***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, dont make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

How hard is RG Zeta to transform than the 2.0 MG
>>
>>14149563
You get 3 transforms before it becomes a live grenade
>>
>>14149563
It's a more fragile transformation because of the smaller parts and more fragile inner frame, so it's not as "hard" as it is "stressful"
>>
What's the best Zaku or GM model kit, both in price and content? I'm looking for one with plenty of accessories, like that cracker grenade for Zaku.
>>
O shit, I just ordered a HGUC Jesta and the MG Nu gundam ver ka. I can't wait for them to arive!

Really man, folks here can't recommend it enough.
Shit's one of the most solid MG ever, lots of neat gimmicks, got a pair of neat functional emotion manipulators, very poseable, LED compatible, and at a very reasonable price as well.
Tacticool as fuck. It's currently my only grunt MG.
>>
>>14149660
I don't know anon, The jesta is mostly for more practice and the Nu gundam is my first MG (I got it because I could get it 20 euros cheaper then anywhere else).

I was going to use the Jesta to practice painting on. It seems like a waste to practice on a MG or am I wrong about this?
>>
>>14149660

You reminded me that I had some gunpla leds with batteries, so I checked out the gimmick. It's pretty cool looking but I assume it's something you can't keep on for display for very long.

Where are some places in America where i can get gunpla?
>>

Other /m/ posters' houses.
>>
>>14149815
go to a good hobby store.

most of them sell kits for not-rape prices. also, the whole 'online is cheaper' thing may or may not exist...i've seen HG's go for 30 online, but 18 in the store.
>>
>>14149815
Local hobby stores, Gundam Planet has a physical location, Amazon ships quick if the kit is fulfilled by them. Barnes and Noble stores are often known to have a gunpla shelf, I've heard IBO kits have been popping up at GameStop stores, and weirdly enough, Walmart's online store stocks gunpla.

I have a friend who works at a certain online Gunpla retailer.

He says that the US will be receiving an official direct channel for P-Bandai Gunpla kits soon. He won't tell me when and what products will be offered there yet.
>>
>>14149915

Ah, that's fair. I can't read moonrune, so I can't tell what that article says. At least that makes my collection that much better than this silly P-Bandai set. Seems like a waste to me, to have 1 model that can do 7 different things, when you could have 1 models that do one thing each.

To be fair, I don't even have room now to accommodate this simple set up any more. Ideally you would set it up with secondary lights and reflectors and other stuff you can easily learn from figure/toy lighting tutorials, but this is what I got by with and "making the best out of making do with crap".

Sufficient lights, background, tripod/stable camera.

The "issue" with Samuel is that he does not personally design all of them. A lot of the sheets are either shared from same 3rd party Chinese modelling vendors the same as those on Taobao (evident since you can order same design sheets from him and vendors on taobao), printing them from rather old "vectors" from the modellers' pools, bad vector upscales/live-traced files, or just older lower dpi stock from not-so-recent years. Although his stuff are alright and he DOES custom prints, you can tell his stuff are from left and right when even his sheet thickness/colour vary from one sheet to another.

>>14150420
I'd say what you have set up is a lot better than my Ikea colony laser with tracing paper as diffuser.

at 1/144 scale the vector scaling issues are annoying as hell. Not to mention he can't replicate official bandai patterns and sheets.

The paper that I was using back then was actually quite nice paper stock. I stole it with permission from my uni studio. I asked for some shitty A3 size paper and my lecturer just told me to take this not knowing whose it was, which was A0 sized. It was what you can say is maybe 80% matte but with very little grain as compared to normal art-store rough black paper, so couple that with some distance the paper looked silky smooth.

If you're with some institutes or maybe even as a potential customer, it may be worth asking for paper stock samples delivered to you from papersmiths or similar online store and just use those as backdrop, given they give you a nice enough size.

Not so much what's a good kit as is what's a good recaster. I'd recommend you avoid e2046 like the plague.

Also, don't buy 1/144 just because you think the small size makes it easier. Most resin kits tend to be very partsy, and 1/144's are RG-levels of complexity. Try to grab something 1/100.
>>
>>14151764
Can you play with Resin kits like you do with HG or MG or RG kits
>>
>>14151107
1/100 Graze added more detail that really could have been on the 1/144 for the sake of an upgrade, but the Kimaris Trooper was already covered in detail to start with so there's no particular improvement there.

A lack of panel lines on a HG tends to be a deliberate choice rather than a restriction.

Guys, I'm just looking for some shop talk-ish consideration here.
My scenario is that I haven't built any gunpla since the HG Gelgoog Cannon was new, and now I got a cheapo RX-78-2 Revive off of Amazon.

I'm loving how articulate it seems to be, but I notice that the new kits (after looking at more new model manuals on Hobbysearch) have a fair amount of plastic-on-plastic joints?
In the old days, the wrists and elbows and knees were largely plastic-male-to-polycap-female joints; the new kits use normal(?) plastic in those same areas rather than polycap hinges.

I'm particularly worried in the elbows and wrists. Will the plastic there begin to wear out with more and more posing? Or is the new models' plastic of vaguely polycap-esque plastic that is more durable?
>>
>>14153479

No. They don't use plastic on plastic. They've just gotten a LOT better about hiding the polycaps.

Engineering for these kits has come a long way since you left the game. ESPECIALLY when it comes to the RX-78 2. Scoop that motherfucker up and get your ass into 2016.
>>
>>14153587
So the grey runner is just some sort of more-rigid polycap?
>>
>>14153618

The dark grey runner is much less rigid than the other ones. I'm not 100% sure what it's made of, but it has enough give to be like a polycap, but at the same time is solid enough to be a hard plastic.
>>
>>14153618
It's a ps joint made of slightly softer/more rubbery plastic than the styrene used on the armor parts. It holds up decently well so far.

The real problems I'm still thinking about fixing are problems with the original design.

The ejection port isn't big enough to make sense for both magazine sizes; the casings from the rounds in the (strangely wider) SMG mag that I've put on the bottom for the DMR would be longer than the ejection port. I think I will expand the port and then add a plate to the internals of the smaller magazine receiver piece that covers the rear section of the hole back to original size. That way the port size is correct for whichever size magazine is attached.

The other issue is the lack of a charging handle, I could either add one where the circle is now or relocate it. I think I will relocate it like in pic because it is a superior design that lets you keep the gun closer to the firing position and still use the handle, With things like the groza you need to kind of turn the gun sideways so your left hand can reach the handle which is even more awkward when the action is behind the grip.

Barbatos-fag here, and here's what I've finished so far. Gonna go back on 4th and 6th forms to panel line the legs and feet since I really like how it turned out on 2nd form. As for the Ritters, those are top coated and done, and looking fabulous behind my Barbies. What do you guys think?

I had to get some cement to hold the backpack/wing unit on. The tiniest bit of movement would cause it to fall off. That is my only real complaint on it.
>>
>>14154179
>>14154189

I'm not sure. I have this autistic thing about having to make them as screen accurate as possible >inb4 QUALITY since that's how I am with my cosplay, but the ritters could use some heraldry or something. I do have a Schwalbe Graze that I had to steal the grabby claw and thigh boosters off of for 5th Form (which I am gonna work on next) so I might try my hand at making a custom Graze with that, since, again, screen accuracy autism. For now, I'm just trying to make them look like the cartoon, since I really like the IBO kits.
>>
>>14153151
Agreed. They were terrible. The wings were a solid piece rather than the 10+ they are now, the color separation was god awful and they needed a lot of painting to look nice

>What are you doing Freedom?

>>
>>14153912
Just a /k/ moment, but look at the bolt in his model. It's a conventional rear-heavy bolt. However for the mag size and bolt, it'd need at least as-much again the bolt length of travel for the receiver to work (unless it's telescoping, and from the picture doesn't seem to be).
Koborov's magic bullpoop most likely has a (ridiculously unconventional) telescoping bolt of some sort (that really nobody's ever seen outside of the museum in Russia where it's held).
>>
>>14150927
I don't hate mine, what's so awful about building it?
>>
>>14154037
I think the port size for what it is is already bretty gud. You could fluff it as the rounds being semi-caseless and/or telescoping rounds (or a freakishly long OAL due to a horsecock-length pill in a tiny casing, like that soviet underwater harpoon gun).

As for the charging handle, it makes sense. However I think you can keep the charging handle where it is. I would just add a nub in the center so that there's something for the MS to "pull."
I do like your idea of moving it to the "gas tube" area. I think you could keep both and pretend the left-side handle is non-reciprocating, and the right one is reciprocating+forward assist.

In theory, it has some sense in-setting. Beam Spray Guns have a short "focusing coil" and a shorter length of I-field stabilization of the beam from the tiny barrel. It acts more like a shotgun (that's shaped like a pistol); reasonable spread out to medium-short distances, and extremely powerful up close (akin to normal shotguns per se, which is like being shot 6 or so times with a pistol caliber depending on the shot gauge and spread).

Conversely, normal beam rifles have a longer distance of I-field stabilization and hold the resulting beam coherent for longer shot distances before it dissipates into its constituent mega-particles.

A lot of this is overturned with Zeta's crazy MS (like the Doven Wolf's ridiculous chest mega-particle guns, or the Zaku 3's silly skirt beam guns), but the in-setting fluff is at least reasonable.

fabbgeese update. Fuck this paint, I cant get a consistent coat worth a fuck. I had to strip both forearms down twice cause it kept pooling on either end of the part and drying in a big glob. I can now see why spray guns are so nice. It would have been awesome if I could have thinned this down. And i'm also out of paint, I need to get more. I did take some transparent paint to the little clear plastic "eyes" part. I really liked how that came out. All in all so far it's turning out nice. its been pretty warm around here. I think the cans were fine. Its probably mostly to do with my shit level of paint skills. Its a florescent paint. You warm the cans up in very warm water to raise the pressure inside the can and get the paint as consistent as possible. It helps with your spray quality (as much as that's possible with cans)

The Sinanju and the Stein are both fantastic builds and share some framework with the Nu so they are safe bets and would be treading familiar ground for you.

Turn X is probably the most unique MG currently made, and would complement your Turn A

Likewise, Sazabi ver Ka to go with the Nu. Expensive though.

Can't go wrong with a Tallgeese

Jesta is fun and fairly easy to customize

Ex-S is one of a kind but takes up a lot of space and money.

And a personal favorite of mine - Shin Musha Gundam. Definitely an eye catcher
