I wonder what plot points they are going to keep up and which ones they are going to resolve.
So far the pacing has been pretty good and I refuse to believe they are going to totally wreck it here at the end.
Personally I think the series will just resolve the immediate threat of the Raison/Vagrant and leave the communication with Altair/Hester up for a movie.
I'm going to miss these threads though.

Finished my rewatch of DA and moved through the first season of Exodus.
Two things I noted
1. Maya actually thanks Soushi in episode 2.
2. When speaking to Orihime, Seri's dad made a discovery that now means a lot more. Every Mir on Earth is searching for a means to survive Altair coming. That's what ultimately triggered the Island's Mir evolution and Orihime made it clear in the late episodes of Exodus that even non-hostile Mirs can't coexist without trying to eat each other.
Which means Altair as a baseline for coming to earth is going to try and eat every other Mir it finds. The Azazel Types motivation while also hatred, is pretty clearly also rooted in being prepared to save themselves from getting eaten by Altair.
Also just a train of thought, but since so many NUN pilots have Kazuki's DNA shot into them, now that he's a magic Festum he might be able to pull some Gregory level shit on them.

Yeah I remember that scene from my rewatch last week. It's over before you know it and it's pretty early on in Exodus, but in hindsight it explains the motivation of the Mir

The Azazel Types were never really "working together" Vagrant might have fed the others info but that was always for it's own purposes and they'd fuck each other over if given the chance.
Walker only kept chasing the Island because Emery led him to it and Walker decided that eating them would make it strong enough to win.
Aviator ate Roadrunner because he saw his chance for a power boost, which when Vagrant had the same chance, he did to Walker and Crawler.
Even Vagrant's current assault is likely more out of "I want those fuckers powers and I don't want those fuckers someone getting Altair for themselves" than blind non-calculated hatred for all humans.
Vagrant probably doesn't even want to TRY and communicate with Altair. He just wants to overpower it.

He was the Atlantis core, yeah, but only ended up similar to Idun by coincidence.
Idun just happened to assimilate Avalon's core and end up as a Master-type like he did, until learning HATRED from Yukie. The Atlantis core was still itself, but gathered the hatred from everyone on Atlantis being murdered by the NUN, before also gaining Festum powers by being plugged into Vagrant.
They're obviously meant to be parallels, but the two have very different circumstances.

Mitsuhiro had programming by Prometheus, and Ai wasn't the real her, but Billy actually turned against them, even after knowing what kind of shit his brother did. There wasn't enough shown of his relationship with Dustin to make it that believable.

That was a bit too rushed for my liking. We didn't even get the epic Festum showdown that was in the ED of previous episodes.
But I guess they didn't want to tell it all in a Death and Rebirth movie pair. Which should have been appropriate.
Either way, I'm guessing the movie will timeskip about 10 years or so, with Soushi speed-aging back to his old self but with new memories, while Miwa and Misao become mates. I'd assume some of the surviving couples would also become parents during this time, or at least, Sakura, as she's practically reached her limit alongside Kenji.
Raison is clearly set up to be the big bad, but I do hope Maya ends up claiming it and mastering it.
I also wonder if Burns will make a final appearance alongside any surviving Burns Faction NUNs members alongside Raison, and if Hester will surprise us yet again and personally put an end to Burns herself.And I wonder if we'll ever find out if Hester and Maya are really related with the way she's practically spoiling Maya in a rich, snooty grandmother sort of way.

Alright anons I finally watched it. I'm glad that my predictive powers proved right this week and that Seri didn't die. The series has ended on a bittersweet note yet there is (once again) hope.
I'm convinced that they are not going to let it end like this though. There are too many things still left unfinished (and this ending creates some new points that need to be adressed) that it's practicly screaming "A MOVIE WILL COME AND ANSWER EVERYTHING".

Next to Kazuki, Maya's the only other one who stands a chance of extended piloting, as she was also the ideal pilot, rivaling Kazuki in some cases. Heck, even Hester was obsessed with Maya to pilot Raison, and didn't care about any other Island pilot, specifically ordering that Maya be captured, rather than just any Island pilot. There's clearly something unique in Maya's DNA that made her the ideal pilot, whatever it is that her father did.

The conflict between Festum and Human hasn't resolved. Altair had to literally be sealed away at the cost of the island because Miwa is still too little to properly communicate with it. (Which in itself was a great fake out, we got told she couldn't half way into Season One but all assumed the growth spurt was all she needed, but Emery actually tells us she had to convince Ashoka that anymore growth might kill Miwa, which indicated that Ashoka probably wanted to age Miwa MORE)
Miwa and Misao's relationship needs fleshing out and Hester is still on her Nuke Crazy Party boat.
Hell, it hasn't even been explained WHY things would be worse if all the civilians from India had died. Miwa just said something bad would happen if none of them survived.
We've got loose ends. This isn't like DA. This is like HaE. There are clear things that still need to be addressed.

Not really. It left some plot threads but the conflict with the festum is over. All of Polaris' fragments are dead, and Altair is sealed away. It gave you a "life goes on" mini epilogue and all. I don't want it to end, but it screams "it's over."

Altair lands and lays dormant on D-Island with Orihime and Seri, probably waiting for Adult Core Soushi to talk with it.

No no. Raison would be the big bad, but it ends with Maya claiming it from Johnnyboy when the last of his Jonathan persona allows for the fatal blow.
And naturally, the Raison would be reactivated as the big bad in the first place due to shotacore wanting to try and convince Altair to cleanse the world while Miwa works to convince Altair to coexist.
Of course, Altair itself could be the big bad, with Seri instead momentarily being the big bad alongside it due to being put to sleep alongside Altair's core until Newbakihime 3.0 or 4.0 makes Seri remember. And in a twist, Seri instead evolves her own Altair-made Nothung-turned-Salvator.
More likely though, Raison and shotacore are definitely going to be the big bads, with Seri and Altair as unknown variables.

I just saw the episode and damn...I mean this was truly AOTY, I just can't even put my thoughts properly together right now, too many emotions were evoked this episode from Seri going sleeping beauty, to Orihime showing emotion and Billy's fall from grace. The whole Soushi thing too was strange though but I guess it must be connected to his Festum status right? but then why wasn't he reborn as a child when Misao brought him back in the movie?
I loved it's ending though,it's open enough for you to get the gist of how the characters will live on but also left potential space for a sequels movie,ova or series. Trying to assimilate each other seems to be the default state. Orihime said that Ashoka couldn't stay on Tatsumiya because Ahsoka and Tatsumiya would try to assimilate each other, which is also backed up by Floater trying to assimilate Tatsumiya's Mir in H&E, perhaps by Misao trying to eat Miwa, by Aviator eating Roadrunner, and by Vagrant eating Walker.
The way things are is only temporary. Maybe Mir will be able to coexist once a person who can talk to Altair shows up.

Not ruined, but not the perfect Christmas roast I expected along with all the Fafner toys under the tree.
It delivered enough to be an ending and standalone was still a good episode (Love the call back where Nicht bashes Raison up into the sky), but didn't quite hit the perfect 10/10 it had the potential to be.
Also the epilogue would've worked better/funnier if it was Kazuki and Maya raising kid Soushi.
The whole second half of the episode definitely makes it look like there could be more to it, but I don't see material for a whole movie. Maybe a short manga or event a one-shot.
I really don't know if this will happen. The end felt a bit more conclusive than DA and H&E but I'd guess they would make it more obvious if Exodus was really supposed to be the end of it. If anything, Dead or Alive calling back to previous installments could be an indication that there will be no more Fafner anime, but manga/novels aren't out of the question.

Because Soushi didn't die to begin with in DA, Idun tried to take Soushi with him but Misao protected Soushi's existence from fading away into the Festum hivemind. His individuality in general came about because of Tsubaki and Soushi's interference with the collective and also the shattering of Polaris.

Bringing Koyo back felt so poorly handled. It was hype the first episode back and the ED showing his Einjerhar with the other three fighting hoards of Festum, but that ended up no where. He had no interaction with Kazuki nor much with ANYONE, aside from saying he'd protect people or save people from drowning. The most we got out of him was his interaction with Kurusu which was somewhat interesting.

I somewhat agree but not so much on the interaction stuff the 3 Festum's walk into bar scene was pure comedy gold.
What I disliked is there was little to no sense in bringing back Kouyou considering he was reduced to a core in H&E. Even if he did warp away to safety in time in the movie, it was so hard to make out plus with absolutely no one commenting on it far as most viewers were concerned he was dead for good.
In Exodus there is virtually no lead up, he just appears out of nowhere in a pinch after said movie where nobody even acknowledges what happened to him.

You forget that all 3 Alvis Islands managed to coexist for a time, before two of them fell for whatever reason. Granted, they all went their own separate ways in an attempt to buy time to develop proper Anti-Festum countermeasures, rather than actually knowing that the Mir fragments may attempt to consume the others.
Granted, it also helps that the Mir cores have since come to understand humanity, and Misao isn't trying to eat Ashoka's or D-Island's core. Instead, Misao just wants a "fragment" of the Island, in this case, Miwa, to claim/eat/merge with.

I'm just a tad disappointed. The episode did not feel like an ending to me and does not give me closure at all. I really hope that we'll atleast geta movie or ova to tie up all the loose ends.
As much as I liked this episode this was still a terrible ending. There is almost no closure at all (except for some some of the exodus story), but all in all it has set the whole "world" back more then it advanced it.
None of the characters have any actually closure and we are "promised" more will happen in a future generation, but that leaves us with nothing right now.
Dammit, I really hope we get a movie or something to end this. I refuse to believe that Fafner ends like this after Exodus was so well paced/worked out for 90% of its run.
Ending it like this makes DA and HaE's endings so much more satisfying. And thats the biggest problem with this. The ending does not satisfy me as a viewer. I can't fathom that that's what the creators want me to feel after watching this show.

He's not an ordinary baby but it's not exactly clear if it's some variant of the Master or Core types. Also I think I have a theory on what actually happened.
Festum have to renew themselves. That was the big thing that kept them from surviving in water. It might be that since Soushi is a Festum/Human hybrid that rather than die when he exhausted himself piloting Nicht, the Festum bits just renewed him the best way it could rather than have him just poof and shatter., which is probably what the price Kazuki has to pay for becoming a Festum hybrid, which is why it's not handed out just to everyone.
That rather than dying, when Kazuki finally exhausts himself he'll get BABY'd as well.
It's amazing, in hindsight because if this is true then they can time jump as far in the future as they want and still not lose Kazuki and Soushi for the fujo appeal.

This is pretty much what I'm assuming as well. Soushi was already a unique existence, and this is very much like the rebirth Kurusu had.
There's also the fact that his body seemingly isn't tied to a Mir, which could limit his options. There's no indication that he's hooked up to Bollearios, even though that's where it came from. Meanwhile Kazuki is tied to Tatsumiya's Mir, so maybe if he was reborn his mind could be pulled from the hivemind, but who really knows.

It's that the chain of command has a convenient excuse of not explaining orders because "If we give you too much information, if you get assimilated then the Festum can use that information against us"

The latest the timeskip will be be will have Soushi 2.0 in his late teens
The crux is Miwa has to get old enough to be able to communicate with Altair. Episode 10 of Season 1 tells us that Ashoka wanted to age Miwa more but Emery told it no. We have no context for "How Old" Miwa has to be.
Soushi 2.0 in his late teens gives us Sakura and Kenji's kid, Reo and Mimika's kid, and Sui and Rina's kid for friends/new generation of pilots.
Koyo, Misao, and Kazuki will be the only pilots still piloting because FESTUM, the other remaining pilots having plenty of valid reasons to be out if they're adults to make room for the new generation unless the time skip is really short.
Maya might be the only outlier who remains human but never stops piloting.

How about you chill the fuck out anon? The Exodus story may have been concluded but as for where all the characters stand and how their stories are "finished" it's not an ending.
Having a goal that has yet to be achieved (reclaiming tasumiyajima/speaking with Altaïr) is NOT an ending. Most of the characters come out of it without a conclusion to their "arch" or without reaching a next phase in their being and then in the last 5 minutes we get some more "stuff that will be resolved sometime in the future, but that we are not going to go into" like Seri supposedly becomming sleaping beauty and the baby Soushi.
From a narative point of view this is not how you end a story, it's how you set the story up for a follow up.
