Fantasy mecha show brought to us with animation by Orange. Plus character designs from the artist of Ore, Twintail. First episode is out. Did you like it, /m/?
>>
>>13739344

This looks like IS but worse.

Someone inform me if otherwise.
>>
>>13739441
Lets be honest we are on /m/ here. Anything with females that isn't Macross or has Nana in the franchise is considered gay.
>>
What's the point of these mecha suits where your main body is completely vulnerable and exposed like that?

I know anime and especially mecha isn't supposed to be realistic, but a well-placed bullet or even a stray hit would absolutely destroy you.
>>
>lets ripoff IS
>but make it as generic and shit as we possible can
The only way they could make it even more generic is if the mech uses fire.
>character designs from the artist of Ore, Twintail
Is this supposed to be a good thing, really? His designs are generic as fuck.
>>
>>13739451
You are trying too hard to justify shit.

>lets ripoff IS

So, they're just making IS again.

Her designs are amazing.
It just seemed like a relevant point to bring up since it has a fanbase on /m/.

It didn't.

Waste of 13 or so minutes.

I like Orange CG, but only when it is purely for mecha. These half-exposed suits with CG people inside look terrible.
>>
>>13739623
They hand-draw them at closer distances though which is nice.
>>
>>13739441
It's mixed, but leans more towards better than IS, but just narrowly.

On one hand, the Lux was actually a mass-murderer who helped overthrow his own Imperial family, and is now working off his debts due to no one knowing it really was him who helped the rebellion.

On the other, he's more of a girly boy than Ichika ever was, and almost as paranoid about girls.

But then again, Lux actually ends up kissing a few girls and goes killer mode when one of them is threatened, while Ichika only pats girls heads and lusts over his older sister (to be fair, Chifuyu is hot).

The Bahamut girls quickly settle into a comfortable harem with minimal fighting, while the IS girls still fight over who gets to fuck Ichika.

Really, the best way to put this is it's basically Infinite Undefeated Rakudai Asterisk War the Amalgamation.

75% IS
15% Rakudai
10% Asterisk
>>
>>13739441
Better personalities in the Bahamut girls (though Char and Chifuyuu can't be beat); I mean, the main female isn't the typical smack you Tsundere that Houki was, and quickly warms up to the protag.

The childhood friend is totally chill with the MC seeing her almost naked. Functionally, the closest is Charlotte, who isn't exactly embarrassed with Ichika peeking.

The cool girl breaks down in her arc and ends up a little more possessive, but isn't as ridiculous as Laura.

Both do have sisters that secretly lust after their brother though. Except Bahamut's sister is younger, while IS' sister is older.

What the fuck does that even mean?

Think Master Asia, as he was collapsed in Domon's hands after their last fight.
>>
>>13739694
So the girls are boring as fuck with no personalities?
>>
>>13739714
No, I get the idea. But when it shows up in a harem, it comes off like Mahouka, some idiot who is secretly the strongest in the world despite being 'bad' at something trivial.
>>
>>13739344
I didn't hate it like I did IS.

I didn't bore of it like I did Asterisk.

All in all not too bad.
>>
>>13739441
Bahamut is a better LN than IS having read both to current translation. The main (first) girl is a tomboy mechanic instead of a neurotic (this is not houki's fault) tsundere in this, that's something I that alone bumps it over IS in my book.
>>
>>13739708
You want the truth?
He was undefeated in these armor tournaments, but his undefeated record comes from him only playing his matches for ties. His default armor he uses in public situations is also horribly nerfed to mimic his real armor. This lead to ugly performances where he never actually wins, but stays unbeaten in combat. It's really dumb being completely honest.

Personally, Bahamut's gals have more personality than the IS cast, but let's be fair, most all anime characters don't have that much personality in the first place; fitting into certain stereotypical archetypes and rarely ever changing unless plot demands it.

The Academy girls aren't blindly lusting after Lux's cock, and some of the supporting girls actually get to show off; namely the supporting trio. In IS, we still haven't seen Pika-tan or the other supporting girls do squat, even in the LN.

Lisha isn't a one-dimensional tsundere like Houki who's constantly resisting her growing feelings. She quickly accepts Lux's skills, and also is a mechanic who fixed MC's armor, as well as kitbashes her own experimental one, and begins working to integrate him with the Academy.

Krulcifer tries to play it cool, but she has issues. She even breaks down and despairs at one point. I won't say that that her issues make a big deal since it's dealt with early on (V2), but from what I've read, it's given her more personality than almost all the IS girls and their respective backgrounds.

Philphie is currently the only one with the least amount of personality, due to her laid-back and easygoing nature.

If anything, Bahamut's main girls are mostly elements of Charlotte troped into the usual harem roles. With the exception of Celestia, who's clearly a copy of Celia, with an extra does of man-hater personality.

>guy accidentally walking into girl taking a bath, in the dormitory, of all-girl academy
just wow
>>
>>13740916
He doesn't even accidentally walk in, he falls in. He was chasing a cat that stole a purse from some woman, all the way up to the rooftop. It just so happens that the one place that breaks is above the bathing area.

Yeah, semantics, but he didn't walk in. Sufficient difference, even if it was contrived that the structure happened to be weak right above the bath. Then again, maybe not. After all, if it was just wood above the bath, it may have developed rot from all that steam and humidity.
>>
>>13739451
I thought that was tailyellow for a moment
>>
Not sure how to feel about this.

The characters certainly seem less aggravating than in IS, and the fantasy aesthetics are cool, but it'll have to bring a hell of a lot more to the table than "at least it's better than IS" in order to hold any interest.

I suppose I'll keep watching and see if it delivers.
>>
>>13740939
To me it made a world of difference. If you're going to use an infernal cliché, at least have the decency to try doing it in an original way. Which they did, I think, at least I've never seen it done this way, and it was at least more pleasant than usual.

Well, granted, I'm not experienced enough with the genre (my taste isn't that shit and I'm not that much of a masochist) but the ones I read or watched usually had accidentally walking into a girl's bath in the forest or unwittingly walking somewhere they shouldn't.
>>
Is there a reason why all these LN battle harems literally, and I mean literally, start out the exact same? Like by the numbers first episode?
>>

There was a dark time when the only way to get anime was on VHS and you just watched whatever you could get your hands on.

LN writers (and web novel writers too) are pretty uncreative as a whole, speaking as an outsider looking in. It seems a lot of them get the idea that something is popular right now and they'll jump on and do the same thing wih a slight twist. See the thirty reincarnation stories going on right now, or the Fantasy worlds that conveniently have RPG controls. They pick and choose elements from other peoples works to write into their own, and they base it on what's easiest for them at the time. You get a bunch of LN's where you could end up with almost indistinguishable starts, because of this. Sometimes, I wonder if the works start as fanfics.

I'm going to end this on a werid not for us. In Saekano there is an off line in one episode where the protagonist says something along the lines of Cliches work because people love them. Profitably, for the LN industry people love these cookie cutter stories.
>>
>>13743740
I've been discussing this with my friends. LNs are even worse than anime or manga in terms of clichés and recycled plots. My reasoning is that the barriers to entry are exceptionally low (publication is probably much easier than getting a magazine to host your manga and nobody can just go out and make an anime) so you end up with multiple times the volume of shitty shit. Every season they use the most popular flavor-of-the-month throwaway LN to fill in the gaps if they don't have enough anime original moeshit harem fantasy action adventure where the MC "was just a normal guy until that day..." and uses his incredibly hax powers he got from gaming/general knowledge but he's in a different time so he is godlike/spirit of friendship/physics-defying unbreakable willpower that keeps him up after taking over 9000 headshots to fix the problem in his world. Waifufags fill up your viewership and really casual watchers might say "loljapan this is my first anime, so good XD" but it is forgotten in an instant. LNs have done much worse for Japan than the teen novel wave has done for the US, albeit in a smaller population.
>>
>>13743740
>See the thirty reincarnation stories going on right now, or the Fantasy worlds that conveniently have RPG controls.

I see this particular trend as a revival of something you used to see in older western fantasy literature where the spiriting away of an otherwise normal protagonist to the fantasy world via some contrivance (in this case a game becoming real or becoming trapped in a game) is used to give easy context to setting info dumps and provides a touchstone of familiarity to the reader.

I generally don't think it's a good technique, but it's used because it works. Some of the better writers and world builders can at least make something decent of it though.
>>
IS2 left me with scars on my mind. I don't know if I can give this show a chance.
>>
All those retards are there for waifushit and the story is just a way to "develop" and spend time with you're waifu.
See Phantomshit this season, all the retards hype it just because of the fapbait character and all these harems are only popular because they discuss which girl would you fuck. Shows without waifubait end up completely ignored.
>>
>>13743832
>>13743740
It's a business pursued by people who have some level of technical skills as writers, not an art.

>>13743857
It's more of a "Yankee in Arthur's court"-type situation.
>>
just wonder is IS started the whole High school Battle harem?
What started the reincarnation theme? I mean I would like to think it partly because of SAO and the initial web novels

get ready for another battle harem with power armors
>>
>>13744635
Well, Mazinger was also the first time that the pilotable super robot was actually the focus of the anime or manga series.

IS wasn't even the first at a school battle harem series. The odd thing though is that none of the School Battle Harem series that followed IS have performed better than mediocre (5k), and yet Japanese producers still bet on them over and over ever since IS, in spite of no one being able to make something that sells better than mediocre out of the concept.

>Lux accidentally trespasses in a female dormitory's bathing area, sees the kingdom's new princess Lisesharte naked, and incurs her wrath. Lisesharte then challenges Lux to a Drag-Ride duel.
I swear just last season there were like 3 haremshit shows with the EXACT same first episode description. Are the writers really just that lazy? Let me guess, the MC is also considered the worst at the combat highschool but he's secretly the best.

This level of copypasta is new to me. There are hundreds of DB clones, but I'm pretty sure no other one starts by the MC getting run over by a girl who's looking for a magical ball his grandfather left him, then having to rescue her from a pteranodon.
>>
>>13747811
To be fair, that's a much more specific description than "guy sees girl naked, gets challenged to duel."
>>
>>13747817
You're right. The same level of specificity would be something like this:

>the MC _________ gets run over by _________ while driving her _________. She is looking for the _________ his ________ left him, and then later MC has to rescue her from a ________.

Even if you allow the blanks to be filled by anything, I still think you'd be hard pressed to find another shonen first episode that hits all the marks.
