There's never really been a Getter pilot who couldn't function in society, and they certainly never got traumatized from actual combat. Hayato did have a few screws loose initially but once he found an outlet for his intellect and skills he calmed down. You'd never suspect he used to be an infamous terrorist just from the hotel arc in G.
Ryoma was good friends with the Saotome Institute's staff, and he never displayed any antisocial outbursts. He did get traumatized by the incident caused by Shin Getter's initial activation and the nature of Getter rays themselves but he still got a lover, opened a dojo and fucking attended judo tournaments.
Musashi and Benkei had self esteem issues if anything but that's certainly no different from the average autist from here. Plus they got to pilot a cool robot and go down in history as heroes.

To be fair, Gundam and a large majority of 'real robot' aren't actually trying to be real. That should be fairly obvious. Plus, although Gundam did codify the 'real robot' subgenre, the term didn't pop up until long after. I'll admit that Tomino did want it to be more realistic than it ended up being though. Hell, most of all the Minovsky physics BS was published in magazines by some random dudes.

No, it was invented in the 80s to advertise the programming block with Sunrise's Gundam-like series, before Zeta came.
That's why Dunbine ends up classified as a Real Robot, since it was part of the same timeslot that also aired Xabuncle, L-Gaim, Zeta, etc.
