Babysteps, anon. You don't go from handcannons to a semi-automatic over night, you have to evolve the process over time, refine it,

Komarov's story is quite a sad one.

The top brass were pushing him to launch in the Soyuz 1, despite both him and the engineering team knowing it was a deathtrap. Though he nearly survived, despite him being able to stabilize the shitbucket and being able to maneuver it to reenter the atmosphere. He didn't survive the drop to earth since the parachutes didn't work.

And if he would have said fuck it and quit, his friend Gagarin was the backup pilot and would have had to go instead to certain death.

It's something about the nature of bureaucracy. Take the Challenger in '86--the o-ring deficiency wasn't just known in general, and reported for almost a decade before Challenger's destruction, (contractor) Thiokol's team immediately asked NASA to postpone the launch JUST to the afternoon.

"My God, Thiokol, when do you want us to launch--April?"

And so you had seven dead astronauts, and a disturbing new meaning for the acronym.

All for institutional pride and stubbornness, I guess?

Sending humans after Gagarin is okay. Main thing is not to get them killed.
>>14110970
There's a museum of space research in the basement of the monument. Pretty interesting - stuffed Belka and Strelka, copies and models of different sattelites, space suits, soviet survival kit (with a gun, food and a machete) and many more things.

The Fury
>As I returned from space, I had one vision. The world set ablaze. And do you know what I saw there? Fury!

The Boss
> I could see the planet as it appeared form space. That's when it finally hit me [...] the Earth itself has no boundaries. No East, no West, no Cold War.

You'd think after operating directly under the Boss, Fury would have mellowed out a bit. Could have gotten a cooler name in the process too. "The New Resolve" or something.

What a fucking tragedy.

>>14112218
Prior to MGS3's events they only worked together during WWII, if I remember it right. They probably didn't know that either had gone to space before the Cobras were reformed.
Then again, Boss could've just easily went "eh, let him be, that's his thing."

Gagarin didnt even piloted his spaceship, everything was automated, he was just passanger, although if something went wrong he was able to take controll.. if he opened envelope with code and typed this code on controll panel.

Sceintist suspected that space might drive humans crazy so this was supposed to be test of some sort.

>everything was automated, he was just passanger, although if something went wrong he was able to take controll.
What's there to pilot? calculate and wait for the deorbit burn?
Would you rely only on the first human cosmonaut, even if the animals were ok?

No wonder it was a plot in several B movies (and the Quatermass X-periment)
