I like how Jurgen gets to call custom unit. And not just custom as in "we need a pilot fo dis shit and since yo girlfriend and her seeing dog is already piloting it" or "since I'm intimate with this machine having operated it all through its upgrades, I might as well steal it", but, if the information on /m/ is all correct so far, "since I (helped) make it, AND I'm piloting it, I might as well go one step further and have them paint it the way I want it".
Given the policies of his home nation in ML during that era, that's like wearing the One Ring to escape while standing in front of Sauron and the 9 Riders.Still, waiting for the official colored lineart, though, this level of meta referencing is too obvious for ML. Especially Schwarzesmarken, which has been light on the meta referencing outside of its character designs (which were done shortly after TE's, anyways)

I'm not really concerned about the lineart, LD10's release was months ago and someone else on /m/ already posted evidence of the MiG-21P's release in LD10 around that time. I'm pretty sure I saw the design well before today, but I just can't put my finger on when or where.
I'll just hold on whether that scheme is official, though; on account of that LD's lineart is always black/white (which makes it easy to mess around with), the color scheme distribution is TOO precise and looks more like someone having fun with the talk of the forums than an age-released image.Aznable's Zaku II has the skirt armor to even the color distribution out. Jurgen's -21P looks like it's wearing a leotard.

But that's only a fraction of the GM family and the GM line has far more variation than the Muv Luv TSFs which have the same frame and face for everything. It's like the problem with Okawara Gundams on steroids.

The 666th only got stripes of paint for their troubles and like you said, Beatrix had to work towards getting custom colors. She's on top of the pile of a very small group of exceptions, most of them being the 666th's MiGs, and she spent the majority of her time in a stock-colored -23 anyways. Takeru was chucked into the XG-70, and Yuuya stole the Phase 3 built by Heinemann, but Jurgen's unit is requested by himself.
Of course Jurgen's tasked with the development of the -21P, so he's basically running the project and in charge of requisition overall, even if on the surface it's just putting a new head unit together. And if Jurgen's on good terms with Strachwitz when the -21P rolls along (plenty of time considering that he'd have graduated the military academy and have served for a few years before the -21P was ever considered), the matter is easily handwavable on account of that if the general's aide comes over with a requisition document stamped with the general's seal for several dozen liters of various red paints, you don't question the requisition document.
I just find it interesting that, considering that the Stasi would keep an eye for anyone standing out, he's basically (unintentionally) standing out from the crowd, and the first main character in ML to request a customization that was intended directly for him and not dropped on him or have to take it by force (superseding even the Nippon Royal Skittles since the Zuikaku came in at 1982).

I love how proactive Jurgen is though. It'll probably get him killed, but it's very refreshing compared to the usual ML protagonist who's either a reactionary (Theo), or is someone else's patsy (Takeru).

It only jobs for less than five episodes in a single series, Tim.Granted, it's a really big jobbing, literally the job of jobs, it jobs both as a drone and when piloted. Two MiGs could chase a Type-00 but a battalion of F-16s couldn't stop a few unarmed TSFs from fleeing their hangar and another battalion of F-16s had trouble catching a single XFJ. This has literally been going on for almost five years now (probably peaking in 2013-2014). That aside, -18 is a limelight unit in TDA due to how few of them survived the "High Laundry" setting and their majority pilots being what's left of the Marines, and the majority of -15s you see are the E variant which are good enough to match everything not 3G and then some.
Not being drone network'd by people who've never trained in tactics (never played a vidya, much less an RTS) or being operated by refugee terrorist scum, with simulator training hours probably counted in less than tens in only god knows what kind of last-generation shaky-seat rustbucket simulator put together from discarded shit and plastic ropes, probably helps the machine's operating reputation too.

At least, they can't keep trussing up the SM girls for the covers forever. Sure, they could do one more story each for Der Hommusar or Angrynette, but I'm not really seeing anything more than short stories in the next LD for them, considering what Sylwia got, and the other female characters are either irrelevant or done, one way or another. BiS conveniently blankets Iris and Beatrix so we can set them aside as done as well.
Honestly, I'd rather have this one-track marketing after the disastrous 2008-2012 period when they started up Chronicles, Total Eclipse, TDA, Euro Front, and then SM back-to-back, and then juggled each of them like heated plates. TE was the first to actually conclude anything with its halfway cliffhanger during the original Tech Gian run while the rest saw enough sporadic releases to remind you that they still exist. SM is actually the first to fully complete in its maiden run (the novels), but, since they're going to stretch that Bernhard tender note out as far as they can, let's see how far it can go.

No, it's listed under the same section as SMVN2. Those titles are "in the works". Kimimuv and MelMani are on the same disk anyways, so it's not really "competing" for the project team, but rather, they're not going to release one without finishing the other.
And the Kimimuv/MelMani promo site has been up since 2011. It's already year five in production limbo, crossing into six by the end of this year.
I'm hedging on SMVN2 coming out first because there's no way age would let the momentum slide. I assume that another fit of madness won't take Kouki in its grip and there will be no BiS VN + anime adaptation after the novel wraps up, so, depending on when they get SMVN2 out, and, depending on if, over managing the progress of Strike Frontier (it should be minimal, they're not completely making the game themselves, right?), Euro Front, that VR thing, working with Degica for the localization of all the extra functions to the re-release VN, if they remember that they have an FC obligation to fulfill before they decide to take final call for the TDA > Extra densha line, they might just prioritize Kimimuv/MelMani after this.

They are because sunrise, but pretty much every single thing in that picture is the same gm frame with SUPER SPECIAL ARMOUR PLATING on it. And that's a compilation of all gms from side materials and other stuff, which all agree that every single one is just a GM with stuff on it.
Compare that to ML where everything has the same silhouette, and you can see where he's coming from. There are other mecha like Evas which have this problem too but even they state its the same stuff encased in different things. The fact that these are named after distinctly different things yet look the same rubs people the wrong way.

I don't think it's 5 years. There's a 3-year gap or so between Unlimited and the beginning of Babylon/The Day in 2004, followed by TDA 00 in July 2004. TDA 01 takes place in 2005 October, slightly over one year later. By TDA 02 within two months, they're at year's end in 2005. TDA 03 takes place during the early months of 2006.
1 year plus is probably no issue but 5 years is really stretching it, even for orbital stations used as staging areas for the ODs.5 years of that same shitty orange juice packet. Weaker men would rather space themselves than take another sip.

I'd say Beatrix is the more disappointing character. Lise kept the show interesting at least, but Beatrix was a pretty one-note "look how evil I am" character, and not in the fun way but in the way that makes you question how she manages to hold onto power. Axmann really should've been the main villain if you ask me.
Iris was also a huge disappointment too as she barely appears in the second half of the series, and barely does anything that badass. She's boring and I don't really get all the love she gets.
