I wrote in the fight in the final episode of the TV series as my answer. Gai savagely beating the crap out of Zonuda, desperately trying to save Mikoto, and his brave friends cheering him on from within the Gao Machines as they're literally broken apart with each blow GGG lands on the enemy, and then the reunion and rebirth in the end. More emotional than any death scene I've seen.
