That's rather odd. I've got about six episodes left, but I'm struggling to finish it. It felt a lot more like a silly adventure story in the beginning, and I much preferred that to the tired space war shit going on now. I've seen far too much of that to appreciate it, even coming from Tomino.

Does anyone know if there are scans/translations of this book available? It's pretty cool, it goes through the more popular mecha shows from the 80s, has pages with all the suits on them as well as blurbs about the shows, and six interviews. I picked up a copy when I was in Tokyo in 2014, it has interviews with Kenji Uchida, Shinji Takayama, Shigeru Morita, Takao Yotsuji, Takashi Imanishi, and Hirokazu Hiramatsu, but my nihongo isn't good enough to read them yet. When ADV brought over The Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Kikou Souseiki (Armored Genesis Book)/Genesis Climber MOSPEADA, and The Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross over to America with Tatsunoko and Harmony Gold's permission, how come their release of Macross had the original credits untranslated with the English credits being a black screen with white letters, wherein MOSPEADA's and Southern Cross' replaces the Japanese with English in their respective ending credits?

- Wataru - The Never Ending Tale of Time had only one Mashin-esque monster but no actual robots
- Ryu Knight - Adeu's Legend FINAL had no mecha content
- God Mars - The Untold Legend at 17 focused mostly on Marg so God Mars only appeared in camera footage and very briefly near the end
- Tri Chargers or any Noza mechs are nowhere to be seen in Zillion - Burning Night
- IIRC Sonic Soldier Borgman Lover's Rain only had the power armors in the last minute

In addition to these, Lightning Trap: Leina & Laika has about zero mecha content and focuses on foiling a hijacking attempt. Furthermore, Leina is the only thing it has that's related to the Machine Robo franchise (despite ironically being the only part of it with proper subs as a whole).

What are your favorite 70's anime? Because I've watched quite a few and the only great one was 0079, Zambot was good but not great, Getter was stupid compared to the manga, and the rest I saw were just extremely simple and ugly in plot and designs.

Combattler V would have been better as a 26 episode series.
The first major arcs overall story was interesting and gave out pieces as it went on before drawing to a satisfying conclusion. The second half...I can forgive a lot of things but the god damn kids that were introduced were obnoxious as shit.
The sequel was a better show.

I haven't watched too many series from the 70s, but I like most of them. Mazinger and Getter definitely show their age, but I like some of the things they did (if nothing else, having a Getter series where 3 gets decent focus is always a novelty enough), Zambot was good, 0079 was good, Daitarn's pretty good, and I'm watching Daltanius as it gets subbed and that's pretty good. Ga Keen and Ginguiser... they're SILLY, definitely.

Not really. Most 70s shows were pretty episodic, the exceptions are the ones that prove the rule (0079 Gundam was the least and even it had MotW shenanigans, the Robot Romance Series have continual plotlines but are pretty episodic, Zambot's ok, Daitarn and Raideen are mostly episodic.)
What makes Zambot's latter half stand out, I suppose, is that since it's a 23 episode show but still goes through an ending arc, the ending arc takes up a lot more of the runtime.

The V Brothers only share aesthetics and the five-man team, yeah. The other two Romance shows don't even have that.
As for Daimos, the bad news is the only way to see the show fully is via a Filipino dub that's in small resolution VHS-quality. The good news is that Shidoni might work on it again: http://z8.invisionfree.com/mSubs/index.php?showtopic=498&st=100.
On a side note, there are crossover manga by Hasegawa uniting all of those series into one universe (with new upgrades), but no one translated them yet.

To elaborate, the episode in question has an insanely stupid plot involving Akira not telling his friends about being blinded by the MOTW, so they wouldn't worry. Since the episode was relevant to the series progression, Starseeker refused to sub it for two years.

The resolution is a bit too high for any MSX without an additional graphic adapter, but the 2 color palette is a good choice, knowing that even if the background can have more colors than what the PC-8801 could display (15 colors), the color-attribute limitation (2 colors per 8 pixel lines) would probably make it hard to add more details to the picture (though displaying huge chunk of colors could have been an alternative too).
But it could be pretty fun to make a real MSX-like conversion.

Don't get me wrong, I love it - but when I think of BGC I recall the blade runner atmosphere, Priss singing, motorcycles, jump suits, and vaguely humanoid boomers, but not really very much in the way of robots or mecha content.
