I dont really mind the 3D, I maintain that it works well with RRs especially with the high speed dogfights inherent in Macross. The main hero and heroine feels cookie cutter, but that may be just because of the time constraints, the last scene seems to be on the right track of introducing them. The mecha are pretty standard Macross fare, but its nice seeing the old zent units in action, the wind guys have awful color schemes though. The songs, well you mileage will vary depending on how you feel about modern idolshit, but I will admit that I enjoyed giri giri eyes, reminded me of the Cutey Honey OP.
Also Bogue will be getting a lot of fanart.
Id give it a 7.5, I can see myself tuning in for next week.

Just finished watching it.
The first half was kinda slow but then again, most introductions are slow. The whole deal with the magical space pop idols was completely bonkers to be honest. I mean, at this point I expect dumb shit in Macross and I actually enjoy them most of the time but this shit was balls to the wall. Animation wise, it's the kind of stuff you expect from Satelight, a bit dated but it looked cool nonetheless. The music was okay I guess.
It was pretty fun overall and I liked it. I'm looking forward to the next episode.

I can't definitely see the improvement, but a part of me was expecting it to be absolutely perfect. And I saw quite a bit of pixelation in that intense dogfight sequence (right after that Windermere pilot said "Three, two, one" in German). Is that expected in these cases? Does the movie player I'm using affect that stuff, or is it limited by how the video was captured in the first place?

Did this episode just feel rushed as hell and disappointing to anyone else? I know that it's meant to be watched after the "preview" episode, and that it would be stupid to not do a proper introduction episode, but this first episode felt like it was trying to bridge the two and failed. It was at least 80% footage from the preview, most of it badly cut and rushed, and the only real new stuff was the additional ending with Hayate in the VF-171. Having never watched a Macross as it aired, are they just going to eventually release a "director's cut" version that's just the preview episode with the extra episode 1 scenes tacked on?Also, fuck gg and their being the only group willing to quick-sub this, I never liked the liberties they took and I wish someone competent would do the show.

The first 9 shows are the shows with the most viewers on MAL this season so far, in descending order.
The green ones are all the strictly /m/ shows. (Not counting Kabaneri because it's already up there and it's not completely and unequivocally mecha).
Macross Triangle is clearly far from the biggest show this season, but it certainly is the biggest /m/echa show this season.

In terms of selling, Delta is never going to beat IBO. It logically cannot. Idol shows have been over-saturated since Frontier, and Macross was never a massive franchise like Gundam.
