There is a limit but it's some sort of absolutely ridiculously high one. I was having to restore all of Reiji and Xiaomu's SP with items multiple times to max their attack buff. That shit lets you kill bosses in one attack.

It's actually different in two ways in that regard: maps are much faster, but you can also repeat challenge stages to build up experience, money, and CP to upgrade your attacks and skills. In the first game you were stuck with whatever amount of experience you got through the campaign.
