A person that use to sub back in the day said that their subs were lacking and it's put a stigma on them that they're crap subbers. But from what I can tell, their subs are basically fine. My advice? Pick a series or two you really think he'd like, get raws + subs, go through and make sure grammar, spelling, and punctuation are perfect, then burn him a DVD or Blu Ray box set. Make it quality as fuck. When he finishes Kindergarten or whenever the next big exciting event is after you know he can at least somewhat read, give it to him. It'll help him learn to read, he'll have fun with it, and he'll have a nice quality box set of SS, something people in this thread would kill for.

Yeah, and I really like that he wasn't a one-note goofball the whole time either. Whoever was in charge of the character development in Gekiranger did a good job, because the main 3 and the villains all had quite complex motivations, they're just so interesting (to me at least) compared to most other series. I especially like how childish/selfish/catlike Jan seems while at times he's the wisest of them all due to his wild upbringing, and just relies on reflexes and senses rather than thinking too hard like Retsu and Ran (who are also both interesting characters in their own rights).

And that's what Boukenger had. A bad plot. Three villainous factions (four kind of?) and none of them ever felt like an actual threat, merely inconveniences like they were traffic on the Boukengers' way to work. I guess that worked well to make the Boukengers look really strong and in control, but it just seemed pointless having that many enemy factions with seemingly different motivations and not developing them further than "red ones" "white ones" "blue ones" ("furry robot ones") and expecting the finales to mean something when we know barely anything about what they want. Hell, even the Ninninger villains were more memorable than the Boukenger ones.

I think making their threat too big would deviate the focus from searching Precious to destroying them. There were even a few monsters of the week not tied to the factions.
Generally, I liked how when they really became actual dangerous threats it was in the build up to their actual destruction.

Half the series was perfecting their triangle, then all of a sudden there's Geki Violet. They played that off with him not completely affecting their triangle. That's fine.
It took maybe three episodes to establish him.
Then suddenly, there's Geki Chopper! And that's it! He's just there now! Immediately after Geki Violet is introduced.

Gekiviolet and Gekichopper are basically diametric opposites. Gou's Fukami Wolf Fist was essentially of his own creation while Ken's Rhino Fist is a copy of the very first Beast style. So one is essentially a very old style while the other is supposedly a brand new style.

They knew that they were coming from the start though considering that toy guides become available months in advance.
What doesn't make sense is why they'd push the whole "triangle" thing when they knew that more heroes would be coming. Then there's also how the narrative afterwards pushes the whole "destined rivals" thing with Jan and Rio, excluding everyone else. And then in the finale they suddenly try to go back "wait, no guys, the triangle is the really important part!"
