I dont really mind the 3D, I maintain that it works well with RRs especially with the high speed dogfights inherent in Macross. The main hero and heroine feels cookie cutter, but that may be just because of the time constraints, the last scene seems to be on the right track of introducing them. The mecha are pretty standard Macross fare, but its nice seeing the old zent units in action, the wind guys have awful color schemes though. The songs, well you mileage will vary depending on how you feel about modern idolshit, but I will admit that I enjoyed giri giri eyes, reminded me of the Cutey Honey OP.
Also Bogue will be getting a lot of fanart.
Id give it a 7.5, I can see myself tuning in for next week.

Personally, I like the idea that Hayate is a sadist that gets pleasure from chaining seagulls to walls.
Just finished watching it.
The first half was kinda slow but then again, most introductions are slow. The whole deal with the magical space pop idols was completely bonkers to be honest. I mean, at this point I expect dumb shit in Macross and I actually enjoy them most of the time but this shit was balls to the wall. Animation wise, it's the kind of stuff you expect from Satelight, a bit dated but it looked cool nonetheless. The music was okay I guess.
It was pretty fun overall and I liked it. I'm looking forward to the next episode.

I can't definitely see the improvement, but a part of me was expecting it to be absolutely perfect. And I saw quite a bit of pixelation in that intense dogfight sequence (right after that Windermere pilot said "Three, two, one" in German). Is that expected in these cases? Does the movie player I'm using affect that stuff, or is it limited by how the video was captured in the first place?

Did this episode just feel rushed as hell and disappointing to anyone else? I know that it's meant to be watched after the "preview" episode, and that it would be stupid to not do a proper introduction episode, but this first episode felt like it was trying to bridge the two and failed. I never even watched the preview. I heard mixed reviews so I came into ep 1 without high expectations. I thought it was great.
It's cliche and filled with a bit too much idol stuff, but it's macross. That's why I watch it. That and the VF action which was plentiful and enjoyable.

Yes, I went with mpv, as I too am stuck with the Mac I chose poorly, years ago. The pixelation in the dogfight scene I mentioned (>>14080652) is still present. Is one of reasons why Delta so far left some of us unimpressed, as except for streetdance CQC it wasn't in any way more 'muh magical idols' than Frontier.
