If it wasn't for Victory, this, my friends, would be it; however, this wasn't difficult to put together, so it's come first. I've put all the details on Nyaa, so you can read my usual diatribe there, but most of you have probably seen my complaints over the last week or so about this BD.

As always, enjoy.

RX782 is too based for this world.

What are you going to do after you discard your trip?

My trip ain't goin' nowhere. I will still post under it if the topic is relevant, but I'd rather reduce my time on 4chan as a whole, than discard my trip.

Except right now no one has completed it because of the lack of seeds. Once you reach the same amounted downloaded as all the other leachers the speed slows down to a crawl while we wait for the rest to trickle down from the one seeder.

>>13954461
it's 23GB, by the time you reach that point, there will already be more seeders

you're certainly not downloading fast enough to reach that bottleneck anytime too soon, anyway

A couple years ago I'd be a little miffed at suggestion you know what I do think he's been a lot better ever since doing the MSG trilogy. If he does a straight rip like he did for his 0083, it might not be too bad. Worst problem I see with that one is it's just as washed out as the source which is really just Bandai's fault.

If nothing else maybe Bunny Hat will do it.

>EncodeGasm. The tag his releases are released under, "EG".

Not him for for years I thought it meant EvilGenius
>>
>>13955613
Yeah, he does that for most things but to be honest it's not that extreme for 0083 all on its own. The actual problem is that sharpening wasn't necessary. Bandai's mastering has enough of it already so it just accentuates a feature pointlessly.

You only think this because you're holding 0083 on a pedestal. Bonus features like this and the 08th MS Team short are done cheap and fast by design. In this case, it is actually a tie-in promotion for the 0083 Rebellion manga (if I'm not mistaken, the scenario is even directly lifted from a chapter) which is also why you're so put off that its art style doesn't match faithfully the OVA. They do these kinds of things because they ARE expendable and can be used as incentives because the cost of production is so cheap that they don't have to worry about losing sales. If it were ever intended to be a celebratory new installment all fans should see, I guarantee it would have been sold separately and have had Takashi Imanishi returning to direct it in full CGI like MS IGLOO.

>>
>>13953925
What's the deal with the subs? They're incredibly inconsistent with other shows.
Kycillia is Kishiria, Gihren is Giren, A Baoa Qu is A Bao A Qu (even if A Bao A Qu is the real spelling, it's not how it's officially written in katakana), and Jaburo is Jabrow. I mean if I didn't know what they were saying in Japanese I would be confused, but it just slightly ticks me off even if I know what they mean
>>
>>13955129
They'll probably pull it without notice like they did with their G-Reco encodes.

But Anon, if there's a version available in the US that means there's no need for torrents! Don't you know that every single anime torrent is only there in lieu of a licensed American release?

I'm not saying you shouldn't buy licensed releases when you can, if you're able to and willing you should feel free to, but to take down your torrents simply because a show got licensed is retarded to say the least.
>>
>>13963006
So an american version gets licensed, that's great, if you are an american. But with both DVDs and BDs Europe is their own region. So lol europoors I guess.
>>
>>13963006
What >>13963021 said. I don't live in 'Murica and those BDs aren't getting released locally, so yeah bravo OZC!
>>
>>13962835
It's because this came with the first wave of Gundam properties ever localized. The other two were the Mobile Suit Gundam movie trilogy dub and 0080 which use the same outdated lexicon. Gundam Wing was the start of the second wave and is when Bandai officially began hiring Mark Simmons as a translation consultant.

I deleted my previous post on this from a few minutes ago because I made it while groggy and irritable. I'll be more gracious this time.

https://www.sendspace.com/file/gw8vti

These are the OZC scripts for G-Reco that I extracted from my copies of his 720p encode. I knew the R1 announcement was imminent so I kept on his releases like a hawk because I had no idea when or if anyone else would do a BD encode. These should more or less sync up with any straight rip from Nyaa. Please share when possible so that we can just shut up about the matter and watch the show without HS's artifacts.
>>
>>13962999
I almost guarantee you this is the result of grading the show on less-than-suitable monitors. The color balance overall is much better than the 2000 master (seen on the R1), and it's much more consistent from shot to shot as well, but it's almost always grey and off-white, leading to think the monitors were either miscalibrated, or they actually used SD monitors to do the grade.
>>
>>13963021
OZC is american, why doe he have to be concerned with the rest of the world for free stuff?

Well, Episode 1 works at least. So far so good. Here's hoping the other 25 are just as well seeded.

In retrospect, I regret not getting 1080p in the first place since I figured that 720p was the native resolution the show was animated in and was satisfied with that on a personal level. But the reason I hoarded it all in the first place was out of fear that nobody would reupload. Of course, I myself aren't the type to do more than a low rent effort such as posting the scripts, so... I guess that's just how it is for everyone else? Haha, but at least I put the scripts out there. At least you can't say I never did anything of value, especially since HS is hardsubbed and Puff's version is trimmed to broadcast limits and filled with OCR errors.

I really dgaf so I don't know why I'm arguing on their behalf but a find + change all in aegisub is child's play. He could've done that easily. It doesn't require "translation" work whatsoever, just changing weird anomalies like "Duchy of Zeon"

But like I said in reality idgaf about this shit. It's been OK'd by Sunrise and remained the same even after standardization so good enough for them = good enough for EG = good enough for ME

Yet he's been revising Victory's subtitles, completely changing lines here and there.

The thing is, in episode 3 or 4 HE DID change Jabrow to Jaburo. In the episode that takes place in Africa he DID add a Translator's note saying something along the lines of "RX Note: I know it says Jabrow, shit sucks".
So my initial reaction was only to the first episode, and he *does* fix it in one or two episodes, but he lets it slide for the rest.

God, could you be any more pedantic and foolish.

Let me ask YOU a question. Are you even aware that desustorage's backups are STILL incomplete? Did you not notice that all posts from RX782 on /m/ between Feb 2012 and Sep 2015 are MISSING? That includes every post regarding the Turn A BD's, every mention of Hero Legends - the original translator for Victory and Turn A - personally revising the scripts for Box 1 or how they were cancelled for Box 2 in light of the R1's being announced and none of the posts where we were assured that he was already getting to work on revising Victory.

Yeah, I'm not playing this game. But all the same, congratulations. I freely concede that you've gotten under my skin as though you were a petulant child insinuating himself into a discussion beyond his years.

How awfully convenient that the only things that would prove your point are not in the period the desustorage archives cover.

Admit to being wrong, it's fine. We all make mistakes.
>>
>>13968955
Jesus christ, really?

Yes, a volunteer has been revising these. I've never revised subs myself beyond small localization corrections in very, very few cases. The 0083 cases mentioned in >>13967666 are one of the few, but they weren't made for the BD release. The BD subs are directly ported from the 2014 subs I made, which I'm fairly sure were better-timed versions of the V2 release I've made (This release now marks the 4th time I've encoded 0083). The V2, going back to I think 2011, is when I probably made that RX-Note. For what it's worth, the idea was floated that I could change the subs this time around to reflect the modern romanizations, and I briefly committed to that, but one, I'm lazy, and two, I kinda wanted to preserve that era of translation. It's literally among the earliest US translations, and for history's sake, it's worth keeping.
>>

>How awfully convenient that the only things that would prove your point are not in the period the desustorage archives cover.

Apart from the release, I don't remember a recent Gundam series giving me the same feeling of suspense and uneasiness the final battle of this one did.
Usually with Gundam you know the special snowflake MC will do it and succeed in everything he wants because the writer said so, but with 0083 Kou fails spectacularly despite trying his hardest, so he's not even a Shinji, he just wasn't good enough!
And it's great sendoff to a tense battle which is mainly a race against time.

Some of the last few episodes have this kind of red/white sheen on the left side of the video, that's really apparent when it pans, it also artefacts quite a bit. Some of the space scenes also have a slight red tint to them. Is this because they're still just using the old transfer?
>>
>>13971676
You *do* tend to see slight off-frame illumination on newer transfers, that might have previously been concealed, especially in dark shots, but my color correction was pretty extreme in the shadow range, so it occasionally banded and blocked in ways that are difficult to counter with filters. Thankfully this doesn't come up nearly as often as I feared, as 8bit video can only be pushed so far, but it does creep up from time to time.

I'll be sure to keep myself in line and be more humble in the future, on this anonymous imageboard. The shame will surely follow me around after this spectacular beating you've given me. On this anonymous imageboard.
I'm sure you, Anonymous, will be lauded through the ages for your cool-headedness, for how you kept your calm and didn't fly into a tirade against someone for not knowing something. I'm sure that in the future, your posts will be used as the example par excellence of debating on the internet.

Thanks anon. Just finished watching this series. Good stuff and big thanks to you for doing this!

On another note... Why is kou shooting up here? Is this a way for the pilots stay alert?
>>
>>13975136
No, they reveal in side stories that he has some serious problems with drugs and it hilariously involves his hatred for carrots. Apparently he got clean after but it was a "war makes you do bad shit" story in general so whatever .
>>
>>13975145
In case you're curious, the story was basically that the stress got to him early in training, he picked up the habit, his dealer (ex-military guy) lived next to a carrot farm and he always had a carrot while he was there, eventually hates the way carrots taste because of the drugs (implied to be heroin-like but with a performance-enhancing twist), tries to kick it during the OVA but uses it that one fight. After he stops piloting he learns to love carrots again.

Thanks for all your hard work RX782/EG.
You're planning on hanging up your encoder hat after you finish Victory right? Is there a greater than zero chance that you'll do 0080, G or X if/when they get BDs?
I'm sure you've answered these questions before, but I can't find them in the archives since moe hung itself.

Do you see the fucking swath of artifacts all over his binoculars?
>>
>>13991090
>.jpg
>>
>>13991193
Decent quality jpgs can't cause artifacting that bad. Only RX's encoding can.
>>
>>13991211
>>13991054
RX probably has his video player brightness down from the default or something so he can't see the issues when he views the eps. Only way I can hide it is by reducing the brightness and contrast from the default 0 to -15 in MPC-HC, although that is just hiding whatever they are (artifacts from his color correction?) since I can still make them out if I look hard enough.
>>
>>13991090
>>13991211
>>13991305
I'm pretty sure that's present in the original BD, http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/164265 has some similar issues.
>>
>>13991511
The color correction really brings it out though. The show was probably washed out for a reason: to hide that shit.
>>
>>13991054
Hey, OZC!
>>
>>13991546
Hey, RX! Why'd you color correct things when you knew it would bring out this shit? Encodes are supposed to limit additional visible artifacts, not create more!
>>
>>13991511
What exactly is it? The encoder of the BD not using enough space per ep and the BD bitstarving or is it something innate to the master? Because that definitely could not look like that on the original cel. It's too blocky to be an analog formation.
>>
>>13991537
>preferring fucked colors and brightness over some more visible blockiness that was already there.
To each their own I guess, but I think you're retarded.

>>13991556
Like I already pointed out earlier, I'm pretty sure it's a problem with the original BDs and not new artifacts from EG's encoding.

>>13991609
>The encoder of the BD not using enough space per ep and the BD bitstarving or is it something innate to the master?
That'd be interesting to know, though it wouldn't really help in any way. If I had to hazard a guess, I'd say it's an issue with the master since it's a pretty old one and they probably didn't have that good of an idea of what they were doing. RX782 would probably know best though, he's an awesome nerd about this shit.
>Because that definitely could not look like that on the original cel. It's too blocky to be an analog formation.
Oh definitely.

Reminder of what? That you can compare two different scenes? Post comparisons of the same scene.

It's just a comparison of animation "then" and now. You'd know that if you knew how to follow reply chains.

What's the difference between what OP posted and this
http://www.nyaa.se/?page=view&tid=157707
>>
>>13993997
OP's is the recent blue ray which came out not very long ago. What you linked to are encodes from an old DVD set from almost 6 years ago.
>>
>>13994011
So OP's version is a higher quality, making it the definitive one?
>>
>>13993997
Also about 20gigglebytes
>>
>>13994013
if you want quality and high resolution, go for OP's release

otherwise there are other releases if you don't want such a large download or are low on storage space
>>
>>13991556
I've answered this earlier in the thread, but you clearly didn't read it. I'm on mobile, so I'll be brief:

Yes, these are artifacts from the filter chain. They are *not* caused by the encode, nor are they technically in the source. Also yes, I knew full well that this was bound to creep up from time to time. Luckily, it doesn't happen as often as I feared, and I personally deem the end result as a net gain.

What you have to understand is that the original BD is so poorly color corrected, so underexposed, that I saw an extreme (in the numerical sense) luma curve as the only fix. Basically, the black levels are being brought down in only the lowest shades, while most of the shadows are in fact being lifted upwards. Being an 8-bit source (and yes, I tried to dither out some of these issues), I could only reasonably push the curve so fall before posterization occured.

I'm not going to say this is ideal, but I'm not apologizing for the shitty job Bandai did 10 years ago.
>>
Is Kou Uraki the most useless main protagonist ever?
>>
>>13994997
Oh well, at least I know I don't have to wait for v2s, I'll just watch with the brightness/contrast down, but it's very distracting at the default. I don't think it's quite a net gain as you do. If OZC wasn't taking so long I'd just grab the washed out stuff rather than have noticeable artifacts. Sure it makes the whole thing look kind of bad but at least it's uniform rather than having a lot of the ep look good but then out of nowhere to have horrifically bad swaths of artifacts stand out. I guess it's all in the mindset though.
