teeth and the pupils. So for clarity's sake there are four Getter Robo Go designs?

Simple design/simple color scheme does not equal boring, mate. A lot of effective design is on the simpler side of things.
That being said, Space Development Getter could use a bit more color to make it pop. The aqua color could be utilized more, maybe a splash of red instead? Regardless, it's all minor aesthetics. Pure blue and white looks cool in it's own right as well.

Why does the anime Go need a Boomerang Saucer and a rocket punch?
In terms of a projectile, it's a hell of a lot faster for him to fire off the rocket punch then it is for him to grab the saucers and throw them. I guess the advantage with the saucers is the spikes can tear through stuff when they are thrown? Tom: Getter Robo: Armageddon is my FAVORITE Mecha anime of all time. It is the best, there is no other contender, it automatically gets a 25 out of 10. End of story. Buuuuuttt because Linny almost certainly has a different opinion lets get this party started! Getter Robo is a show I grew up with, one of the first few Mecha I watched in my very early teen years. But Linny this is your first time watching it right?
Linny: Yes it is. If you readers may recall I am biased against mecha anime but this was my birthday gift to Tom and you know what, I actually enjoyed myself. The story in the anime however was really difficult for me to follow as this was a part of a series that we dived right into so I was pretty lost most of the time. That however was my fault for not watching the precluding series and not the anime's fault.That said I gotta say for a mecha anime, it had amazing action. You're going to hate me for this but it was kinda like a Michael Bay transformer movie for me, the explosions kept me happy enough to not get turned off by the lack of an understandable plot.

Tom: Well, not the most flattering comparison but I can't disagree entirely. Getter Robo Armageddon is hard to follow unless you've read the original manga. In fact the anime itself is a sequel to a radio drama (which unless you understand Japanese is something you can't really appreciate, heck I don't know Japanese so I won't ever get to hear it.) But I think what Getter Robo lacks in comprehensible story it makes up with charm and flare. The art has its own unique retro feel and often times you can tell the budget is skyrocketing in places and whenever it plummets it never does so for long or becomes too cringe worthy.
Linny: So basic story without too many spoilers is that amorphous aliens blob creatures are taking over earth and its up to our Getter Robos to save us, no big surprise there. But the show packs in a few nice plot twists and even manages to sneak in some fleeting and somewhat nice touches of human emotions every now and then. I really liked the design of the characters and robot suits . Every episode flowed smoothly without feeling like a waste of time and helped keep the adrenaline pumping through all 13 episodes.

Linny: AHAH!! You publicly admit it. I feel so vindicated and less of an idiot for being rather flabbergasted and blank when the series ended. However, given its over the top nature and extravagance I feel the mysterious and a little WTF-just-happened ending adds to the fun of it. A choose-your-own-interpretation, if you may. My final words of advice would be to go into this show for the action and visual indulgence, rather than for the story itself and while I would DEFINITELY not pick this show as you or your partner's first forray into the mecha genre, if you both find mecha enjoyable, you must definitely check it out. Overall, I give this show a 8.0, taking away 2 points for its hard to follow plot but managing to entertaining us all the way nonetheless. (p.s As i type this, Tom's skype profile pic is the Getter Robo and I feel like its glaring at me for taking away the 2 points. So if I disappear..the Getter Robo did it.)

Getter Robo is a great show if you want to see giant robots battle evil amorphous, shape changing, huge claw and fang monsters and tons of oil and blood spilling across the place. Its story may at times be hard to follow but despite that I think it remains one of the most fun shows to watch if you're in the mood for more flare than plot.
