***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

Our next Group Build!

Field Repair

Basically what this means is that rather than the mobile suit being fresh out of a factory, it's quite the opposite. Whether it's trudging through dense jungles or dodging debris in asteroid belts, your mobile suit has seen some better days.
You've been out in the field for quite a long time now, nearly half a year of active duty in the front lines and your personal mobile suit's pretty banged up. What's worse is the fact that there isn't a maintenance bay within several thousand kilometers of your local area that's capable of making any major repairs. Your unit's engineering crew has resorted to patch work and jury-rigging to keep your machine operational. Stray fire might have crippled its legs and arms or otherwise dealt considerable damage to a mobile suit's systems meanwhile some units have simply lost bits of armor and panels to the elements and have been forced to patch weld metal sheets over the exposed inner workings.
In any case it's beaten to hell but somehow you and your team have somehow kept it chugging along and now command's ordered all units operating in your theatre to fall back to form a defensive line against the enemy offensive.

Not the guy you're replying to, but I prefer the Stark Jegan to the vanilla Jegan. It's the addition of the front skirt that really makes it for me, since the vanilla Jegan just seems so empty in the middle section.

Jeganbros, mind telling me if this equipment set on the Jegan seems ok? I will be taking off the nubs on the missiles, just didn't have time yet. Also on the colors. Nobody responded when I posted previously and I'd like a second opinion please.
>>
>>13859813
Seems awfully top-heavy. Try attaching the missiles to the lower legs.
>>
>>13859836
The legs are really round though, wouldn't it stick out too much placing a square on it?
>>
>>13859813
I like it, though that might be because I always had a thing for gatling shields. Maybe try to find a bigger shield though? And personally, I'd ditch the cannons on the left arm or swap 'em for the Gouf Custom's triple barrel cannon. That's just my thoughts though.

The shoulder missile pods are a nice touch. Can never have too many missiles.

Colour scheme looks good. Will you top coat it with flatcote or glosscote?

>>13859846
File down a flat spot for the missile pods to attach? Or use different pods that aren't as large? Personally I think it's fine. Just say the pods are self discarding. They fire off their load and then detach, lightning the load overall.

Welcome to the Gunpla Club! Now you can shitpost with the rest of us.
>>
>>13859846
I don't think so. As for colors, the green looks good. What if you changed the yellow thrusters and missiles to red?
>>13859852
Right now he's using blue-tack to stick the missile pods on. If he does that, he'll have to drill some holes in the legs and make some pegs for the missiles to slide in. He'll have to split the legs open and reinforce the holes so they'll be more sturdy with a polycap secured inside with epoxy putty.
>>
>>13859852
>>13859864
This is Jegan anon. Basically I'll try and see what weapons I can swap the little shooter with, maybe melee. I like the gatling shield, and don't frankly have too many other shields to give it. The only other option would be the Jegan's own shield or Genoace 2 shield.

As for missile pods, I'm hesitant to totally alter the legs to make them fit. Not skilled at sculpting whatsoever, I can handle a pin vise well but I'm just now learning to seam weld and paint, much less reform things. Scary to destroy the whole leg, you get me? Lots of detail that's erased. So I'll check into that first by just mounting them on the legs how they are currently, and decide from there what to do.

Jegan anon trying the red color instead of yellow. And perhaps the missiles can be side skirts? They're square and blocky like that general part of the Jegan. I'd just drill some pegs into their "under" portion and slot that in.
>>
>>13859674
Gouf Custom is so damn sexy it really won't matter what you do with it.

Like I said, I think it's fine as is, the only thing that really bothers me is that the double barrel cannon just feels too underwhelming. I feel the triple barrel would fit better, being that it's an actual weapon with a mag housing and everything. Like what you got currently just looks like two barrels super glued to the forearm.
>>
>>13859993
I'm fine with changing that piece up, but I don't have a triple barrel since I don't own the Gouf Custom. Thoughts on this >>13859963?
>>
>>13860007
Judging by the size of the missile pods, I'd say they stand out too much attached to the side skirts like that. It would limit where you could put the arms, first. Like you couldn't do a standing at attention pose, or "waiting to be sortied" pose, as the hands wouldn't be able to rest at the side, they'd have to either be raised slightly forward or off to the side pods. They fit well on the shoulders. They don't interfere with posability there.

Again, these are just my thoughts on the subject. Individual results may vary.
>>
>>13860022
I see, just wanted to throw out the idea as skirts. Ok, so I'll see what I can do whenever I have time and update. Do you agree on the red color, should I go to orange or yellow again? Flat coating for the record.

I'm not him, but I've got an X. The foil is actually thick paper. You put it into the white parts of the cannon then you put some clear plastic over it and it looks really good. One down side though is the white part you put the foil inside of has a honey comb design in it, so when you sandwich the foil in there it can bend or distort. If I could go back I'd putty the inside up until it was a flat surface, then put the foil on.
>>
>>13860124
Could you also carefully cut the foil to fit inside the honeycomb panels?

Tools and paint.
Touch up those kits
>>
>>13860856
from the look of it, it's made from multiple MSG part from various set.
>>
>>13861354
Not him, but I wouldn't say painting is a requirement. Not everyone can afford all the tools required to paint, and not everyone has the same circumstances that would allow them to paint. Some people are fine with just cutting the parts out, working on the nubs, maybe panel lining and then assembling.
Am I going to deny that painting, even just a simple topcoat, can make a model look infinitely better? No, I won't, because it can.
It's the people like Snapfag-kun who don't even put the work in to work on nubs or lining make us other casual builders look bad. So if the person you replied to is content with his kits and just wants to build more, let him. Don't go all autist and say "Nuh uh do this or you're not doing it right!". And now I'm not the biggest proponent of the whole "gunpla is freedom" meme, but in the end this is a hobby where, outside of following the build manual (and even then you don't necessarily always have to) there is absolute freedom in what you can do with your kits. So, again, if he's fine with how his things look, even if it's not up to your standards, and he didn't ask about paint, why not actually reply to his question instead of replying like an autist with only a set amount of responses?
>>
>>13860312
You ought to use gray on white. Black usually looks bad on it.
>>
Hey, I just finished an MG Victory Gundam, and I'm having the hardest time with the leg to hip connection. I can't believe how poor it is for an MG. There's no click or anything. Like the whole leg will fall off if I so much as pick the kit up much less pose it. I tightened it a little with some cement but I'm still having tons of issues with it. Is there an actual fix for this outside of just "glue it into the position you want then never touch it"?

Is the Grimgerde's inner frame unique? Since the lore has it as the Graze's predecessor, I'm expecting the kit to share the frame, or use a slightly-retooled version.
>>
>>13861820
As someone who owns both the MG 2.0 and the RG Char's Zaku II, I'd say the MG 2.0 is better.
The RG has more surface detail, but posing the RG hands is a pain, while the MG 2.0 has my favourite hands to pose with out of any kit I've seen so far. Plus the RG has it's shoulders further from the torso creating a noticeable gap that's a bit off-putting.
The RG also has problems with skirt armour flying off when trying to pose that the MG doesn't seem to come across at all.
Most of the time I would agree that the RG's are the best variants, but not so much with the Zaku II as that's one of the first RG's before they really started to nail the line.

I believe the idea is that the Graze is supposed to be descended from the Grimgerde's Valkyria-type Frame. The Schawlbe Graze itself is a variant of the yet-unseen Prototype Graze rather than an off-shot of the Standard-Issue Graze. The show has established that technology has remained relatively stable throughout the 300 years following the end of the Calamity War. It seems like Gjallarhorn having a monopoly on Ahab Reactor and mobile suit production has caused technological innovation to stagnate by a lot. Hyakuri and Hyakuren are themselves just Calamity War-era designs retooled by Teiwaz and given 300-year old refurbished Ahab Reactors. lol

Well, I suppose that's a drawback of trying to cram a bunch of MG and PG style details, parts separation and gimmicks in a 1/144 scale kit; you end up with a lot of tiny ass parts that can easily fall off. The regular HG kits don't have this type of problem since you don't have as much parts, but at the cost of having not as much detail. It's inevitable, given the really small scale they have to work with.

What do you expect from kits marketed to casuals? >it's trivially easy to separate out the new EX Standard WZC's buster rifle.

The same applies to them as the gaps on the ex standards, just fill in with putty. They even made the gaps in a way that if you fill them you get the correct detail.

Meanwhile look at the enormous gap on the ex-standard. It's also no just a simple cut to separate them and they are not intended to be separated and have supports you will instead need to saw through. The gap also completely erases any detail and you will have to add it back in yourself even after puttying it.

And because of the stupid "Combine everything and put this crappy weapon on your HG!" gimmick that ex-standard are pushing it has big ugly pegs sticking out of it.

>>13863175
The old one has a shorter blade, but the gun and handle aren't super thin and the shield on the original doesn't stick out hilariously far.

Seriously, the line is a disappointment in everything but proportions and in some articulation. It happens, just move on.

Well, that was the major drawback at first, yeah, but recent RGs are pretty solid, have the inner frame detail, the surface detal, good colour separation, and nice proportions.
I have the PG Wing Zero and I would have much preferred to have gotten the RG. I think the biggest problems with the RGs is the 3 and 1 finger hands that aren't great for posing and also not great for holding weapons outside of sometimes beam sabers. Even then, though, they still usually come with additional hands to hold specific weapons.
It's just that the early RG formula wasn't quite perfected yet, maybe still not quite, but they've certainly gotten a lot better.

We could had a Origami Cyclone figure.

But the face(not the mask/helmet) feels extremely creepy. Maybe that's why it flop.

I don't know why dudes post images from reviews, and then not link the actual review.

a master like you can handle almost any kit I bet

Heavyarms is a pretty great kit, but make sure to get some silver or red paint, because all the missiles comes in an ugly grey.

Yea nah fucking stupid. Replace the whole shoulder pauldron, not some bonked panel that a new one probably wouldn't fit back in the corresponding cavity if it were warped and damaged, where it'd end up getting replaced altogether, proving my point. It's just random lines for more srsnotquiterealismic panels. And overall styling is overdone and faggy anyways.

This. It looks like some grim 90s comic book version of the Couf Custom. Gouf Custom is great because it manages to look intimidating enough without ten million panel lines and that fucking angry eyebrow monoeye.

Double X

DX

double the price, double the size

A MG should never be a starting point, go with the MK-II.

I'm starting the DX as in starting the build, not starting my first build
>>
>>13864471
he didn't say it was his starting point, just which one he should start. I think that's what he was saying
>>
>>13864478
Then make it clearer then, idiot.

I honestly don't know what to think of the Grimgerde. On one hand I like the head design and the monoeye, but what the fuck is up with that blue mouth camera? And those huge fucking shoulders and bulging cock plate? The arm shields with swords are cool, but the orange blades look tacky as fuck even though I'll paint them anyway.

Half this kit makes my dick hard but then I see something else that ruins it.
