***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

Our next Group Build!

Field Repair

Basically what this means is that rather than the mobile suit being fresh out of a factory, it's quite the opposite. Whether it's trudging through dense jungles or dodging debris in asteroid belts, your mobile suit has seen some better days.
You've been out in the field for quite a long time now, nearly half a year of active duty in the front lines and your personal mobile suit's pretty banged up. What's worse is the fact that there isn't a maintenance bay within several thousand kilometers of your local area that's capable of making any major repairs. Your unit's engineering crew has resorted to patch work and jury-rigging to keep your machine operational. Stray fire might have crippled its legs and arms or otherwise dealt considerable damage to a mobile suit's systems meanwhile some units have simply lost bits of armor and panels to the elements and have been forced to patch weld metal sheets over the exposed inner workings.
In any case it's beaten to hell but somehow you and your team have somehow kept it chugging along and now command's ordered all units operating in your theatre to fall back to form a defensive line against the enemy offensive.

I made the mistake of playing sports and fucking offf.

I had to go through the worst moments of my life to finally find something I enjoyed. (gundam model)

now, I'm looking at a desolate highway, no gas in my tank and just trying to make it through.

Now are you guys just going to keep shitting on a person that wants to be like you or are you all just going to continue belittling someone who is just trying..

So I've yet another question for you folks. Once I'm done with all the wiring on my NG Freedom, I want to do some seam welding so it all looks clean. Would paint alone over the seams do the job, or would I need a different sort of filling agent to fill them in, then paint over? None of them are massive, but I want to be prepared just in case I want to fill things in.

About what you'd expect, pictured here in Toriko's review of the wildly miscoloured Yuu Brain version.

I think the shoulders are too wide thanks to the connector pegs used but other than that it's okay. Articulation is about what you'd expect from the time, but plastic on plastic joints mean it's creaky as shit. The feet are a hassle to get to stand flat.

The Yuu Brain version was P-Bandai so there's no way to get it in the first place, the cream on Hime Brain looks fine.

I bought mine with the intention of painting it in Yuu Brain colours anyway.

Also, it doesn't have a hole for an action base, so you're going to have to either drill one or buy one of those Figma stands or whatever they are that Toriko uses to hold it up around the waist instead.

I want to get the MG FAUC kit, and I already have the MG Unicorn kit.

I want the green psychoframe Unicorn body to be plain, like in the picture. The extra armaments and such I want to put on the red psychoframe original Unicorn kit. But, it will still leave me short two red psychoframe shields.

Are there any cheaper options to get another two shields, or am I stuck needing to buy that special edition FAUC kit with the red psychoframe?

SRW fans suffering. Koto constantly fucks us by not re-releasing old kits as often as they should and only making a new model every year or so. I don't even care that they gouge me on the prices, in fact I think they are quite fair for the amount of detail and engineering that goes into making complex robits.

I just want the chokijin so badly.
>>
>>13920217
salty because people attack things without providing any constructive feedback.
Its typically from people who don't do any modeling and just look at world class models online and don't understand or respect the process. You don't make an oscar winning film your first try.

Come to think of it why haven't we gotten any RDs of SRW stuff anyways? I know the SRCs for the Alt/Weiss weren't that great sellers from what I hear but that was early in the line's life. I'm pretty sure people would buy an RD Gespenst.

Hey, this is probably going to sounds like a random question, but does anyone here know if the various sound effects used in the original Gundam show are legal for use? They're all sort of iconic to the show, but I know I've heard dozens of Gundam sound effects in other shows and games plenty of times. It makes me wonder if they're public domain.
>>
>>13920489
its super bad for you. I wouldn't recommend it.
>>
>>13920177
Honestly I can't really judge the paint job, as I think your camera might be fucking with how it actually looks.

I can judge the pose however and it looks wonky as hell. Like the Zaku is trying to break its back and touch its horn to its right heel. Not a natural pose in any way, even if it was stumbling.
The way it holds its weapons is unusual as well. Not sure what's going on there.

Like the other anon said, finer sand needed.
MORE sand/elevation too. Beaches aren't normally that even.
Also don't place the craters at the corners, and don't make them of equal size. Makes the whole scene look static.

Definitely look into some tutorials on model beaches and craters.
As a first try though, I'd give you a pat on the back. And then I'd throw the whole thing in the bin and tell you to do better.
>>
>>13920556

But, I'll bite, and I'll even be civil with you over this.

A lot of the guys here are super pretentious pricks, don't let them get you down. They're mostly all shut-ins who measure their self-worth in the amount of bad cartoons they've watched and how many plastic dolls they've slaved over.

That being said, your model has some issues that you should be made aware of if you're actually committed to improving your modelling skills. The first, and biggest skill you need to work on is like this guy stated >>13919559.

Learning how to work with properly thinned paints is the first thing you should learn when attempting a build like this. The better you get at it, the more things you'll be able to do. How to achieve this is already in the guide, so read it. If you want something more in-depth, then there's a ton of other guides on the 'net dedicated solely to paints, thinners, and preferred application methods. The only way you'll get better at it though is with practice. Use your zaku as a reference for the ways in which you got it wrong.

Next, your paint looks like it was brushed on, if so, then you need to learn some more specialty techniques for minimizing your brush strokes. Again, there are multiple guides that cover this, but one of my preferred methods is using a very light polishing wheel to buff the paint, but be warned I've never tried this with gunpla, so I can't attest to it's results. It's worked really well for me on car and tank models though in the days before I could afford a good airbrush.

After that, you need to be familiar with puttying up seams. Now this is a process that you need to undertake before you move on to painting, so I'll leave it up to you to decide if it's something you want to pursue.

Other than that, you seem to have a decent grasp of what you're doing.

Keep at it, and don't let the jerks keep you from enjoying it.

Anon, that post was bait. The original image was posted a while ago and shitposters repost it to trigger /gpg/ and farm for (You)s.
>>
>>13919567

First of all, grow up. Learn to shake off shitposters and learn to accept constructive criticism

Your color scheme is good, i by the looks of it you know the basics of weathering. Listen to your fellow /m/, just thin your fucking paint!

Additionally, see that ugly ass seam on forearm and legs? Just learn to shut it up (its really easy), before painting the kit

And finally, learn how to pose a model, completed or not. A good pose (plus a good lighting for the camera) will bring out the "life" on your model.
>>
Okay so serious question posed to everyone in the thread: How much does paint fix your kit?

If you seam weld and it looks a little gross, will it be fine?
Stress marks?
How wonderful is the world of paint?
>>
>>13921407
paint it with a primer and it will be gone :^)
>>
>>13921117
Is that the MG?

>>
>>13921407
>How much does paint fix your kit?

You gotta sand that shit until it's gone. Filler and primer can fix scratches, but not actual damage.

>stress mark
Discolourations should be gone.
>>
Alright, I'mma do a serious kit for the first time. I've bothered to sand and line before, but never paint or remove seam welds.

I've seen techniques of putting everything on alligator clip sticks and painting them from there, but it gives me the impression that it's an ass (also to assemble later) for my current circumstances (very, very small work space). As well, I have no idea how you remove seam lines from there if you already painted the model?

Does this plan work out reasonably well?
1. Assemble parts
2. Cover seam lines (I'll be using Testor's Clear Coat) and sand smooth after drying
3. Put everything on blu-tack and sticks, and prime/sand/paint/clearcoat/line/clearcoat from there (after masking polycaps)
4. Reassemble

Is that how this works?

Painting adds a whole lot of considerations that I've never encountered and am scared that I'll fuck up and then I'll have wasted a kit.

I apologize. I mixed up the Testor's name (I had to go look up the proper name on amazon).

I'm using Testor's Clear Parts CEMENT. Not sure if that's what is usable though; it's what was recommended to me by some post on a gunpla forum.

do all your seam work and sanding before you touch any paints. you'll probobly need to come back and paint in some other colors or finer details on the glued-together sub-assemblies but thats what masking tape is for.

At least use liquid superglue plus talcum powder to close the seams. It should be a decent option with these kits that don't really need to be welded in the first place.

If you buy from Mandarake you can get a ton of kits cheap, great for practising on. Maybe try a SD before doing a HG, that's what they're there for.
>>
>>13922024
Most stores have SAL (slow but cheap with no tracking) and EMS (expensive but fast with tracking). Really you just want a store that will give you a shipping cost before you order.

HobbySearch (1999.co.jp/eng) will give you a shipping quote based on their internal calculations, so you get a good idea but it may be more or less expensive than what they quote.

Mandarake stores like SAHRA will give you a quote and they also have the option for DHL which may be better than EMS depending on how badly your country fucks you over with import fees.

AmiAmi is a popular one but I think they only give you a shipping quote after you've ordered and they really don't like people cancelling their orders.

Yeah...but what the heck is a Zaku 1 going to punch at the time it was used?
The only thing at the time it could punch were various spaceships and maybe a Federation tank here and there.

Unless it's a mid-late war Zaku I equipped with a knuckle shield and old-style machine gun, in which case the pilot is largely fucked.

I'm still picking up a 1/100 Grimgerde with plans to paint it in either 4A Alicia or White Glint colors.

your phone is probably working fine, guessing the issue is you. just turn on the flash if you can't figure out how to take a decent picture without out

If you're set on modifying it and giving it a new color scheme though, I think the Westenfluss one is pretty cool but the blue one has too much of a "generic MC gundam" look to me. I would prob do something along the lines of pic related. But it's you're kit after all, so go with whatever you think looks best. Good luck with your build, it would be cool to see some 1.5/Reborns around here since that doesn't seem like a kit too many people own or have done a custom of.

Most likely never, since even in a 1/144 scale it is fucking huge.
