So why does IBO have fewer mechs exploding than in previous gundam series? You see a fuck ton more wreckage in IBO than in any gundam series so far.
>>
>>13813846
Because they don't even have money for the pink paint
>>
More to salvage? That's kind of a weak reason though.
>>
well theres no fights so of course no explosions.
>>
Solid ammunition and melee weapons would just tear stuff up instead of explode them, right?

...this artist has some issues, I tell you
>>
>>13813881
Yeah, it seems.
The pilots die before the mechs get damaged enough to explode it seems.

1. No beam weaponry. Traditionally, what makes shit explode in Gundam is beam weaponry hitting the magical reactors that allow mecha to exist in the first place, creating pretty pink explosions. There's also stuff like missiles and high-explosive rounds, little to none of which seem to be in use at the mobile suit level. It's almost all solid slugs and melee weapons so far.

2. Tekkadan is deliberately fighting to salvage. You see them spend quite a bit of time expositioning about that, they salvage the mobile suits that they defeat and then sell them in order to get revenue to support their families and send their younger siblings to school. True, surviving in the first place is more important than salvaging, and it's harder to fight to disable than to outright destroy, so that part may need a bit of explaining.

3. The shit in G-Tekketsu seems to be built to fucking last. The Barbatos and Gusion are Gundam frames that were built centuries ago, and still work perfectly fine, reactor and all. If they fought in the Calamity War way back then and survived, then I doubt that a few bullets would be enough to blow them up.

Every suit that isn't a Graze seems to be powered by a Calamity-war era reactor. The shoals? Filled with active ahab reactors. All those Man Rodis? Original ahab reactors.

Now, I want to see what happens when a reactor blows the fuck up. Is it like a fistful of nuclear weapons in Turn A? Is it the standard pink poof explosion with no discerning features? Will the explosion actually blow up the frame? Because right now I think we're due for a really big boom.

Partly, what >>13813871 said. There isn't a battle every episode, and what battles there are aren't always decisive (some are just a skirmish).

Past that, just seems to be a thematic choice. I don't think we've seen an Ahab reactor detonation as yet. It's been established that there's fuel usage, that the armor is crazy strong against beam weapons and has to be brute-forced by beating on it, and weapons are either conventional ballistics or giant slabs of metal to be swung around. And that there's a black market for salvage.

That's probably an intentional departure from the way things typically go, where every mech just explodes spectacularly no matter where it's hit. Which is kind of nice, because I've never understood how, short of detonating a fuel tank, a beam causes an entire forearm to explode rather than just leaving a molten hole. Or Unicorn's magnum that just misses a suit and still makes it go up in a fireball because 'grazed by megaparticles'.

>>13813947
We've been shown that Ahab Reactors are powerful enough to power entire military bases and spaceships. I'd say that when one lets go, the results may be quite catastrophic.
>>
>>13813947
It will probably be a plot point at the end when one reactor goes nova and brings a whole lot of suffering
>>
>>13813885
GrysVOK may be into pilot gore porn, but in one sense, he's merely delivering what most fans want to see happen in the show (at least, fans who hate certain female pilots in their mecha shows)
>>
>>13813947
The original ED shows what an Ahab looks like going off
>>
Not disagreeing, just having trouble remembering: What episode was it that they mentioned MSs being highly beam invulnerable?
>>
>>13813846
the MS in IBO are exponentially weaker than other series. They couldn't even cause an reactor explosion if they wanted to.
>>
>>13813846
Because they aren't using beam weapons.
>>
>>13813846
Modern MBT design aims to avert jack-in-the-box catastrophic kills, and mobile suits in IBO are ostensibly based on MBTs this time around.

That is to say, unless something goes tits up real badly, things will be incapacitated in a very mundane way. No big ass explosions for you, just heaps of wreckage.

>Or Unicorn's magnum that just misses a suit and still makes it go up in a fireball because 'grazed by megaparticles'.

There's air in space to carry the heat, it's the same reason Gundams make sounds in space.

I didn't have a problem with the Beam Magnum grazing a Geara Zulu fatally, I thought it was a really cool way to demonstrate its power. My problem was with the way Banagher fired it in atmosphere where it seemed like any other beam gun, when it really seemed like it should have had some serious heat effects on anything nearby if it was THAT powerful.

What, you mean the part where they fly around on rocket boosters or the part where they hit each other with giant clubs?

>>13814144

>what is reading comprehension
>>
>>13814140

I'm blindly guessing here but does the Beam Magnum have a power setting?

In episode 4 he fires a few shots into a concrete road as warning shots. Not only did the shots not annihilate the road, it didn't even leave a mark (if I'm remembering it right).
>>
>>13814150
I'm just asking what you're basing your claim on.

>>13814151
Yeah, I was thinking of that shot in particular, which should have left a giant smoking crater if it was at the same power setting that shot clean through the space rock in a previous episode. I remember thinking of it as inconsistent at the time, but I suppose there's no reason the Beam Magnum would HAVE to consume an entire power pack with each shot.
>>
>>13813846
This is one thing I've like about IBO for all its faults.
When ever the ms are shot down there's no explosion to evaporate everything, they just stop moving. I've really liked that aspect of it,had they made the series better it could've had a more eerie feel.
Like when they went into the shoal zone it would've been cool to show the Tekkedan ship moving slowly among many dead and deactivated mobile suits and ships, just somethings simple like that could've added more flesh to its world
>>
>>13814011
It looks like orphan tears
>>
>>13814175
>>13814151
My understanding was that the beam magnum was the rifle using up the entire e-pac, and that each the smaller e-pacs equalled one standard rifle shot. Basically, the beam magnum is like five shots in one.
>>
>>13814046
If you are talking about IBO they aren't. Beam tech either doesn't exist or isn't widely used. The armor is coated with a nano-laminate coating that dramatically reduces the efficacy of ranged projectiles. So bit ass blunt melee weapons are used.
