It's debatable. Katina has Accel, which is useful for getting the Gigan where it needs to go, and the Gigan's tankiness covers for her sub-par defenses. On the other hand, Russel is unkillable in it and I think he has the better shooting stat, which is good for spamming the beam move.

Well, anything that's secret always gets the short end of the stick, especially in the earlier SRW days. I think UX primarily, and BX to a lesser extent, are the only SRWs that did anything really interesting with secrets after you unlocked them.
Plus I'm presuming that Erika probably doesn't have much of a reason for there to be anything more than an occasional "I agree with Kouji" given 64 is the only game that even acknowledges her, I'd say. It's R, you have to wait a few turns for both the X and the DX to charge up.

You want the G-Bits and Tifa? Take this route.
No insufferable quest to get the DX an extra fucking attack for like maybe 8 more stages left in the game so maybe it can finish something off at a decent amount of HP without you babysitting it first.
I don't know, maybe it's not far to compare, since SRWR is really simplistic, but fuck, I think I'd prefer that to the gaunlets that the other games make you go through. Not only do you get the G-Bits on SRWR, you get to use them in a Satellite Cannon Attack too! SRWZ's is almost not worth it.

R was great in general for secrets, GX got a bunch of other assorted MS, Black Selena was available straight from the start, for one thing I can't think of that many games that let you have God/Master Gundam & Fuunsaiki altogether.
