I don't really have a preference, but since RX-78 set the standard, I guess vents.
Ventless should show up every once in a while, it's nice variety but shouldn't be the standard.

I love the RX-78 head design including the vent, but I hate how every new gundam seems to copy it after ZZ Gundam and all throughout the 90's and Seed and Destiny stuff. It's just so overused. I'd prefer them to try something else like the Zeta and 00 Gundam did. I liked seeing it on the Gaeon and the Neodu though because it felt like they were subverting it. The Gaeon has an LED there's no reason for it to even have vents.
The Turn A's mustache is probably my favourite though. I hate how gunpla builders keep giving him a regular faceplate.

It's not copying, like the white/red/blue color combo, it's a symbol of a gundam. You see a robot with V-fin or faceplate in an anime then you can tell "Yep, this thing is from Gundam".

Christ mate, I love the Hi-Nu but it is NOT that different from the RX-78-2. That's the main reason I love it, since it's clearly Amuro's suit.
If you really want to say something that defies the traditional gundam face (or pisses at it, whatever), you go with this one.
I like that vents are the standard, but some ventless helps keep things fresh.Ventless with another face underneath is the best, though.

It's actually another one of those weird things where SEED is really what made not having vents a normal thing but 00 gets credit for it.
The no vents look always struck me as more mysterious, serious, and elegant. But the vents added that iconic, powerful look to Gundams.

Well, 00 putting the focus on the ventless Gundam(s) probably helps it a lot. There's 4 of them, 7 if you count the Thrones, to one Strike/ one Freedom/ M1 Astray spam in the climax arc and no other vented Gundam-types to compete with in 00S1 apart from 0 Gundam in a handful of appearances.
