I tried watching a giant robot anime and it was entirely technobabble I didn't understand. Do the target audience understand all these words?
>>14112064
It wasn't technobabble, it was Japanese. You should have been reading those words at the bottom of the screen. They're called "subtitles" and explain everything.
>>14112064
I can understand it because I'm not a dumbass.
>>14112078
Are you saying you've been a dedicated subscriber of japanese culture long enough to become a member of a specialized board of a specialized website, but can't even speak the language? かっこわるいですね
>>14112147
I've watched 4,500 hours of anime in the last 3 years, outside of that I've made no effort to learn Japanese, and I know like 5 kanji and almost all the hiraganas, and all of the katakanas. I can tell when subs are wrong though, since I can get the gist of what they're saying (about 40 - 60 % of the sentence, given its complexity) now without subs.
>>14112064
>technobabble
tell us a few of them and we'll tell you if you're a dumbass
>>14112193
And? Chances are you missed 85% of the visual information presented in those 4500 hours of anime and don't care because the animation is low on the list of reasons why you watch.
I've watched 85,000,000 hours of anime in the last one day, and I know Japanese better than any japanese person on earth. I own sixty seven katanas for each room in my house, and I fly the Imperial Japanese flag on my lawn (always at half mast to mourn poor hiroshima)
>>14112064
Almost all shows will explain their "technobabble" in the course of the first 3 episode in order to build a worldview for the audience, you are either:
>skips
>dylexic
>thinking your japanese is hot shit, watch raw and fail to understand anything outside of commonly-used phrase, hence why you don't understand the technobabble
>a combination of all the above
if you have problem understanding a show directed mainly to children or young adults you have serious problems in life.
I've folded 108,000,000,000 katanas in the last anime, and I've known Bushido (that's the samurai code for you gozaimajin) for more hours than any hiroshima victim on earth. I own six-hundred and sixty six edges for each katana in my rama, and I fly to the defense of Imperial Japan from my lawn (always at half chub to mourn the loss of the yamato nadeshiko ideal in modern-day japan)

You retard, anime isn't like film. There aren't intense facial movements that you need to pay attention to every frame.

Occasionally there are.
>>14112699
regardless, you'd have to be either crippled, or ADHD to not be able to read subs and watch the show at the same time.
>>14112707
Oh, I concur. Hell, I watch a lot of foreign shit and I don't have a problem reading the actors and the subs.
>>14112711
You must have a shallow view of the foreign shit you watch then. Characters are only one factor that an author uses to create a story, and often it is one of the least important.

The first reply to this should have been "which one" otherwise were just going off in all directions with no context.
Most super robot shows spell their goofy in universe shit out to you. Real robot shows will fan the explanations out so you will have to watch enough of it to understand their world. Stuff inbetween like Gundam will do a little of both plus give you a bunch of in universe political and historical info dumps.
If you aren't willing to invest in at least ten episodes then don't bother.

The internet is truly a wonderful place. I enjoy looking and listening to this late 80s - early 90s stuff. I was born in 1990, so I didn't quite get to experience it first hand. Something about this stuff really resonates with me for some reason.
>>14112810
Born in 86 so I was able to enjoy the 80s run off at the time plus the early 90s stuff.
I have a love for 80s Jpop and music that I can't explain.
>>14112769
Actors and subs don't matter much to the setting, do they? You can easily achieve a top-tier cinematic masterpiece with newbie actors spouting terrible lines.

It's amazing how that generic, throwaway pop music can hold the essence of a generation within it. Nobody would remember 99% of these songs but each one sounds so... well, so 80s. It blows my mind that you can just listen to this like a piece out of time.

I was just watching Blade Runner the other day. While the cities are cleaner, thankfully (at least for the most part) that movie was pretty prescient in how it portrayed the course of urban development. Tokyo or Hong Kong look almost like they were inspired by Ridley Scott's vision of the future nowadays.

This is what the rewind function is for. Did you know that with any decent video player you can press the left key to skip back 5 seconds? You can do the same with a wireless keyboard, remote control or even a joystick.
>>14116886
Why are you telling me this?
I catch these small beats in the animation, hence why I was disagreeing with Anon's generality.
What kind of shitposting are you playing at?
Also, my video player skips back 10 seconds;^)
