Yeah, but they didnt change their characters completely. Takumi only had a non canon development in Heisei vs Showa that made no sense when compared to the show, and KR4 just made sure Faiz's finale happened for good.

Honestly, I think giving him more of a cohesive narrative is the way to go. So often he just pops up and they barely have him do anything other than nod at the new guys, or exclaim about Shocker.
He can be a single-minded crusader of justice, a lone Rider wandering the world to punch and kick the shit out of people. Do that whole A-Team or Knight Rider street-level hero sort of thing. But he just needs an actual goddamn story behind it, something to update from from his past exploits.

Treat him like Decade. Have him be this powerhouse that can go toe-to-toe with anything on raw JUSTICE, but have him be an actual person while he does it. Give him a new actor, play it as Hongo's son if they need to, but have them actually interact out of suit, have a single philosophy of what Riders are and where they come from, rather than just being a costume that shows up every crossover, has a fight scene or two, and then steps aside to gawk at the newest guy.

We all called it months ago that Rider 3 was going to herald this new Showa wave, now we have Rider 4, Great Leader now directly fucking around with Heisei Riders (Takumi) a remake of Rider 1, NEW Shocker villains, who knows what else they'll do next. They're trying to smash the two eras together in the most desperate way now.
