/m/, /k/fag here, what is in your opinions the best military mecha series, i.e an all-arms war with mecha as a key component that accurately shows the action both on and off the battlefield with mentions of logistics, supply etc
>>
>>14044545
It does not exist. The closest you will get is probably FLAG.
>>
>>14044545
The first things that come to mind are Patlabor and Dai-Guard, but they're not actually war stories (they're about police work and disaster relief, respectively).

you've come to the wrong neighborhood, fag. if you wanted a realistic mecha anime, they just be driving tanks instead.

What about tank sized mechas?

Nothing like this exists nor will ever exist. /k/fags and realismfags make me laugh. it's like trying to find polar bears in the antarctic.
>>
>>14044650
Half of Gasaraki. The half without magical Shinto deities being aliens in disguise.

But that's the best half.

Yep. There is no "realisitic" military anime, or military media in general for a reason. Same reason SF shows don't portray Asteroid fields as huge boring things with miles between each asteroid with no danger of ever running into them. It's boring and doesn't make for compelling fiction.

Granted there are stories that try to make /k/ shit work, and I haven't really gotten into them. But who wants to watch hours and hours of bored soldiers following regulations, and dicking about about for 23 episodes, for something to finally actually to happen for five minutes in the last episode. Who wants to watch whole episodes of bunk inspections, and rifle cleanings? (And just watch, somebody is going to show up and say, 'I want to.")

You might as well make a TV show about people talking about pi.

Generation Kill was pretty successful.
>>
>>14044545
Gundam Thunderbolt is pretty good for what it is. It's still Gundam, granted, but one of the most grounded in a while.
>>
>>14044765
>>14044829
GenKill is amazing.

Legitimately I am down for that weird slice of life experience that is stressed out and/or bored to tears military guys and their daily lives doing absolutely nothing 99% of the time.
>>
>>14044765
StarShip Troopers is basically that
Actually OP go watch the StarShip Troopers ova
>>
>>14044545
I guess LoGH is sort of like this? it's not mecha so much as it is spaceships and a lot of the tactics are "i have the better semicircle" but it does focus on the importance of competent middle-tier leaders, logistics, and so forth

Also M.A.S.H.
>>
>>14044982

M.A.S.H. was a sitcom that had action in the form of surgery and whatnot every episode.
>>
>>14044982
I'd watch M.A.S.H. The Animation. Too bad the Japs don't have a real-world war that's somewhat relevant and recent to base it off of. Part of me thinks they'll never live down WWII.
>>
>>14044993
Not combat action.
>sitcom
How would this affect anything.
>>
>>14045002

I'm not the same anon but I'd consider M.A.S.H. different from what you're describing because it's about a bunch of army medics, not soldiers. So them having surgery every episode IS their version of combat.
>>
>>14044982
>>14044993

Anyone know a good place to watch M*A*S*H* that's not Netflix?
They're saying they're gonna take it down next week and I don't think I have the time to squeeze 6 more seasons without seriously affecting my life.

Dougram has godly tiered combat with loads of infantry and support vehicles and shit, but the mecha combat is basically 0079 style moon jumping mechs.

Try Front Mission and Patlabor's backstory, but set it in a planetary colony, a moon or the asteroid belt. Basically, weaponized construction equipment that becomes the norm due to a conflict between two sides. And, this is not odd considering humanoid robotics and powered armor are viable technologies in the construction and rescue fields. You just have to create a realistic enough niche to justify why they would stay in combat doctrine, like tanks, which have people have criticized their continued use in modern combat.
>>
>>14044545
Not mecha series but check out the universe of Heavy Gear and Jovian Chronicles.

You might enjoy 08th MS team, it has a much more realistic approach than many other Gundam series and isn't a huge time investment.
>>
>>14048084
I didn't get to see all of Jarhead but I liked how it had a juxtaposition of absurdity you could only laugh at followed by some really downer shit that makes you feel bad for being amused by what amounts to workplace dickery on the battlefield.

I think the author is a fucking retard who doesn't know a single damn thing about the military, and its acquisition priorites.
>>

As someone who served in a military base in the outskirts of the city, I can say that those lunch acquisition episodes in Patlabor are fairly realistic.

>nobody mentoined argevollen
Engineers hate super prototypes, they're a pain in the ass to maintain and they need special parts.

Combined arms, focusing on the full unit, and plenty of other stuff, Argevollen is Front Mission: the anime. Please don't just the protagonist based on the first three episode, he grows out of generic protagonist actions very quickly.
>>
>>14052259
*don't judge

I think the pilots besides the protagonist got way less focus than the guys on the ground in hindsight, other than the new girl who arrived halfway through.
>>
>>14052259

Second this. Surprisingly good series, just be ready to accept that no one uses planes for a reason that is never explained but is assumed to have something to do with the sky being fucked up.

The mecha besides the Argevollen are pretty cool, and are surprisingly not as much of a pushover as you'd expect towards the protagonist mecha.

Like that one time Tokimune nearly lost a nife fight to a guy in a shit-tier grunt mecha.

>Battlefield conditions are everchanging, and whenever the balance of power sways, or when new weapons/tactics are introduced, soldiers must respond asap, and they need the right equipment for the job. Any RTS gamers knows the basics: when the enemy focuses on air, or heavy armor, or massed light formations, you better switch your production to meet the threat with anti-air, armor-piercing, or AOE armaments. Real wars aren’t so different, except that the turnover time from your weapon factory to the battlefield takes far longer — that time is costly, paid with the lives of soldiers.

Top kek. As if war is that much clear cut like a fucking video game
